Let me preface this by saying this was highly anticipated spot for me. New to downtown Durham and couldn't wait to try this establishment with a friend that was in town visiting. We arrived at 1:30ish. Our server greeted us and we didn't catch her name initially because the music was too loud. (The music's volume kept going from acceptable to way too loud to where you could barely here someone across from you). I asked our server for two waters with lemon. She came back about 10 minutes later and asked if we were ready to order. My friend and I ordered our food and an orange juice. I then reminded her about the water. She came close to us a third time but actually gave the waters to an older couple sitting next to us. That couple ended up leaving without ordering because they were out of chicken breasts and the gentleman wanted a chicken sandwich. At that point, I asked our server a third time for two waters. She proceeded to offer us the two waters that were sitting on the table next to us that belonged to the older couple. She said "they weren't touched". We politely declined and asked for two new waters. Who does that??!! When our food did arrive, my friend had ordered an omelette and her choice of side had been grits. She was given an omelette with potatoes. I had to flag our waiter down to bring her the grits. One of the reasons why we chose this establishment, was because of the mimosas that are on the menu on the website. However, we were told that they no longer serve mimosas because they don't have an alcohol permit that is current. Although the food was good, I'm not sure that I would return. We also had to ask for silverware after our food arrived. Which that enough itself is not a problem, but with everything else that had already happened, it was a bit annoying. When our check was brought to us, it was just left at the table. We were not given directions that we needed to pay upfront so we waited. And waited. Food was a four. Service was a two.

The staff were friendly and attentive enough. I wish I could comment about the food but had to leave before it was served. It took over 40 minutes to get 2 scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. Still no idea how long it would have taken. The cafe wasn't even busy.

First time inside of Beyu, and it did not disappoint. I've been to the Boxyard locations plenty of times when I used to work for Boxyard, but I had never been to this location. It's so cute on the inside and the food is really good. I ordered the meat lovers omelet with the caramello. The caramello is my favorite drink at Beyu, it's my go to and it's full on caramel! My server was really nice. I even brought a book to read because it was so peaceful in there. Can't wait to go back!

Great food, service and atmosphere. Truly a great breakfast with world class coffee....and I am picky about coffee. Well done!!

We're from out of town but was recommended to eat here. Very disappointed with the wait after others arrive their order taken before us. Waitress just missed out on a generous tipper. Don't eat at cafe.

Coffee is fine. The real issue I have is with the service. I've tried the place a few times and I would say 3 out of 4 visits the service was subpar. I once walked up to the register and a staff member made eye contact with me and continued to text/stay on their phone for more than two minutes before acknowledging me and taking my order. The service was pretty much the same quality the other visits. It is a decent place to study as it is generally quite.

Update: I clearly indicted the tip and total amount on the receipt (I kept the merchant copy so I have proof) however the charge on my credit card was $5 above the amount I wrote. I wrote the exact tip amount and total amount so this was not a case of an accident mis-reading of the amount. There are clearly some dishonest workers here and I will never come back because of this.

Highly recommended by my student. The ambiance, service, and food were fantastic. Welcomed as soon as I entered the restaurant and these days you can't find good customer service so I was very happy to see a smiling face. I was kindly sat at the window which was perfect for me as a solo guest. I ordered the dirty chai (hot) along with shrimp and grits and the class French toast. All the reviews about the FT are right on point! It was absolutely delicious.....the perfect sweetness with a little crunch that I love. Honestly, these food makes you feel just as good as 90/2000's R&B music, which ironically was playing as I enjoyed my beautiful brunch. As for the shrimp and grits, I had yet to find a dish that reminds me of mom's shrimp and grits.....until now! The grits were so creamy, the shrimp was seasoned as if my mom did it herself, and the sprinkle of lobster meat and Parmesan was the cherry on top. I don't have pictures because I was too excited, ready, and hungry to eat. But if you're in Durham and you love food....like really good food....you must make a stop here!

Was in town for a wedding over the weekend so had to try some of Durhams diners and restaurants. First morning we stopped in here because it was walking distance from our hotel. Nothing necessarily bad happened here but I was not blown away by anything either. Service was a little slow but it was a Saturday morning so they were relatively busy. Nice setting, seems they have jazz bands someday, just not for breakfast obviously. Food, meatlovers omelette, was average and pricing was fair. There are some really great places to eat in Durham and this one is just on the borderline. Worth a stop in if you have a few days and are looking to get some breakfast in the area!

First person in here the day after Thanksgiving - quiet as a desert at night. Got all the attention I needed. Lovely exchanges with staff: Jazzy, Brenda, and a young man with cool blonde hair and a big smile (host/barista). I had the French Toast Platter - highly-recommended. The menu is extensive. the location is perfect, and the dining room is appealing and quite sizable. As I was finishing up my cappuccino, one of the regulars burst in, and was greeted with a warm welcome. That's the south for you! They opened in 2009. I wish them many more years!

My brother and I had a great experience here. Our server was on point, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The coffee was nice and strong, none of that vile diner coffee here. The French toast platter (F/t, scrambled eggs, smoked sausage & fruit) was just perfect and I'm very particular when it comes to French toast. The design of the room was very aesthetically pleasing, very well appointed.Overall, the Beyu Cafe was an excellent choice for a Friday morning breakfast.

I got the turkey bacon, French toast, and eggs the food was good. Here's my issue my friend and I were seated within a reasonable time however our waitress never came ! Another server (Osario I think his was) took such great care of us when we weren't even seated in his section, our waitress had the nerve to come up to us and never even apologized for not coming or never even gave an explanation as to why she didn't wait on us (we sat there for a good 20 minutes before osario came and the place wasn't even busy ! Needless to say I'll be returning but without her as my server. I wish I got her name.

Came in today for breakfast while in the area. We arrived around 11:15 and was told it was an hour wait for a table, despite some being open inside. But no big deal, we decided to order food to go and sit at the tables across the street. The turtle mocha and white hot chocolate were the highlight of the meal. We both ordered the veg omelette and though it was good, it wasn't great. The staff are really personable and kind. The vibe inside is great, music selection is perfect. I can see why this place is so popular.

I came with my partner on a Saturday afternoon for coffee but ended up staying for brunch. The ambiance was very cozy warm and welcoming. It was pretty crowded when we arrived but we were able to be seated within 10 minutes.I ordered the classic French toast and the Carver's peanut butter (iced). I felt that the Carver's coffee was overhyped online, so my expectations were a bit too high, but I still enjoyed it regardless. The French toast was really good - definitely one of the best French toast I've had! Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely return next time we're in the area!
