They’ll bail last minute on DoorDash.
Terrible customer service, doesn't have barbecue chicken but it's on the menu, gave him baked chicken and poured sauce on it. No mac and cheese, but it's on the menu. No organization. Paid $15 for one piece of cat fish that wasn't cooked. Didn't get the sides we ask for., will never go back, worse experience ever.
Unorganized, Lack of Communication
Horrible!! Drove 30 mins just to leave with NO food!! Most food items where sold out 😒!! And they prepared another order before they prepared mine keep in mind this guy came in way AFTER me, then had the nerve to ask me what I was waiting on. Baby NOTHING, yall eat it. Should have went to City Barbeque. 😒 WILL NOT RETURN. CHECK detailed review on IG/TikTok

Nope! I came in at 6:30 pm tonight. In addition to not having collards, was told it was gonna be a 30min wait on Barbeque, asked about Beef ribs, none. And as far as new staff all employees seemed well acquainted to me 🤷🏿♀️.
Thanks for waiting my service but no thanks City Barbeque had everything I wanted. Blessings to you and your business.

The price does not match the quality of food. It's giving Lidl/Aldi chicken & beef. If I ever come back, it will be only for the Kool-aid. Or if they get quality food. Maybe hire a chef.

I had high expectations based on the reviews, but my experience didn’t live up to the hype. I ordered a brisket plate with mac and cheese, collard greens, hush puppies, and catfish.
Starting with the brisket—it wasn’t fresh. It seemed like a store-bought, thinly sliced version rather than a proper brisket cut. The mac and cheese had been sitting out for too long; it was dry and hard. The collard greens lacked flavor and could definitely use some salt. As for the catfish, it was not good at all—bland and overcooked.
On top of that, the staff and atmosphere left much to be desired. Hospitality was lacking, and I didn’t feel particularly welcomed. At $30, this meal did not feel worth the price.

Health inspection concerns as of December 2024.
Backyard BBQ (5122 NC-55 in Durham)
Received a score of 88% during an inspection on Dec. 10.
The restaurant was in violation of 16 standards.
Violations included heavy food debris build up on food thermometers, an employee seen without hair restraint while preparing food and sewage backing up onto floor in the dish area.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 94.5% in May.
The service is okay but the quality of the food is not great. I usually get the fried fish. But I stopped getting that because of the batter. I switched to the porkchop, but the cut is low quality. Not a fan of the shrimp either. It's not terrible, but as a restaurant owner, I can tell they use the cheapest products they can find. I was hoping to support a small business for my catering, but I will pass. Even the table next to me commented negatively on the cheese in the mac & cheese.
I’ve come here for years and love their southern food,
I got takeout today. I noticed the container was quite a bit smaller than in the past. I ordered catfish and got one piece in the past there was two and for the price it definitely was not worth it.
Their mac & cheese is heavenly which I ordered today but the guy, (sweet as he is ) dropped the entire pan Coming out from the kitchen on the floor and picked it up and put it in the serving area. I didn’t say anything, but I was a little astonished.
I chose to ignore that 94.5 rating but I Understand it now.
They seem very disorganized. I’m sorry to write this review because I love small businesses, but they need to step it up a notch.
Actually, was there a week ago to get mac & cheese for Thanksgiving and I ordered a plate and they seemed to have forgot about me ,after I sat there for 30 minutes They offered me a free drink… no,that was not enough compensation. I’m sorry.
Sadly , i wont be back.

Made a simple pork bbq order. 7 people behind me were served first and it appeared that my order had been forgotten. They eventually figured out I had been skipped and offered me 3 soggy hushpuppies… fries are also cold and stale. Too many quality bbq places around Durham to ever go back again.

Quick for the time of night but I won't go back. The price to portion wasn't good. And no BBQ available only a few fried food options. Yes I ordered really late but having no BBQ with BBQ in the name says a lot.

I waited 40 minutes for a brisket basket with fries. The fries are soggy, nothing is hot, and the brisket is 90% fat. I got no bbq sauce. Don’t waste your time eating here.
