Incredible food which far exceeded my expectations for a restaurant in a strip mall at the beach. Each small plate was exquisitely prepared with attention to fine detail and fresh local ingredients.
What an amazing gem in the outer banks!!! Highly recommend this place. The chef knows what he or she is doing! Get the asparagus soup!!! It lives up to its reputation. Will most definitely return!!
One of our OBX traditions. I understand some of the other criticisms in the reviews but the quality is top notch.

Really enjoy this place while in the area. Love the tapas concept and enjoying several different dishes. Great cocktail selection. The night we dined, 2 of us ordered the shrimp and lemon risotto. The only dish of the night that was a disappointment. Had to send it back the first time. The risotto was hard and not creamy. They redid the dish, but it too ended up bland and lifeless. No salt and pepper on the table, so we had to borrow a set from the serving station. That made it a bit better. Other dishes people enjoyed were the scallops, the lobster and pasta dish and the beef ragu. Soup special, asparagus and crab, was wonderful, as was the bread.
Everything about the restaurant is sophisticated, but antiquated in that they can't give individual or one-party checks. The group dining is responsible for dividing the check themselves. VERY old-school. Even small, basic restaurants can give individual checks. It really spoils the experience. I would have eaten more and had an extra drink if I wasn't worried about other people having to pay for it by dividing the check!! Pretty ridiculous, really...
I am retired and live full time in Corolla. I've dined at just about every restaurant in the north banks area. The Metropolis is hands down the best! Mark Anthony is the best and most creative Chef in this area. The small plate Tapas approach enables this creativity! His co-owner Matt is equally creative behind the bar. We lived in NVa for over 30 years and the Metropolis is the equal of any restaurant there or D.C. It's pricey but if you are a foodie wanting to put an exclamation mark on your OBX vacation, don't miss the Metropolis!
We had a really fun dinner with delicious food! The asparagus soup is always amazing! We had teens and various ages of adults in our group and everyone found something that they really liked. I love the variety and freshness!
My husband and I eat here every year when we're on vacation and we're never disappointed. Delicious as always, a nice offering of light and heavy tapas. This year I noticed there were also vegetarian and vegan options. The drink menu is expansive, but do yourself a favor and get a martini! There are so many different varieties. The atmosphere is very comfortable and typically not loud. It's an interesting space in an unexpected place! We hope to pull up a chair at Metropolis for many seasons to come!
This is our new favorite restaurant at the Outer Banks. The food is delicious, made to order and served hot. The menu is creative and offers great variety without being overwhelming. Half of our family prefers the seafood dishes and couldn’t say enough about the crabcakes, shrimp risotto, and lobster pasta. The vegetarian half of our family delighted in the veg/vegan menu, which ensures that everyone enjoys an excellent meal. And we can’t say enough about the cocktails, homemade focaccia and the soup of the day. But what sets it apart is the terrific atmosphere and excellent service. This has become our must-visit restaurant every year.

The food here is mostly OK. There was one dish that we really liked (the trumpet mushrooms). Everything else was either not good, or soso. They do not have a good understand of what it means to have a gluten allergy (brought crackers out on the cheese tray) and was SO expensive. One of the most expensive meals I’ve had in a long time for not great food. The ambience is nice but the room is an echo chamber which made it very difficult to talk to the people at my table.

We walked in and they said no because they were “too busy”. However, they had 3 tables in the building.

Food was almost all fantastic. Tried several small plates and several larger plates. Larger plates weren't any larger but were more substantive. The lemon risotto with shrimp was beyond incredible. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. Can't wait to return.
We frequent this place several times a year it's walking distance from our home and always enjoy the food even though smaller portions and pricey. We ordered a strawberry martini for $16.50 and was served a sweet red drink and when we mentioned there's hardly no alcohol in the martini the owner said “there's plenty you just don't taste it because it's so good”. This was not a martini it was more like a daiquiri. Not the first time either. Our second round of drinks was a glass of wine and he did give us a generous pour. This is a tapas and martini bar, the tapas size they have down the $16.50 martini was lacking along with an insulting response from owner.
Terrific delicious creative. Every portion was generous for tapas. Each dish was well prepared and presented. Service staff are top notch. Extensive craft cocktails were all very well done. We went bsck the next night.
