My favorite bar food in Durham

Reni Nish

I was a bit disappointed with the food experience. When you order something classic like a burger and poutine you expect it to meet the usual standard. Poutine really should come with cheese curds, and a $10 burger shouldn’t feel like a slider. The total came to $24, which felt high given the quality. That said, the ambiance was great, and I appreciated the bartender’s recommendation I went with her suggestion of the burger and poutine.

Poutine isn’t made with melted cheese. The
recipe is French fries, hot brown gravy, and fresh cheese curds. Curds not melted mozzarella that makes the fries soggy mess.

This is bar food - open late at night. Some is even healthy. Very helpful staff. Street parking getting impossible but plenty of small lots.

Quick service depending on what you order. Good drinks. Golden road mango beer was light and tasty.

Beer battered shrimp very good. Steak pita a bit salty. Churrasco slider tender but small for $10. Kimchi loved by all as was the poutine (Canadian French fries) with Marsala sauce.

Staff wasn't all that glad to see us. Funny, cuz they weren't that busy. Just not interested.

My go to spot for lunch or to unwind with friends after work. Daniela makes the best Aperol Spritz in town, and the food is always fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is welcoming, vibrant, and diverse. If you are visiting Durham, add Parts and Labor to your list. Highly recommend!

This is a neat spot and was ideal for a quick drink as we hopped around the area. It looks like a former auto shop with big bay doors that can be opened on nice days. They have a projector that plays movies and TV shows and that was cool. The drinks weren't anything fantastic, but I would pop in again.

The good: atmosphere, staff, drinks convenience, price, range of healthy options

Bad: rice was pretty undercooked, food was mid, and the wait was 15-20 minutes longer than we were told.

Thoughts: this is more a place to get a drink and hang out before a concert next door than it is a place to eat. Dont try to eat here before a show as you will not have enough time whether you come early before the opener or come during the opener.

We came here last night around 6:30/7 pm for my birthday via a party bus. Despite us not being drunk or rowdy, the bar refused to serve us half of us alcohol because, as they said, “we came off of a party bus” for liability reasons. I really love this place, which is why I wanted to go on my birthday, but not serving half of us (mostly the men) just because we were on a party bus is insanity. Especially since the night before they had a private event with people from party buses.

the ghost pepper wings slap. i’m pretty into spicy things and these are truly spicier than most things i’ve ever gotten in a restaurant. only $10 but proceed with caution. a lot of caution.

i usually get them with something else to chase them and the sesame udon salad is really good for that. super refreshing and just the right level of sweet and citrus-y. plus the tofu is crisped up.

vibe is great, staff are super friendly!

also big recommendation for the poutine if you want end of the night comfort food.

So the atmosphere is awesome, the service is great, it's really clean and the staff is super nice. We only went to the bar and ate, but there's a live music spot attached also but they were having some kind of event and we didn't really have time to inquire.

However, the portions. The food is really good, but everything is 'ala carte' so 4 dollars for a slider, 8 if you want two. Then another 4-8 bucks if you want a side and your drink is also another 4ish dollars. The portions just weren't great.

BUT, it's a nice change that going to a place with bar food and all the options are healthy, has a ton of vegan friendly options which is also not something you see a lot of places. Like I wouldn't recommend going if your super hungry or you're willing to order a bunch of sides but it's definitely a cute spot
