The service at Annexe is absolutely superb. The staff is friendly, attentive, and really knows their stuff. Whether you’re there for a casual drink or a full meal, they make sure you feel taken care of without being overbearing.
Speaking of drinks, the cocktails are top-tier. Each one is expertly crafted with fresh ingredients and a lot of care. From classic concoctions to innovative new blends, Annexe definitely knows how to mix a drink that suits your taste. It's the kind of place where you can trust the bartender to surprise you with something new, and it’ll likely become your new favorite.
The only downside I’d mention is the broccoli — it was a bit greasy for my taste. It could definitely use a lighter touch, but that's a minor gripe in an otherwise stellar experience.
Overall, Annexe is definitely a spot I’ll return to for its unbeatable vibe, fantastic drinks, and outstanding service. Highly recommended if you're in the mood to unwind in style!

Cassie was our bartender tonight and she was so great! Personable, authentic, and truly cared equally about our experience and her employer. The charcuterie was totally yummy and paired beautifully with my Earl Grey martini. My love had the burger special and a great beer from Burial. Cool tiki vibe. Great date night getaway.

I had the absolute worst service! I have been a patron of Bar Virgile for many years. It is in my top 5 of best restaurants in Durham. My partner and I had the unfortunate luck of being seated in The Annexe as Bar Virgile was full. We witnessed people come in well after us and given immediate service while we waited and waited and waited. I was met with indifference when I asked for the status of my food order after waiting for 45 min. There was NO apology and no attempt to make our experience better. As a small business owner and long time resident in Durham, this felt personal.

Service was welcoming and accommodating of my desire to take in the venue's feng shui, snap a couple pictures, and curiosity of the bars history. Located in a cozy basement on a corner that hosts a few establishments under the same corporate umbrella, this spot is a must not skip!
We had the Steak Frites dinner and the Short Rib dinner. Both were cooked to perfection, with taste lacking in nothing. We came for the food and drinks, but were informed that the place turns into a little party vibe at 10pm.
We will return. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

We found this upscale tiki bar sort of by accident but really loved it. I have been very underwhelmed recently from bar experiences where the prices are high and the drinks are average. However, the bartenders make really great cocktails and the prices are on point. The music is at the right volume for conversation and the bar has an excellent vibe. Highly recommend it!

This place has it all: outstanding food; creative, delicious, reasonably priced cocktails and mocktails; friendly and attentive service; two turntables and/or a killer playlist. VIBE. Can’t wait to go back.
Parking: I believe the deck next door is free after 7:00pm like the others in Durham? Though, they will charge $5 I think when there’s a DPAC event on.

I've been here twice but unfortunately will not be returning.
Pros- The music can be pretty good most nights. The first time I went, they were playing hip hop and r&b music. The second time, it was a mix of house, edm, hip hop, and some trendy songs.
Cons - it's a pretty small space hard to get to the bar when it's full.
My biggest issue is that both times, some or all of the members in our group got very sick. I experienced it a lot worse this second time where we were all sick after only one drink. My sisters and I thought they tasted strange and had a very weird aftertaste. It was the same the first time around in regards to taste when I went with a friend of mine she was also extremely sick immediately after. My sisters could not finish their drinks bc they felt it tasted bad and wasn't sitting well. So I'm not sure what it is. If I had to guess, I'm assuming it is very low quality ingredients and low quality liquor. The drinks were pretty, but that's about it.
They were also pretty pricey, considering the low quality and horrible taste of the drinks. And we all felt very queasy immediately after.
The strange part is that bar Virgil upstairs is the opposite. I thought they were ran by the same people but maybe thats not the case, I dont know. The drinks are well made, and I've never had an issue up there. So maybe just stick to that area and hop downstairs just for the music, maybe ??♀️
Also it seemed like our bartender completely forgot about our order. we waited 15 mins for them. He started cleaning the bar and talking with other bartenders, then made eye contact with our group that was waiting and hurried to make our drinks at that point.

This was a great underground bar. Difficult to find ... even people standing outside didn't know that there was a bar down a flight of stairs.
