I had the pleasure of visiting It’s a Southern Thing in North Carolina, and WOW—this place is something special! I was immediately drawn to their steak and cheese sub with pimento jalapeño cheese spread, grilled onions, and bell peppers. One bite and I was hooked.
Being from Texas, we don’t have many spots that serve a steak and cheese sub this perfectly balanced and flavorful. This sandwich blew my mind—it’s comfort food...read full review

It's a Southern thing - Downtown Durham offers a mix of good service and food, with some exceptions. The restaurant serves a variety of dishes, including the Pete Loaf and Salmon, as well as appetizers like fried green tomatoes. The ambiance is well-decorated and appealing, making it a good spot for drinks and a relaxed atmosphere. However, service can sometimes be slow and not very attentive, especially when the restaurant is busy. The country steak is flavorful, and the collard greens are seasoned well. The lemon drop from the bar is highly recommended. Many visitors enjoy dining here before shows at DPAC, praising the food and service, but some mention long wait times due to understaffing. Overall, it's a place to enjoy drinks and ambiance, with some nights offering better experiences than others.
The restaurant's atmosphere is great, with a nice location. The food quality varies, as the wings are flavorful, but other dishes may miss the mark. The collard greens have too much stem for some. The restaurant is upstairs, and the elevator was broken, making it currently inaccessible to all. The waffle balls are delightful, and the shrimp and grits are delicious. The restaurant has street parking with meters. The patio offers a great ambiance, with yard games and space for dancing. The catfish meal is delectable, and the bacon meatloaf is also recommended.
