Piper's Tavern at Lake Norman

I love the Galloway Hooker. The new owners have changed the name. I have been told by locals that food is much less desirable than it was before. With their recommendation. I will go for a drink, not to eat.

The food at Piper’s Tavern at Lake Norman is Excellent and the staff is Friendly and Fast! Love the new menu! I just had the best ‘Shrimp and Grits’ here and highly recommend the Reuben sandwich! Trivia on Thursday night was a great time! Thanks for a fun family night out! A+

Went to have dinner and drinks last night with my wife. They were a little busy so they said it would be 10 minutes to be seated. We found two seats at the bar so we sat there and ordered two glasses of Zinfandel. The bar tender who was nice told us she knew nothing about wine and that she had no idea what kind of wine they had. We said ok how about two Rum and Cokes. She smiled and said I can do that. After searching for 10 minutes she came back and said they had no rum at all. We went back to wine and told her to give us any red. She poured us two glasses with about half of what you should and admitted that she doesn't even work there and she's just helping out a friend. We then ordered a shrimp appetizer. 45 minutes later we asked could she check on it and she came back 5 minutes later with what looked like a bowl of soup with 6 shrimp in it. The taste was just average and so we decided to go somewhere else for an entree. We had been there many times when it was Galway and everything was great. The cook always came around to ask everyone how their food was and the drinks were great. Not sure what's going on with the new owners but looking around everyone seemed overwhelmed. Disappointing.

The manager stood on a chair to turn down the ceiling fan. Who does that? Love this place. Food was great, service was excellent. And? They have a hobbit door. A. Hobbit. Door.

Had a nice Thursday dinner with $5 draft Guinness. Fish and Chips and Bangers and Mash were delicious. The onion soup was good.. but VERY salty. We were pleasantly surprised to find it was trivia night. It was a fun evening!

Great Sunday Brunch. I wasn't sure how brunch would be at this place. But their chicken and waffles are fantastic. The way they bread the chicken with just enough spice, makes for an excellent compliment to the waffles. Prices are fair, and service was great considering the "shortage" in staff. I would definitely recommend this place.

We sat at the bar and there was only one bartender, he was so busy with waitress service than the people sat up at the bar. Took a while before he got to us. Could’ve used a second bartender, especially because it was quiz night.We ordered the brussel sprouts appetizer, that was a good size portion but the fish and chips was rubbish. The chips were about 1 inch long and scrappy. The fish was just ok. They did not have any draft ciders and the one in a bottle was an American cider.Such a shame because it could be a great pub.

Threw stars for the CHEFS - apart from that our service was horrible. We waited 20 minutes for our server to come and that was after I asked for service. We then waited almost 35 minutes for our drink orders and while they apologized for lack of service, nothing was really done and the service never improved. The food was good but the new ownership compared to Galway, all I can say is RIP to a quality restaurant in Cornelius. Also they no longer offer bottomless mimosas so basically the new owners ruined the only good brunch restaurant in Cornelius ??‍♀️ DONT waste your time here.

Food was okay. I felt the prices were high for what you get. The fried pickles were sliced thick and very little breading. The fish and chips were average. The spring rolls didn't have enough cornbeef. No Irish music playing it was all explict lyrics and club music

Great food, awesome atmosphere, the live music was nice too. My only complaint is some of the food was a bit less than hot as if it had been sitting out for a min. Honestly though, it was great and I would go again.

We were a long time customer and have many great meals. We revisited tonight and I had the corned beef which I rated as a 10 a year ago. It was horrible. Thick cut is fine bit mine was dried out, hard and crusty. Corned beef should be juicy, moist. Please go back to the old recipe. You used to be my go to place but this dish made me sad.

New owners / management are not honoring prior Galway Hooker gift cards without specific activation or last use receipts. Two cards, one clearly brand new, $100-$200 dollars down the drain. Take your time, energy, and money to somewhere they value their customers! Such a shame for what used to be a great community cornerstone pub. Won’t see me here again.

Fried fish was great and service too.The fries were just OK, not the flavour though, there were way too many 1-2 inch cuts, almost seemed like left over fries.Please, keep the food consistent.

We had brunch today and I do not recommend the eggs Benedict. The menu says ham but there was basically one piece of bacon that was cut in half there was no hollandaise sauce on top of it and the eggs were over cooked. They put grits as a side which we didn’t even ask for. The biscuits and chicken were not very good either. Chicken was very dry gravy had no flavor. And then our waitress on three multiple occasions confused or checks. My son ordered a bloody Mary double and they charged him full price for two bloody Mary’s. Very disappointing to see this wonderful restaurant go downhill. Will not be returning.

We had a party of 9 including 2 kids. Hostess was very accomodating in getting us seated. Katherine our waitress was great in serving and checking on us. All food was great and we all had a wonderful time. The special of the night was the filet and it was top quality and very tasty. Jennifer the manager was also very attentive in making sure all was right with our group.Piper's has a very nice atomosphere. We will be back.
