Just stopped by for an appetizer and a couple drinks. Can't wait to come back for a full meal.

I truly hate that I have to write this, as this has always been one of my favorite places to eat. I stopped in during lunch to enjoy one of my go-to meals, but unfortunately, the experience was far from what I expected.

While waiting at the bar, a roach crawled onto the counter. I didn’t want to cause a scene, so I quietly alerted the bar staff, who cleaned it up after I had to kill it myself. After that, I completely lost my appetite and asked to close out my tab.

What disappointed me even more was that no discount or acknowledgment was offered for the inconvenience. When I asked if management had been notified, I was told they had—but nothing was done. I paid left a 15% tip and went about my day.

This was a clear example of poor customer service, and it’s unfortunate considering how much I’ve enjoyed this place in the past.

This will now be in the hands of the health department to handle.

Disappointing Experience — Lacking Basic Hospitality
I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to share this visit. From the moment we sat down, it was clear that customer service was not a priority here.

Our server was noticeably cold and unwelcoming, showing little to no effort to engage with us. There was no smile, no greeting beyond the bare minimum, and absolutely no warmth throughout the entire meal.

Even worse, we felt rushed. My drink was half finished and my daughter was still eating and our server asked if we would like our bill. It seemed like he couldn’t wait to turn our table over. It made for a very uncomfortable and hurried dining experience.

To top it off, we had to repeatedly ask for everything—water refills, condiments and to go box. Nothing was offered proactively, and it felt like we were inconveniencing the server every time we made a request.

Dining out should be relaxing and enjoyable, but this visit felt more like a chore. Needless to say, we won’t be returning.

Superica is a great resturant and a good take on tex-mex. Gives a new twist to what seems to be a pretty well known cuisine which is Tex-Mex. Here there is some neat traditional touches that give you a better feel for what Mexican food can be when paired with American elements. Can be a pricey, but offers some great meals and dishes. Serve two different salsas and also have a great margarita menu which is a great thing to pair with the meals. Service was decent, but can get busy on certain dates, but overall was really happy with the experience and have been here multiple times and have always had a good experience.

The good points about this place was our amazing waiting personal. Very attentive and full of vibrant personality. The atmosphere was also great. Some in our party had breakfast, others got something off the lunch menu. Unfortunately the food was the only thing that fell short at this place. The seasonings of the food just wasn’t there. I had to drench my meal in a complimentary sauce that was on the table just to add some flavor. Very unfortunate because the waiting staff was amazing, but this was my first and will be my last time going to this place. I want good food too.

Sure, if you want Tex Mex, this is the best place to go in the city. And they have great margaritas.

But the real story is when mi hijo and I were in Puerto Escondido. He loves Mexico and he loves the beach and he really loves turtles. Of course, he never goes anywhere without his plushie turtle clutched in his little arms. That’s who he took when we went to a turtle sanctuary in PE to release baby turtles into the ocean. Well, mi hijo named his turtle Tammy and named mine Tommy. And when we released them, Tammy was faster to the ocean than Tommy, but they both got there and I told mi hijo they’re probably dining in China right now!

He was so excited that day! I love seeing mi hijo with that kind of smile. Nope, no discipline needed, he was just a boy who was so happy with his stuffed turtle in his arms while cheering Tammy and Tommy onward!

What does all this have to do with Tex Mex and Superica?!? Well, they happen to have two margaritas named the Tammy Margarita and the Tommy Margarita.

You can imagine mi hijo’s eyes wide open when he saw that. Mi hijo loves a good taco, but his enthusiasm was so loud in the restaurant that I had to take him outside for a time out. Once I got him calmed down by the special thing I do for him, then we went back in and had a delicious meal. I ordered the Tommy, but of course mi hijo didn’t get to taste it even though he pouted when I didn’t let him.

I told him his face would freeze in that pout if he didn’t stop it!

Go Superica!

Superica has a great vibe and aesthetic—it’s definitely a cute spot. But unfortunately, the food and service didn’t quite match the atmosphere or the price tag.

We started with the flautas, which were delicious, and the Tacos Al Carbon were another standout. However, the Chicken Verde Enchiladas were underwhelming. I requested added veggies and only received potatoes—yet was still upcharged $3, which felt a bit excessive.

Service was a bit inattentive, and the overall experience felt average at best. We ended up spending nearly $90 for a meal that didn’t quite deliver.

In a city like Charlotte, where there are so many fantastic Mexican and Tex-Mex spots to choose from, the food really has to stand out—and unfortunately, Superica just didn’t hit the mark for us this time.
