My husband and I made reservations here for NYE. We arrived to a freezing dining room. We bundled up thinking it would warm up since no one on the staff acknowledged how cold it was. Though, as we were being seated a couple leaving looked at us and said “it only gets colder.” We ordered an appetizer and wine. Again no acknowledgment or apology from our waitress of how cold it was. The appetizer was very good but like warm - which was ok since it was a scallop dish. As we were trying to decide whether to hang in there and stay, I ordered the soup and my husband got the wings. My mistake. When the dining room isn't even 60 degrees on a winter's night, of course the soup won't be hot. At this point we are wearing our winter coats, zipped to the top, hats on and I had to wrap my scarf around my feet to warm them up. And noticing everyone around us doing the same - yet still no acknowledgement, apology, or explanation from staff. We decided nothing that could come out of the kitchen would be worth staying for - we were pretty miserable. We asked the waitress to bring our check and explained we were freezing and couldn't sit so uncomfortably any more. Finally, she disclosed that the heat wasn't working and hadn't been working since they arrived. I asked why they didn't text or call to let us know or why they didint feel it would be fair to acknowledge that when we arrived. She apologized and gave us a 20% discount on our food order. I understand the situation was not her fault - the owner or management should have been forthcoming of the situation so we could have either dressed more warmly or cancelled the reservation. The staff's attempt to gas light everyone in the restaurant by ignoring how cold it was made it even worse. The complete lack of concern over the comfort of the restaurant's patrons is pretty appalling, in my book. For this reason, I will never return to this restaurant.

Delicious appetizer and entrees, wonderful ambience, relaxing casual attire, excellent service, great menu options. Restaurant is a gem; definitely will be back during our next OBX vacation getaway!

We had an amazing experience at Broken Plate Kitchen! They stayed open late the night before Thanksgiving to accommodate our large family. The Christmas decorations were absolutely lovely and made the atmosphere feel festive and welcoming. Highly recommend the crab dip!

Had late lunch here , yesterday. This was my third time dining here. And the consistently the food and service have been great. Only concern is that you have to walk upstairs to gain access to the restaurant. Otherwise the staff is pleasant and convey their desire to see that your dining experience is a good one.

What a pleasant surprise when you walk in! Being situated above an arcade, you are literally taken aback when you enter and see how chic and elegant this atmosphere inside is.
Very tentative staff. Food was AMAZING for price, quality and quantity.
I can highly recommend the calamari, as well as the herbed chicken. The French fries were also superb.
While the menu disclosed there’s not substitutes to maintain the integrity of each dish, we had an allergy that required a substitute and they had no issues with replacing the items.
Everyone in our party was over the moon we came here and we all left with happy belly’s and big smiles on our faces from our meal and time spent there!
First time here and the service was great - the food was excellent!! We'll definitely be back!

On October 10, 2025 we hosted a rehearsal dinner for 80 people at this restaurant. There are no words to describe the amazing service from Amaloi Crossman and her wonderful staff. Everyone was so professional, accommodating and friendly to our guests. The bar staff was perfect and the chef cooked each meal to perfection, and every meal was hot when delivered. Knowing how important this event was to us, Amaloi decorated the venue to match the bride’s wedding colors and it was gorgeous! All of our guests commented on how wonderful the evening was. If you are looking for amazing food while in Corolla or hosting a special event that you know will be done the way you want it to be, look no further than the Broken Plate. My deepest thanks to Amaloi and staff 💗

Elegant decor and sophisticated ambience are surprisingly high end for such a casual, family-friendly beach dining experience. Food is just wonderful. I try to eat here during every visit, as it is one of the few year-round options in Corolla.
