Our family had high hopes for North Banks. The reviews looked great, and we had walked by the restaurant the previous day and it smelled delicious.
We got there early to ensure all 7 of us would be able to get a table together. For appetizers, I got some raw oysters, which were delicious. My wife ordered the fried green tomatoes which were phenomenal. My dad ordered the bread basket for the table. This is where things start to go south…
My wife is very allergic to flax seed. Apparently the bread (which we were told the restaurant buys frozen in a bag) had flax seed in it. We ask our waitress to double check with the kitchen. Strangely, she says she doesn’t know and the staff in the kitchen likely wouldn’t either. My sister basically has to push her to go read the back of the packaging, which should have just been the waitress’s first thought.
Three of us ordered the grilled platter or whatever it was called which is $45 and comes with either tuna or salmon, a very small steak, a vegetable, and mashed potatoes. My which I ordered medium rare, is almost well done. I’m not surprised by this since the steak is so small and probably cooks really fast but still disappointing as it seemed like it had potential. The tuna was decent. This did not seem like a $45 value to me at all.
Sadly before I could finish my meal, I had to rush my wife home before her allergy reaction kicked in.
At a restaurant of this caliber, I would suggest they train their staff to handle allergies a bit better, and how to cook the small steaks properly.
I wouldn’t recommend against trying it, hopefully you will have better luck than we did.

North Banks is just consistently great, with a delicious and varied menu, solid bar, and super friendly staff. We love it here and it’s one of the few places we recommend to anyone visiting Corolla for the first time. Come expecting a wait during peak season, put your name on the list an hour or so before you want to eat, and kill time shopping in TimBuckII until your table is ready. It’ll be worth it.

I am local and have been coming to this place for years. Fresh and local sourced seafood. We come during summer, during the winter, does not matter; everything is always excellent and my family and friends have never once been disappointed! Best food in Corolla, service is great and I highly recommend to anyone. Our favorite restaurant, bar none!

The food was incredible. There aren't a lot of great places to eat on the island this is most definitely one of them. The shrimp and grits were perfect and so was my wife's peach halibut. The tuna bites were great and you can never go wrong with fresh oysters. Service was excellent at the bar

The restaurant has a nice and cool vibe to it! it’s definitely a nice change.
Food there was phenomenal. Best meal all week that we have been here in obx. the crab was to die for and oysters were heavenly. i had the halibut with asparagus and asian slaw. it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My dad had the chicken sandwich with fries and he said it was his favorite meal so far and had no complaints. the bread basket was a nice assortment of warm rolls with flavorful butters. they had very yummy specials and the gooey butter cake was melt in my mouth. the key lime pie was just average tbh. All the sauces they use to accompany the dishes really hit the spot.
Unfortunately the service was not that great which sucks because the food was amazing. other servers seemed dedicated and determined but our server although very kind and friendly she was just very slow. Once we were sat it took 15 minutes just to get drinks and refills were hard to ask for and took a while to arrive. she also forgot the bread we ordered and took it away still half full. She was just genuinely slow but that’s ok maybe she was having an off day.
I would definitely recommend and i will be back!

Excellent. Wonderful dinner. If you want to sit at the bar and love oysters, make sure you get to sit near Ian! He is extremely knowledgeable on oysters and great service!

Very good food! I got the yellowfin tuna (rare), which was great! My girlfriend got the salmon (well done), which the butter they used was a great touch. Only thing I wish they did differently was served the raw oysters on ice and had Tabasco come with the oyster because it took a little bit for the Tabasco to come out when I asked for it.
