This place is a true GEM to Durham! I celebrated my birthday here July 2024 with a group of 17 people and from the initial conversation with the staff they were extremely efficient, professional and accommodating! And the food…the food was incredible! The drinks were made perfectly, the service was top notch and the atmosphere was very accommodating. I 100% recommend this place, no matter the occasion! Thank you all for accommodating my large group and making sure we had an unforgettable evening.
I live in Boston, MA but I’m from Durham, NC. My parents still live in Durham. As a Christmas gift I bought them tickets to see the righteous Brothers at the DPac. Growing up, my parents had every album of the righteous Brothers. I knew they would enjoy the show. As you might guess the show was primarily people over the age of 65. Let’s be real over the age of 70. I also bought them a gift certificate to Nana‘s steak to enjoy a meal before the show. We’ve enjoyed meals there before. I also attempted to make a reservation for them. They were not taking reservations That night, March 13, 2025. I attempted to make a reservation way in advance and it was in fact closed to reservations for that day. I don’t know if it’s a policy to not do reservations on nights of shows or what but I’ve seen this before. Maybe it was a Staffing thing I really I have no idea why they weren’t taking reservations, but they were not. So, Thursday, my parents who are 80 went to Nana steak for their meal before the show. The first thing they were asked is do you have a reservation? They of course, said no and apparently lots of other people also said no, and they were senior citizens like my parents. There was only one table with customers in the dining section. The gentleman at the house stand told my parents and all the other seniors that without a reservation, they had to sit in the bar area. My Mom! told them she would have difficulty getting up and down from a high bar chair Due to issues with her knees. Again, she had just turned out the day before. She gets around OK but you know she’s not jumping up and down from barstools anymore. The gentleman at the hostess stand told her she could get up on one of those stools or leave. Everyone was told the same thing. Many people did leave because they could not get up on the barstools. My dad also 80, but a former fireman was able to assist my mother to get up on the stool and to get down. It was dangerous though it shouldn’t have happened. Nana’s required to follow the Americans With Disabilities Act. They certainly did not this night. The bar area was packed with senior citizens having dinner before the show. When my parents left there were three tables set in the dining area. There was absolutely no excuse for this to happen to anybody, but in particular those who made it clear, they were not physically capable of getting often on barstools. It is a clear violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act and I will be pursuing that. It’s also just very poor management. Why would anyone go to this restaurant when they behave in this manner. Again, not our first time going here. Not the first time before show. Just so you’re aware my mother has survived three separate cancers and has lived to 80. My father was a firefighter and a veteran. They have been to this restaurant before they did enjoy the food. I wouldn’t have bought a gift certificate as part of their Christmas present if they did not. We prefer experiences as gifts. This was terrible and I feel terrible. The show was great I understand. I would warn anyone who’s thinking about visiting this restaurant to just not do it. Some people are just too terrible to support.
Great dining experience!!

Amazing pre show dinner in the bar area! It was paced so nicely that we never felt rushed. Cocktails are wonderful! Great vibrant atmosphere.

Steak was huge, unlike other premium steakhouses (looking at you STK). The quality was insane and they were able to deliver the perfect Pittsburgh sear. Would recommend

I met family/friends at NanaSteak on 10/12/24 evening. We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival. The food was very good, the steaks were beautiful, cooked perfectly. I ordered the salmon which was also spot on. Our table of 4 shared 3 sides and 2 appetizers, all delicious. Our server was attentive and pleasant (Jared, I believe, excuse the misspelling ?). The atmosphere was relaxed and elegant. We have been to other steakhouses in the area, but this was hands down the best food and overall experience. Looking forward to my next visit.

The service was absolutely horrible. Not at all to the standards of a high end steakhouse. The waitress was incredibly rude, barely checked on us and rushed us out. Going to a nice steakhouse we would have expected kinder service. Extremely disappointing experience, there are better places to have a nice quality meal with better service.

Cannot believe we have been walking by this place enroute to DPAC. Best steaks in the area! I preferred it over Angus barn and Ruth’s! Our first was perfectly seasoned and cooked and was delicious to the last bite. The sides were just as flavorful. A huge portion of fries cooked in beef fat and green beans sautéed with onion! Every mouthful was a treat! Our server and her assistants couldn’t have been more attentive or friendly! What a find!!!!

Excellent experience, although the table next to us was quite loud, almost yelling. Thankfully my husband and I shared his AirPods. ;) However, the food and the staff and atmosphere were amazing!
I've only been here twice, and each time my steak was not cooked correctly. Last time I was here, I ordered the 6 oz. filet mignon, as did everyone else at the table. Mine was significantly smaller (~4 oz. of meat), and I'd ask for medium rare and it came medium-well. If it's under, it's easy to ask them to cook it up a bit, but if it's over, you can't really send it back because it would have delayed everyone else at the table for the show we were attending at DPAC. The time before I had asked for rare and it came at medium.
If you're charging $45 for a steak, in my book, you have to be able to consistently deliver it at the requested temperature. I've had a better experience with Metro 8 at 20% less.
