It's 2025. How hard is it to not serve food in toxic styrofoam? Styrofoam plates for people who are dining in is just ridiculously lazy. Also, I don't see how this place gets so many good reviews, the baked chicken is filled with grease. Skip this one, There's plenty of other lesser known southern places that are actually good.

No nonsense place to eat. If you like Southern cooking, you’ll like Home Plate. Plates won’t break the bank and will fill you up. They make your plate behind the counter or you can grab your food through the drive through as well.
I’ve had the fried chicken, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, banana pudding, and the sweet tea/lemonade. I’ve been here twice and surprised I didn’t eat here more often when I lived in the area. This place is a go to stop if I visit out that way.

I came back from visiting my mom at senior spot 2022 man I just came across this they got some mouth smacking soul food. I feel like renting a car and driving back down there for some mac and cheese and pork chops

The food wasn’t the issue; it was the customer service. I visited Homeplate this evening, September 19th. While my plate was being fixed, I noticed that the top of the styrofoam plate was broken. When the lady at the register was putting my plate in the bag, I started mentioning that the plate was broken and asked if she could tie the bag tightly so that the top stayed down. However, I didn’t even get that far before she immediately cut me off. She then turned to the young man who fixed my plate and said, “She wants a new plate.” I told her, “No, I don’t. It’s all good.” She continued to instruct the young man to give me a new plate. I reiterated that I was fine and that a new plate wasn’t needed. After the lady at the register finally put my plate in the bag, I noticed that after all that commotion, my potato salad had never been put in a container. I mentioned this, and I was met with attitude. Once the potato salad was packaged, my girlfriend and I proceeded to leave. As we were leaving, the lady at the register said, “The customers are going in tonight.” Now, I’m not sure what she meant by that, but when she was asked if there was a problem, she said, “No.” We then continued out the door only to hear her shout, “That’s what I thought!”
This whole interaction was unnecessary and unprofessional. The cashier’s assumption that I wanted a whole new plate caused all this uncomfortable drama.

I tell you what....I just ate some of the best blueberry cobbler this side of heaven. We come here often and have never had a bad experience, but that cobbler by itself warrants a review today...I'd almost say its better than grandma's but I can't be that disloyal😂😂 When I say ita good. Home Plate brought back nostalgic memories from growing up in rural NC that I haven't tasted in so long! The fried chicken was delicious and crispy, everything was well seasoned and the prices were shocking (in a good way)! My husband and I both got plates full of quality food and fountain drinks for under $25! No frills, but none needed. Food with love that reminds me of home. Definitely a regular spot for us from now on!
