The food has always been good and fresh and excellent portions. Everyone is friendly and helpful if you have questions. The pollo de crema was good, the roasted chicken meal too. We ordered one of the meals for two once with beef and shrimp and it was more like for three and a half. Salads are packaged separate and fresh, not wilted pieces included alongside your hot dish. This is my go to spot when having company because I feel like everyone can find something here and the prices are very reasonable. Never dined in but I would. When picking up the music is always good and the place is clean. Five stars all the way!

I use to really enjoy this place but it seems now that the prices keep going up and they are making the portions smaller. If you were going to make the portions smaller than do that and keep the same price if not raise the price but don’t do both. Then just to get ONE slice of cake or pie it’s like $7 when it use to be $5. Which wouldn’t be bad if the portion size was better. They won’t even give out a free cup of water of ice they charge you a dollar and it’s a small cup half filled. Not sure why it’s been going the way it’s going but I have stopped going there as much because the food is just not worth how much they are trying to charge for it now. They also don’t ever have specials so if you’re looking for lunch specials or anything this is not the place for you.

I usually like to eat at local restaurants twice before I write a review, but once was enough for El Chapin. We tried several different items from the menu and everything was really good. We're looking forward to returning to enjoy more Guatamalan flavors.

First time dining at this delicious little restaurant in Durham. The waitress was so nice and friendly, considering there were only one or two girls serving the entire place. The food was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I ordered the chicken and beef skewers, my husband ordered the chile Relleno. The portion sizes were perfect, although I couldn't finish mine after sharing 4 cupcakes at first. I love the little market too! My husband grew up in El Salvador and was excited to see products he hadn't seen locally. We're about to order takeout cake and grab some snacks, but I wanted to shout out how wonderful, warm, and comfortable our experience was tonight. Thank you El Chapin!

We're about to order some cake to go and grab a few treats but I wanted to just shout out what a wonderful, warm, and comfortable experience we had tonight. Thank you El Chapin!
