Unfortunately I'm changing my 5 stars to 2 stars!! I would have made it 1 star, however, I loved my waitress April, the future nurse. It had been a while since visiting Blu so me and Charles (hubby) were excited when we made Valentine's Day reservations. Upon arrival NOTHING said this was a special day. No flowers on the table, nothing red or pink, NOTHING! The only thing different was the menu for 2/14/19! My husband said his food was "ok", he ate it so I will not address hi
Came here for lunch after an 8 year hiatus. My recollection of Blu included very fresh seafood. Unfortunately, my experience today did not live up to my memories. I ordered the house salad with Grouper added. The salad itself was decent. Basically, spring mix with some Chevre cheese & croutons. The Grouper itself was somewhere between flavorless and odd tasting. Predominantly, it tasted like salt and seasoning. Definitely not fresh off the boat. My fish creds, since they'll probably say it was fresh....I've lived most of my life near the coast, getting fish at markets where the fish they sold were swimming in the ocean earlier that day (that kinda makes me feel bad!). At this point, I can pretty much tell how it'll taste just by looking at it. That was true in this case as well.
You may not think that Durham has good seafood...think again! This place is amazing. The exterior leaves some to be desired but that is very Durham-Esque. The inside is quaint. They have amazing oysters and out of this world Shrimp and grits.
Our first visit was for my birthday, and it was awesome. Very attentive service staff, a lovely wine and beer list to start. The restaurant space is roomy and comfortable and “beachy‗very pleasant. The bread/butter was tasty to start. I then ordered the rainbow trout and my wife ordered the fettuccine, both of which were delicious and filling. We perused the dessert menu and vacillated over the house Key Lime pie, but decided we were too stuffed—only to be presented with a slice to go, free! Awesome birthday meal, and awesome dessert! We will definitely be back. The only negative was parking: There is not enough on a Friday evening, and we had to park in the Harris Teeter et al parking lot.
Matt was our server and he was excellent! Our food was great and came out in a timely manner. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought her dessert. Great experience!
One of my absolute favorite restaurants! They have AMAZING seafood dishes as well as cocktails and desserts. The staff is friendly. The seafood is caught fresh that day and the menu is often updated so there's always something new to try. Entrees tend to fall in the $20-$30+ range, well worth the quality of food. I go there every chance I get (date night, birthday, anniversary etc) and end up having some of the best food I've ever tasted.
We eat here twice a month because the food and service is excellent. Jan.30, we had dinner at Blu Seafood and we always drink decaffinated because of not sleeping with regular coffee, which we were served. (We asked repeatedly) More importantly, I cannot drink regular coffee because of a heart condition. It is now 4 AM on Jan.31 and we are both awake and my pulse is well above normal. We will continue to eat here; but, there is a reason that people drink decaf. Please be careful and honor that request.
We tried this restaurant for the Tri Restaurant week and loved the food (only reason for 2 stars). My online statement reflected an additional $10 amount. I keep the copies of my receipts so I double checked and they must have added it to the tip amount that I put on the receipt. We will not be returning to this restaurant even though we enjoyed the food. Double check your statements after dining at this restaurant!!!
Update: dinner last night was excellent. Waitress very attentive while giving us time. Diver Scallops & shrimp was perfect. Carolina Trout had a generous portion of crab on top (and not all bread crumbed up!) Highly recommend! from 2016 Dinner for four, a Friday night, reservation 6pm. Calamari was excellent (little spicy for me). Triangle Restaurant week menu - nice. Catch of the day changed before we ordered (odd, but that's ok, now we really got the catch of the DAY). Waitress was over worked, zoomed past us without looking most of the night. LONG waits between entrees. The food was excellent. Might be better experience on a slower night.
We have traveled from coast to coast and this was absolutely one of the top 5 in both service and quality of the meal. We shared the crab Mac and cheese appetizer, which came out bubbling hot, creamy with plenty of tender shreds of crab and a crunchy toasted crumb topping. Then for the main course my husband ordered shrimp and grits with Applewood bacon and fresh green beans. The shrimp was huge, sweet and perfectly cooked. The grits were the right consistency, but the h

Oyster night on Monday and Tuesday. Also, the almond crusted trout and the clam bake are fantastic.
Good food!
Calamari and the Shrimp and Grits - words can't even begin to describe how good they were !!!
Food is quite good. Tue is Oyster night (very fresh)! Have to say I'm not a fan of the crab Mac and cheese. Service was surprisingly casual. Server asked me to pass him my plate to clear.
Get the crab Mac & Cheese! No questions asked.
