Best cocktail bar around
Michelle & Sean are excellent individuals, who together run a great team. Love Kingfisher. Most innovative cocktail list in the area.

Amazing experience! 20 stars. Atmosphere, fresh mint leaves, and other items with cool ass drinks. Such great appetizers, we had the olives and charcuterie board. All amazing would love to come back in a heartbeat. Check this badass place out, such a cool vibe! The bartenders are awesome too, very personable!

I’ve gone back and forth about writing this, but I had such a terrible experience here this past weekend I felt I needed to share.
My husband and I were celebrating my birthday in downtown Durham and decided to stop in Kingfisher for a drink. We were greeted by a male host who asked us if we wanted a table or bar seat, we told him either is fine but we’d prefer a table if it was possible. He said it was and escorted us to the back of the main area to sit down. The table was a fine size, not terribly cramped but not especially large either. We started looking at our menus and about 5 minutes later a woman approached us accusing us of seating ourselves at the table (she identified herself as the host). We told her the male host sat us and she replied that we could “enjoy yourselves for now but if a party larger than yours comes in, I will ask you to get up”. I was shocked. I asked if we could be moved to a different table now instead? I clarified that she was saying that we could order drinks and at any point be asked to get up if a group with one or two more people enters the restaurant? She replied that yes, we would be asked to move and ignored my request to just be moved now to a table she’d prefer us at.
The male host came over and confirmed to her that he sat us there, that he didn’t realize it was for a group of 3-4 people, and then reiterated what she had said. I again asked him if we could be moved somewhere else now so we aren’t asked to get up after we’ve ordered drinks because I felt that was a bit ridiculous. His response- “would you rather stand?”… long story long, we left.
The right thing to do would have been to either let us order our drink at the table we were sat at and have a teaching moment for the newer male host— or just move us to a different table— or tell us you would let us to order drinks and that you’d let us know when a two top was available to move— literally so many other options. Instead, we were treated with the worst customer service I’ve ever received. Ever. haven’t had such a bad experience in a bar or restaurant. I was shocked that they would unapologetically treat customers that way.

Outstanding bar and the perfect compliment to Queeny's upstairs. In fact, the first bar of its kind that I stepped foot in as a Durham resident. It is to me, the standard all other bars are compared to in the city.
Morning Glory - the best cocktail in Durham, hands down! My other half will work his way through the whole menu, but I'll stick with this while scarfing down the chicharrones. Great friendly staff. A blast whether you're sitting at the bar, at the tables, on the couch, or with a larger group in the little cubby tables.

2 drinks and greasy cheese curds $52.27
Drink was less than half filled once I took the block of ice out. Way too overpriced.
We went last night and it was exactly the kind of place we've been looking for in regard to atmosphere, intimate and cozy, you could hear the upbeat music but it wasn't too loud, you could still have a conversation, we sat at the bar and Robert took great care of us! We tried drinks from the menu and then told him what we liked and let him surprise us, every drink was a hit, especially the vodka pear gimlet! I'm not normally an ice cream girl but he is and I always try it, I woke up thinking about the chai banana pudding ice cream and searching for the source online. I kept going back for more, it may have been the best ice cream I've ever had. We also ordered the fries with powdered cheese, they were fine. It would be nice to have a few more options/small plates but we will definitely be back. We talked to some really nice people next to us and the bathrooms were really clean. Very much looking forward to going back. Thank you for a great date night.
This is a top notch bar! What a cocktail bar should be. Drinks are always creative and delicious, and if you don't find something on the menu you like (which is a shocker), they have a lot of hidden gem bottles to make you happy.
Good cocktails, comfy atmosphere, nice pet-able walls in case of anxiety
Phenomenal cocktail bar! We got seated pretty much immediately at the bar late on a Friday night. Super nice vibes and tasty cocktails: smooth but still reasonably strong. I also appreciated that they weren’t outrageously priced even for some of the signature cocktails - would definitely come back to try more of the selection! There was energy but never felt too crowded - do note that there was 20% built in gratuity.
