“I've been here twice since they opened. Got the vegetable samosas with the 2 chutneys and the butter chicken with garlic naan and everything has been SO good. Samosas hot and crisp out of the fryer. Chutneys and butter chicken on point. So glad a great Indian restaurant opened up in this little neighborhood of south Durham!”

“This is easily one of the best restaurants in Durham! My husband and I came here for date night and we had a great experience. We got there around 6:00 and didn't have to wait too long to be seated (they don't take reservations, fyi). We got the Combo B, which should be enough for 2-3 people. It was our first time here and the waitress was kind enough to explain everything. We couldn't finish all the food and we were so stuffed lol. We had to bring home the leftovers and actually got 2 more dinners out of it. I like going to places where I feel like I get my money's worth, and this restaurant is definitely in that list. Highly recommend it!”

My only complaint is that Cole had to split the hour between our group and another. While he did awesome. As for any sport of this nature...risk is inherent even with precautions. But I would take my kids”

Run solely by the incredibly sweet owners, it's a delightful fusion of Middle Eastern flavors with a French twist, reflecting the Algerian roots of the proprietors. As a Moroccan myself, I couldn't be happier stumbling upon this gem. The pastries not only look stunning but taste absolutely divine, offering a perfect blend of Middle Eastern and French influences.Though the spot may be a bit tucked away, it's well worth the hunt. Just a heads-up: Arrive early to ensure you snag your favorite pastries before they sell out in the afternoon. Trust me, this is one spot you won't want to miss out on!”
“I can't speak to the atmosphere as we had them cater lunch for our office - at our office. However, the FOOD was some of the best BBQ I have ever had - and I am not vegan! These folks are cooking up some real vegan magic as you truly would never guess that the "pulled pork" barbeque was vegan. The flavor, texture, aroma - just WOW. You've also got to try their gluten free cornbread, their collards, potato salad, and their magical slaw. Also, the communication with their catering coordinator was top notch. My team has been raving about this food for the past couple of days. Do NOT sleep on Pure Soul!Vegetarian options: Vegan! We ordered four things from the menu (salmon, a salad, and two appetizers) and all of them were prepared to perfection. If you have a meal at Vin Rouge, we feel confident that the quality of food you experience will confirm our judgment. Our greeting lady was very pleasant. Our waitress, Kate, provided excellent service and handled everything superbly from start to finish. Semih is an outstanding manager, very professional and polite. Haven’t had a schnitzel in forever and this was worth it. Portion sizes were good - quality and quantity. I also got the Paulaner beer. Perfect compliment, rich beer. I recommend this place.”
“This place was the first place we went to for drinks. It had a speakeasy vibe to it with the low lighting. Their menu had a few drinks to choose from so we ordered the Marg, PCN, Cold Days In the Sun, and Feelin' Emotions. The drinks came out fairly quickly. The Marg was not bad, the Cold Days In the Sun was good and the Feelin' Emotions was tasty. It definitely was something I could see others try out too. The amount was not too much so it was good. Good place for drinks if you're in the area.”

I've been working with Lexy Peterson to plan it. She and her GM were so easy and wonderful to work with! We had to make several changes, including last minute ones. It was a relief when they had no issues with accommodating our changes. I'm so thankful for the success of this event there! I know our company will be back for future events!”

The steaks were cooked perfectly and fantastic flavor. Three dsserts were shared between the 6 of us and it was just the right amount with how rich they were. The only more neutral observation was that my 32oz ribeye was slightly smaller than I expected yet the flavor made up for it. Would definitely come here again. Oh, the rolls and the jalapeño cilantro cream cheese that came out before appetizers was the best rolls I've ever had in a restaurant!”

“I ordered from Taco Ardiente through Uber eats while I was on night shift at a hospital. When I got my food, not only was it fresh and hot (not typical for deliveries for me) but the torta (barbacoa) was delicious. The barbacoa was so tender well flavored. I loved the burrito as well; however, my only complaint is that the ratio of meat to other topping felt a little skimped, also the steak that was in the burrito was not what I was hoping it would be. The portion was small and really under delivered as the protein in the burrito. I highly recommend barbacoa over the steak.”

“Local flavor and charm! I've eaten lunch here 3 or 4 times over the last 8 weeks. EVERYTHING I've eaten was fantastic (brisket, pulled bbq, chicken salad, green beans, mac-n-cheese, hushpuppies). The portions are gracious, and the service is very friendly and attentive. The dining room is small but has a lot of character/charm.”

The owners are very kind, fast responsive, super responsible, easy to understand, very generous and does absolutely amazingly tasty cakes ! The owner verified our pick up and had it ready in time! We ordered 2 tier Chocolate and strawberry birthday cake with decorations and it was delicious! It seems like a good balance between soft to eat and steady enough to transport cake! We eat it for 4 days and it was still good. Price wasn’t cheap but not the most expensive one either. One thing we know for next time is not to order fresh fruit filling because it is not fresh after one day, better jam filling instead or none. Thank you Sunflower bakery!”

Lots of customers were sitting, relaxing, chatting - waiting on their food. Be patient because it takes a while for your food to come out. They appear to be really busy on Saturdays; on this particular Saturday, they got so busy that the attendant announced that she wouldn't be taking anymore orders at the register, and everyone in line that wanted to order, would have to order on the kiosk. The attendant was courteous, and helpful.We ordered the red snapper, rice & peas, cabbage, jerk chicken, mac n cheese, beef patty, and spinach patty. They give you alot of food, enough to maybe eat twice. They offer a few vegetarian options, and they offer red snapper if you're looking for a pescaterian option.Vegetarian options: Angie's Jamaican Grill offers a few vegetarian items, and they have red snapper if you are pescaterian.”

My go to is their Italian ice or their ice cream cake slice. Everything is delicious, fresh, and creamy (if it’s supposed to be), plus the prices are great for what you get. They have exceptional service as well. There are ice cream shops literally everywhere, but they rarely go beyond “eh, it’s good ice cream.” This place sets and tops the bar, then raises it some more! “Vici Ristobar's offerings for the Triangle Restaurant Week are beautiful. The grouper and spinach were delicious, as was the cavitappi and Italian sausage. The tiramisu and canolli were light and a perfect finish. I also very much enjoyed the bread and the pear and gorgonzola salad.”

“i had a great time during lunch on my birthday yesterday & was pleased to not find an overabundance of ipa on tap!instead i discovered your amazing reserve beers (solera was a fave) i was also shown your solera barrel system behind the bar which may be the only beer aging system like it in the world. i wonder why this brewery is not on the cover of magazines & a must stop for international foodies & beer enthusiasts?i want to visit your brewery location sometime but for now i praise your decision for not making so many ipa's. i was impressed that your brewery has 2 cicerones (including 2nd level) & 1 more in the oven, hanot only is this the best beer i've had in the area since weeping radish, the food is amazing. the chef was outstandingly personable & explained that the reason the burrito beef melted in my mouth was that it was cooked in beer 16 hours, wow! the soft drinks were all fantastic natural flavours - it has been many years since i've had Birch Beer & possibly never on tap, but i also want to enjoy the ginger ale, orange vanilla & cream soda. the ice cream was made onsite & sourced from a local creamery. the lettuce comes from a small 2 acre farm.the only downside was the overwhelming music that intruded on conversation instead of being in the background where it belongsi plan to return soon, who can say no to free pinball on tuesdays?”

“Stopped here today for the first time by recommendation from the folks at Carrera Autohaus, Inc. after purchasing a car. When I tell you the BEST burger I’ve had, I mean it! I had the Classic burger with fries. I saw the burgers were doubles and thought no way I would be able to finish but I ate every single bite! The employees were friendly, efficient, and could be seen wiping down tables and straightening up throughout our dine-in experience despite how busy they were - so impressed! A brownie with bourbon caramel wrapped up our meal. Their menu had a few drinks to choose from so we ordered the Marg, PCN, Cold Days In the Sun, and Feelin' Emotions. The drinks came out fairly quickly. The Marg was not bad, the Cold Days In the Sun was good and the Feelin' Emotions was tasty. It definitely was something I could see others try out too. The amount was not too much so it was good. Good place for drinks if you're in the area.”

“The Velvet Hippo is a vibe in itself! I first went months ago and I haven’t stopped coming back! I love this spot and highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t yet! It’s spacious with an amazing outdoor area overlooking downtown Durham. The decor is incredible and one of a kind which only increases the welcoming yet groovy atmosphere! The drinks are always well thought out and balanced and the food is always delicious! Having said all that one of the biggest reasons I keep coming back to this rad women owned spot is it’s staff! They are all amazing! Especially Sarah! No matter how long my week might have been I know I can always come and immediately be cheered up by her infectious personality and friendly demeanor! She always has a smile on her face and never fails to entertain! Not to mention her A-plus skills behind the bar. She is one of my fav bartenders in the triangle! So do yourself a favor and put the Velvet Hippo on your itinerary for a night out in Durham! You won’t regret it!”

Only the birria was served with two tortillas, but the single tortilla-tacos held up, even with a liberal dose of the two salsas provided. My son had the pollo asado taco, and he rated it 4.5 out of 5 (he's 6 and he's never given something a 5/5, so this is an excellent rating for him). I had the plain quesadilla, because there aren't a lot of vegetarian options, but the acid/heat of the green salsa helped cut through the fat nicely. The horchata was nice and thick, and piña wasn't too sweet. Overall, I would be happy to return.”

The beers on tap were varied and there was a very interesting cranberry cider. I am always happy when there is an option that is not the boring, watery cider that I will not name because I am too polite. When I got my food, not only was it fresh and hot (not typical for deliveries for me) but the torta (barbacoa) was delicious. The barbacoa was so tender well flavored. I loved the burrito as well; however, my only complaint is that the ratio of meat to other topping felt a little skimped, also the steak that was in the burrito was not what I was hoping it would be. The portion was small and really under delivered as the protein in the burrito. I highly recommend barbacoa over the steak.”

“Takeout, they left the beef in the box, the vermiculite got soaked with beef blood. They should’ve put the meat in a plastic bag to prevent that, hope they do better next time! The tastes of BBH is not consistent, 1,2 years ago the BBH broth tasted very good, but this year the broth tastes different. Overall I like the place and will still stopping by but I hope they do better with the takeout order, no meat bloody got the vermicelli soaked.”

“Absolutely loved my first experience at the Chicken Hut! From walking in, to ordering, and to eating was nothing but a great time. I was warmly greeted by the staff as they told me the meats and sides they had available. I went with their fried chicken and I was told it would be about ten minutes, but I did not mind waiting. For my sides I got their greens and Mac and cheese. Their plates also include either a roll or hushpuppies; so I went with the hushpuppies. And I am so glad that I did!The hushpuppies were the major highlight of my plate. They were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. With the hot sauce added it made them pop even more. I quickly ate most of them before my meal was over. The fried chicken was also amazing. It was not overly salty or seasoned and had an amazing crunch. It comes out pipping hot, so I had to take my time with each bite, but it was so worth it.The greens were light and seasoned well. I like that they were not super soft and had a great texture and depth. I could literally just eat their greens and hushpuppies and be so happy!The only side that I thought could use some love was their Mac and cheese. I thought it could've had more seasoning and cheese. It was a little plain.I love that the Chicken Hut is still here serving great food for 65 years! Their love for the community shows in their stellar customer service, fun atomosphere (the music was a mix of 70s/80s rnb that made me not want to go back to work!), and their warmth! Lots of customers were sitting, relaxing, chatting - waiting on their food. Be patient because it takes a while for your food to come out. They appear to be really busy on Saturdays; on this particular Saturday, they got so busy that the attendant announced that she wouldn't be taking anymore orders at the register, and everyone in line that wanted to order, would have to order on the kiosk. The attendant was courteous, and helpful.We ordered the red snapper, rice & peas, cabbage, jerk chicken, mac n cheese, beef patty, and spinach patty. They give you alot of food, enough to maybe eat twice. They offer a few vegetarian options, and they offer red snapper if you're looking for a pescaterian option.Vegetarian options: Angie's Jamaican Grill offers a few vegetarian items, and they have red snapper if you are pescaterian.”

“This is easily one of the best restaurants in Durham! My husband and I came here for date night and we had a great experience. We got there around 6:00 and didn't have to wait too long to be seated (they don't take reservations, fyi). We got the Combo B, which should be enough for 2-3 people. It was our first time here and the waitress was kind enough to explain everything. We couldn't finish all the food and we were so stuffed lol. We had to bring home the leftovers and actually got 2 more dinners out of it. I like going to places where I feel like I get my money's worth, and this restaurant is definitely in that list. Highly recommend it!”
