Staff is super friendly, drinks are very reasonably priced, food is great on its own (and a lot better than what you’d expect from a bar - sorry if that comes across as a backhanded compliment 😅), and there is a wide selection of arcade games that are a ton of fun. It’s become one of my favorite places to go in Durham!

Fun, relaxed atmosphere. Great drinks, fun games, loud inside, but lovely outdoor space. Had a 13yo b-day party here, kids had a great time. Highly recommend the pickle pizza.

We had an alright time here - the tokens are more expensive than the machines suggest which is kind of annoying. For example, the pinball costs 4 tokens and many machines say this is $1. But as of Nov 2025, the tokens are 15 for $5, 30 for $10, etc. So we felt a little annoyed by this price differential. It would be a matter of simply correcting or removing the signage, because 4 tokens is ~$1.33.

Great bar with friendlier staff. Always a good time and tons of stuff to do. Cheaper than a regular arcade and a great selection from modern to classics
We travel from Raleigh to come to this specific boxcar. This used to be our favorite spot to come to after work and on the weekends to chill and relax but lately the atmosphere has not been the same. We were told there will be NO MORE FIRE-PIT due to expenses … that’s crazy!! Hopefully this review reaches the right people.

What was once the GO-TO spot everyday of the week has now dwindled to maybe 2/3 visits a week. Soon to become 2/3 visits a month.. The atmosphere is declining. NO MORE FIREPIT DUE TO OPERATION COSTS??!! C'mon guys.. get it together and fix it please. Or take donations for the upkeep. Some of us go OUT of the way to enjoy our time at your establishment.. the little things matter T & J.

This place is AMAZING we went just yesterday and I felt the need to write this review! The place has an amazing atmosphere that kicks in right as you walk in, HUGE arcade plenty to do, they even have guitar hero so you know I had to! And it is nice place for families to come and hang out, kids can play games that rage from old-school to pop-a-shot while the adults can get a quick beer and watch a sports game. Amazing place to go to highly recommend! 5 STARS

On a busy friday night this place takes the crown. After the Durham bulls game this place was packed with a great atmosphere. Our $20 in tokens lasted around 2 hours. Great variety of games, some old some new.

One day my daughter called me, (knowing that Skeeball is both of our favorite arcade games), and said Boxcar is having a Skeeball tournament on Wednesday, do you want to go… I said sure! That was two and a half years ago, and excluding vacations and surgeries, we’ve played every Wednesday since! We love the place!! I’m not only really fortunate to get to hang out with my daughter for a few hours having fun playing the game we love. But the employees there have become friends. They’re all great people! Friendly and professional! Especially Malik and Crews, but honestly all of them! Just solid good folks! The food is surprisingly on a level I wasn’t expecting… excellent! And the bartenders bust their butts to get you served… I love this place!! And my favorite day and hi lights of the week is Wednesdays of course because of Skeeball at Boxcar!! Thanks so much for what you do! We’ve even made friends with the regulars who come on Wednesdays to play Skeeball! Is just a great and friendly atmosphere!! And a second thanks to Malik for bringing the fun, and making it happen! I would and do recommend Boxcar to everyone who wants to have a great time in downtown Durham! The best!! 😋❤️👍🏻
