“Local flavor and charm! I've eaten lunch here 3 or 4 times over the last 8 weeks. EVERYTHING I've eaten was fantastic (brisket, pulled bbq, chicken salad, green beans, mac-n-cheese, hushpuppies). The portions are gracious, and the service is very friendly and attentive. The dining room is small but has a lot of character/charm.“
“Thursday has a loaded fry special. I decided to give this spot a try because bbq was on the mind. I had loaded fries with the BBQ/Smoked Turkey. This was some amazing, juicy, tender and flavorful turkey. I promise to have some again. The fries were also very good, crispy and well seasoned. But the turkey was the star of the show. Portions sizes are huge and employees friendly when available. The location isn't a problem for me, but I could see some not wanting to travel to old east durham for food. The area is lack of most amenities that would draw traffic. (Gas, Shopping, Sights) Aside from I'd say 3 exceptional hidden gems for food the area lacks drawing power. Besides all of that Mike D's BBQ is top tier and hopefully gets the attention necessary to shine as the awards show they should and will.“
“I came here with my husband and we were really impressed by the food and the atmosphere! It's been a while since my visit, but I was honestly shocked that I hadn't had the chance to review it. We got the smoked brisket plate, the jambalaya, and the gumbo. I think the brisket plate was out favorite item, but the jambalaya was a close second!! We are excited to come back soon.“
“Lawrence is my favorite place to grab BBQ (seriously, the best brisket ever + the wings are amazing + sides that never disappoint) and I love bringing family and friends by when they are in town. In fact, my dad demanded we went 2x in a long weekend visit.Lawrence just released a breakfast menu and let me tell you!! 1000/10, I have been spoiled and will not be able to exist on regular breakfast in the future. Breakfast brisket?! Amazing biscuits?! Blueberry jalapeno jam?! It paired great with the blueberry biscuit + bacon + egg! And build your own sandwiches? Crisp potatoes with onions, jalapeños, and green onions?!Seriously. Go. You will not be disappointed. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I have YET to meet someone who didn’t love Lawrence.Parking: There is plenty of parking at Boxyard and for Lawrence!Kid-friendliness: I know first hand kids love the fries and its a fun outdoor atmosphere!“
“Nothing fancy, but dear lord it is one of the best around. Food is amazing and staff is even better. The pricing cannot be beat! An entree and two sides for $7-8, got you thinking this is some 1990s dinner pricing. And these portions are grandma portions. The kind of portion where you told grandma "I'm not hungry", but she loads up your plate anyways and you end up taking some home because there's just too much on the plate. A true gem in the area.“
“Grabbed some wings and dumplings for lunch. The wings are spectacular. Perfectly crisp, sweet, savory....a total home run! The dumplings were good but the dipping sauce was a little salty, I like it a little sweeter. Bonus for the free sample of kimchi, really nice!“
“Stephanie Food Truck was amazing! First of all, they came the day before to introduce themselves, make sure they knew the location to park the truck so there would be no delay, and they had enough people on hand to take care of the staff in a quick orderly fashion. On the day of our event, they showed up one hour early, staff filtered out and they served 111 people in an hour. The food was wonderful, Romero was so kind. The price, well let's just say - I was very pleased at the discount he offered and we WILL BE USING THEM AGAIN! Thank you Stephanie Food Truck, for a great experience, amazing food, fast service and gracious communication.DanielaNHS“
“Thanks for all the prior reviews that had us head here! Have to add on and pass it forward.Nice set up. Rustic. What a bbq place should be like! Service is not the most friendly but they get the job done and we were just fine.Fantastic ribs! The rub was so good I did not want any sauce. Probably the best ribs I have ever had!My husband loves BBQ sauce and was disappointed that it wasn't slathered in sauce. We did realize as we walked out, there was plenty sauce by the condiments table. My take , ribs are just perfect the way it is served, but if you want more sauce checkout the condiments table. Our son got the shrimp po boy sandwich and said it was excellent. The sides were good. Very tasty, we had the roasted corn, collard greens and Reese's pie. They are served very hot, so be careful not to burn.Last but not least, their cornbread was fantastic! Not sure if we will be back in Durham but if we are, we will stop by again!“
“My Dad and I stopped in here after seeing many great reviews and recommendations. The beef brisket was very tasty and had a wonderful smokey flavor without having too much sauce. Great coleslaw and extra crispy fries. Good service and food came very quickly!“
“Open mic on Wednesday nights at the Blue Note Grill is the hottest spot in the Triangle for grown-up folks! Awesome job Brett Chambers and The Usual Suspects. The wait staff is overwhelmed but most of them do their best to handle the large, thirsty crowd. But, if you can get past the rudest, nastiest woman at the front desk, the music and dancing make up for average food and adequate service.“
“Love this place for some rapid fast and dank Korean BBQ bowls. Kinda like chipotle with the style of service/food presentation but double the quantity and double the speed of getting the food to you. Was some super dank stuff, a little more pricey than a typical chipotle chicken bowl though. Nicely cooked and delicious kimchi. This place definitely hit the spot, but if you’re looking for spicy, even the spiciest items here are tolerable to a non-spicy tolerant person. Should definitely amp up the spice level on the spice dishes.“
“Had the smoked chicken plate with mac&cheese and creamed spinach. Everything tasted great. The only reason for 4 stars is because they ran out of brisket which was the initial reason of wanting to try this place out and they also ran out of baked potato so they gave us the creamed spinach to substitute. Hopefully next time they’ll have everything stocked up that we would like to try!Parking: It’s a shared parking lot in a little plaza so it could get filled up quickly especially on weekends.“
“They are only open for lunch because they are that good. It's always busy and I can see why! I grew up in rural NC and this is a taste of home. Smokey, tender meats with a variety to choose from and delicious side options too. The catfish is a hidden gem here if you enjoy a good piece of fried fish! Highly recommend.“
“Please bring the Jerk Turkey Tacos back! My go-to is always the Baht Mi sandwich but this special caught my eye and boy am I glad I tried it. I haven't found an amazing jerk dish in the triangle but this knocked my socks off! I hope I'll see it again. Easily a top contender on the menu!“
