Great experience. The food and service was excellent. They were participating in Triangle Restaurant Week. Pick 3 menu for $25. Wonderful selections on the menu. The only draw back were the drink prices. Extremely expensive for the size of the drink. Small margarita was $15.

I drove into town for the Chris Brown concert, and after checking into the hotel, this spot was recommended for a quick bite. We arrived right when they opened, so it was nice and quiet -- perfect for a relaxed start. The food was absolutely amazing. I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try!

AUTOMATIC GRATUITY!!!!!!
Also, very disappointed that my entree was about the only lunch meal that did not have a side included. I didn’t notice so I ordered a salad as a side. Not realizing that I ordered a $9 additional salad. 😳 The waiter didn’t say anything. And my entree wasn’t any bigger than anyone else’s dish. We were a party of 6.
Pros: I appreciate the work they put into decorating for the holidays.
Cons: food was mediocre. The elevator was broken and my Mother is 80 years old. Charged for a salad $9. Very long waits between courses, waits for receipt. Seemed to be 1 waiter servicing the lunch rush. 🤦🏽‍♀️

The food was ok, there were very few vegetarian/vegan options. Apparently not a southern thing. We ordered meatloaf catfish and dumplings which were all good but pricey for just ok food. The server was a sweetheart she made the evening!!

I visited Its a Southern Thing on Saturday and the service and food was amazing. Renee took very good care of our party. If you are looking for a good brunch spot, I highly recommend this location.

Always a great experience. From the unlimited mimosas to the delicious food, everything was excellent. Our waiter—though I can't remember his name—was outstanding: extremely attentive, personable, and made our brunch even more enjoyable.

We visited on 12/18/25 after driving about an hour from Fayetteville and were really excited to try this place. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing.

When we arrived, we were not greeted or acknowledged at all. We waited with no guidance on whether to seat ourselves or how to order, and no staff member came over to help. As first-time visitors, it was confusing and unwelcoming.

Sadly, we left without being served. I hope this feedback helps improve the customer experience moving forward.

Folks!!! This is the place for a fantastic meal, any time of day. My husband and I were traveling for work and this place was close by. I was just blown away by how flavorful and well prepared the meals were. Very attentive staff, service excellent and man that Fish Sandwich was bigger than my face! Literally the BEST breading on all the fried foods we had. Super clean and decorated with local passion.

We spent our date night at It’s a Southern Thing in downtown Durham, and everything was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the service was spot-on, and the food… incredible. Every dish was full of flavor and made us feel right at home. It was the perfect place to relax, enjoy great food, and make memories. We’ll definitely be back—highly recommend! 👌🏽💯

Food is decent but adding a mandatory gratuity of 15% for only 2 people then tip the waitress is insane. It shouldn’t cost $110 before tip for 2 people to have a small app of fried green tomatoes, an entree each, and 2 drinks at this type of restaurant.
