I got the duck spring rolls to start, the flavor was amazing it was fried to a perfect crisp with tons of duck meat and flavor, my wife got the tomato soup which was packed with flavor she absolutely loved it!, my wife got the herb crusted veal chop which was cooked to perfect temperature, very tender yet strong crust on the outside, I got the Wellington, which was absolutely delicious, very juicy, and the outside had a perfect crunch with soft pastry like bread inside.

This is a great restaurant, but - in my opinion - it doesn't rate five stars for two reasons. The food and drinks are, frankly, expensive. Also, one of the dishes recommended by other reviewers and our server, shrimp and grits, tasted like one thing, the andouille sausage found throughout (the exception... two pieces of asparagus clearly added to the plate after the rest of the food).

One of the very best restaurants I have been to. Delightful staff and excellent food. Beef Wellington was the best. The pastry is spectacular. Alta really made it a perfect visit.

Cozy, water views, great menu and wine list. One of our 'go to' places.

Food was good. We sat at the bar on a Tuesday night thinking it would be too busy. But it was slow season so there was seating. Good seafood and service. Key lime pie was excellent.

Stopped by this evening to grab a drink and hors d’oeuvres with my husband and the hostess literally laughed in our face when we said we didn’t have a reservation. First time here so we didn’t know. Very off putting when you’re going into an establishment to spend your hard earned money and get laughed at. Won’t be back!

Our server, Elena, was wonderful and provided a thorough overview of menu, wine, and cocktails. She was attentive and careful with my food allergy. Amazing sunset, food, and service as always. Thank you!!

I've always heard great things about the Paper Canoe and wasn't disappointed. Excellent food, atmosphere and service. I highly recommend this establishment but make sure you make your reservation weeks ahead of time, especially during the summer season. You will love the Paper Canoe!

The Paper Canoe never disappoints. We dined there again October 23rd this year and the experience was extraordinary. Our server Leslie was accommodating and delightful. Every aspect of the meal was extraordinary: all the food and drink; the ambience and atmosphere; the service; and the enjoyment. We highly recommend. Reservations also highly recommended all year. Will definitely repeat!

Paper canoe was a bit pricey but it was worth it. I got the shrimp and they were huge.

Small restaurant right on the Sound. Fantastic sunset views. Located a bit North of downtown Duck, closer to the Sanderling. Plenty of parking. Reservations are a must even during the shoulder seasons….even in the bar area. Coastal cuisine with a bit of a French European flair. No shortcuts taken by the chef or the servers is what sets this place a part—even an edible straw in the lemonade mocktail! Portions are huge especially given the food quality.

Spent a few days at The Sanderling and Paper Canoe is right across the street. Ate there twice it was so good.
I had the fried oysters both times, so hot and fresh and crispy. Also tried the shrimp and grits. I’m always interested in trying a new version, and this one was outstanding. The large blackened shrimp were excellent, and the grits were creamy.
The scallops and risotto were also especially good.
Hostess was very accommodating and got us in the second night we went without a reservation, and with only a short wait. Well worth it!
I’m sure reservations are a must in the summer.
