We were in town for extended medical treatments at Duke. I was craving home cooked comfort and this place satisfied my comfort food and spirit.
On our second visit ( 2 weeks between ti.es) we were greeted as if we were daily guest . They even remembered the place we had sat the first time!
The food is as awesome as the people! Large portions of home cooked goodness.i high recommend the carrot souffle.

Me and family had the worst experience today at Hope Valley on Shannon Road Durham NC. First after ordering we waited 40 minutes to be served. My eggs and my waffle was cold. My husband ordered a omelette with bell peppers and tomato’s added. The bell papers and tomatoes were not there. Not only that the omelette and all the fillings was burnt. His hashbrowns was burnt like straw. And his toast had plastics brush bristles mixed with the butter. The waitress was nice enough to remove his meal from the ticket. However after all these years I don’t think we will be going back.

This place is great overall for the vibes. I am sure they could find a way to make the food better, but for how great the service and atmosphere is, the prices are already excellent. I put 4 stars to not overhype it. Highly recommend for the price and service.

Good food, though the restaurant is pretty noisy when it's busy. Service is also a little slow. Worth returning to, however.

1 of my favorite places in Durham NC to eat any meal, and it might be a Diner/Cafe,but you can have an alcoholic beverage or a glass of wine with your dinner. I couldn't ask for anything better than this little quaint place to take anyone at anytime of day. Highly recommend if never been there!!

The food is OK. We had a ham sandwich and a bbq bun plate, they were just meh. It's just as big room with a lot of people eating. One server was really helpful and alert, others not. We waited 20 minutes for food and I finally realized I would be late if I ate at the Diner, so I asked for mine to go. I won't be back.

Exceptional Catering- Delicious Food & Impeccable Service.
On October 8, we hosted an event at work with 180 people. We were absolutely thrilled with the catering experience. From to start to finish, the staff was professional, attentive, and genuinely kind. The food was not only beautifully presented but also incredibly flavorful-every dish was a hit with our guests!
Special thanks to Kellie, Sarah and Luis. They accommodated our needs and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Their attention to detail and warm service made the event more memorable. Highly recommend for anyone seeking top-notch catering with a personal touch!

Food is always top tier. Wait staff is very kind. (My waitress was the shorter female with a bob cut, she’s AMAZING!) She made a recommendation to try the lemonade, and I will be back because of her kindness and the lemonade! P.S GET THE LEMONADE ‼️

This morning me and my husband decided to try this diner and absolutely did not regret it! All the staff that greeted us were very friendly, our waitress Casey explained the menu and was very patient with us. Our food was excellent. I also noticed how accommodating the staff was to everyone. The manager seemed very hands on which I appreciate seeing. You don’t usually see managers out on the floor, but he was there making sure that everyone was happy. We will be back tomorrow.

We came with a group of 4. The food was late and we received the wrong order. Not the servers fault, but when the owner (Will?) came to our table he was incredibly unpleasant. Shame.

Terrible food and the owner is a really bad person. Would not eat here again.

Went here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised! The staff was lovely and on top of everything and the food was amazing. My spouse got the western omelet with some wheat toast, he loved it and practically cleaned his plate! The Belgian waffle with pecans was amazing and the eggs were so fluffy and delicious, the bacon was plentiful and cooked perfectly. For all the food we got, it wasn't very expensive which is a nice change. We will definitely be coming back again!

Let me preface this by saying that Hope Valley Diner has always been one of my family's favorite spots to eat. We love going there for brunch, but the rest of my family also loves dining there for dinner. The past couple of times have been really disappointing. The coffee was cold, I ordered an egg white omelet cooked well-done and received whole eggs, and there was a lipstick mark on my coffee mug (I don't wear lipstick, and I was able to rub off part of it with a napkin, proving that it wasn't a permanent mark). None of this was our server's fault, in fact, Katie was (and always is) exceptional. I know she wrote my order down correctly, made fresh coffee, and comped my omelet. She is a great waitress, but the food quality was sub-par, I received the wrong order, and the eggs came out still clucking. I was particularly grossed out by the dirty coffee mug (see attached pic). I hope things improve.

The food is bad but more importantly the owner is awful and they way they treat their staff is horrendous. Please do not support this practice.
