The food was lousy, the menu is not consistent! You never know what you will have to choose from.
I was there initially when they first opened and the menu was inviting. We went back two weeks later and it was completely different. I ordered a whole snapper, It came with some pureed cauliflower on the bottom which was horrible. No bread at this place is offered, No salads are offered with your meal or even as à la carte. No vegetables steamed or otherwise are available as a side. Way overpriced for the food offered. Our service was not any better than hey Carrabba's experience. I really had high hopes for this place needless to say I've had several friends that have been there as well and nobody has been satisfied in the least bit. It's really a shame because it could be a good restaurant. The owner had the right idea to begin with but then for some reason it went off the rails. Certainly don't take my word for it Go try it for yourself.

Drinks way to expensive for the size given.

This place feels and tastes like a slim cigarette’s wish to become a real person was granted.

It’s a dive bar on a lake that holds itself out as a fancier place because it has boat docks and serves blackened [seafood of your choice]. We ordered a menu printed item: pineapple and coconut bread pudding. What we were served was a chocolate and peanut bread pudding. When we asked about it we were told they changed the menu and left it at that. This was not the sole crux of the issues I have with this place, but just one example. They don’t care. They think they’re better than they are. And the food is more expensive than you’d expect for the service and food you get.

For the price you’d expect better customer service, cups that are not plastic, and an atmosphere that doesn’t make me feel like I entered the bar from the remake of Road House. I won’t be coming back. Not only because I just plain won’t, but also because a year from now when I think maybe it’s changed the restaurant will already be permanently closed and turned into something else.

It’s on the lake. Yippee. The food is bland at best. Not good. The service is awful. The prices are high. One and done. The 3.9 Google rating is quite generous. This place pretty much sucks.

Hello, Sailor is a coastal dream with food that hits like a sea breeze and service that makes you want to become a regular — and a huge part of that was thanks to Sally, who was absolutely amazing. From the moment we sat down, she made us feel like VIPs on a waterfront vacation, even though we were just here for dinner (and maybe a little escape from real life).

Now let’s talk oysters: WOW. Fresh, briny, and perfectly shucked — they tasted like they were plucked straight from the ocean with love and a tiny sprinkle of magic. If you’re even thinking about oysters, don’t hesitate. Just order them. Trust me.

Sally’s recommendations were spot-on, her timing was perfect, and her vibe was the right mix of warm, funny, and knowledgeable — like your cool friend who just happens to be a service industry all-star.

I’ll absolutely be back — for the oysters, the view, and definitely for Sally. Hello, Sailor? More like “Hello, new favorite spot.”

Service terrible at bar but better at table. Had to wait 25 minutes past reservation time. Watch 3 open tables while waiting. Had an Old Fashion and could not taste the bourbon Food was ok

There is not a way to contact online and when calling the phone just rings. I typically don’t leave negative reviews. I either had an allergy reaction, which I told the server the allergy or food poisoning and I cannot get in touch with the restaurant to communicate.

We rented a pontoon on Lake Norman and cruised over to Hello Sailor. Convenient courtesy dock right next to fuel pumps.
The food and drinks were fabulous!

Despite having reservations, we waited nearly an hour to be seated—twice being told we were forgotten. Once seated, it took 10–15 minutes to get water, and drinks were delayed even longer. Our daughter’s food came well before ours, and we had no silverware until after the meals arrived. The waiter was overwhelmed, and we had to flag down others just to get water or have the table cleared.

My kale salad was served in a tiny bowl with shrimp awkwardly piled on top, making it hard to eat. The white wine was warm, and the key lime cheesecake tasted like cleaning fluid—my daughter took one bite and left it. When I mentioned it, the server offered to get a manager to remove it from the bill, but I declined because I didn’t want a scene.

It’s clear the service staff is undertrained and overworked, and the food quality no longer matches the prices or expectations. We’re disappointed and hope the Kindreds are made aware.

This was our last time at Hello Sailor.
