Great Guatemalan food. I had the fish tacos ; others in my party tried Guatemalan style Tamales and chicken empanadas. All three were great. Even the side of rice with sauce was very flavorful
Parking: Access to the parking /restaurant from the road is tricky. We shot past and had to turn into the next strip mall and double back.

Roots is now El Quetzal. I had nachos and my daughter had cheese dip and chips. Chips seemed stale and queso tasted like it was straight from the can (10.99). Nachos had some fresh ingredients but with stale chips werenât great (12.99). Perhaps other menu items are better.

I really liked the cajun shrimp tacos. The rice had an odd flavor to it almost like a cleaning agent was in it. The guacamole and homemade chips were awesome!

Loved Roots! The best ACP I have ever had, and I've had quite a few. The patio is wonderful!

$7 for two bottles of regular Spring water.
I can buy a whole case of the same water for less at the grocery store.
After seeing the price they charged for water we decided to eat somewhere else because we could have only imagined how much they price gouge for food.
Visited this restaurant on the night of my arrival to NC straight from the airport. Happy they served us as it was late on a weeknight and they were closing soon. Food was decent and tacos were very good but the live musician was very loud. The couple who books the music in addition to the manager, were very nice.

I placed a to go order for 2 sandwiches with Roots. When I arrived home, I realized the sandwiches were not prepared as I had become accustomed to them being prepared. The cuban was missing the Dijon aioli. Okay, so I can mix some mayo and mustard together to spread on my sandwich. However, when I saw the Philly cheese steak, it became apparent the food was rushed (and I was the only customer). The shaved steak was sandwiched between the bread (no effort to chop it or season it) and the chipotle aioli was missing. This isn't the first time I've had a disappointing meal from this establishment. However, I continued to visit this restaurant because I recalled the better meals I've had with them. It's back on the hunt again for a restaurant that can give me solid consistent cuban. This last visit left me disappointed. I can't spend 30 dollars for the quality I received again.
No stars for atmosphere because I was in and out.

I came in tonight because I was at a neighboring outdoor patio and decided to try the CrÚme Brûlée cake from Roots.
The very nice hostess took my to-go order. It was $8.83 for the cake and I left a $2 tip. Upon getting back to the patio area I opened the to-go box to find a small slice of cake(more of a cheesecake) and two dollops of cream. I went to taste it(one very small bite) and immediately upon tasting it I found the âcakeâ to be stale and very old. Tasted like it was straight from a box that had been left open in the fridge for a month. I went to take it back into the restaurant and explained to the hostess and asked for a refund. The hostess apologized and I told her it wasnât here fault but Iâd just like a refund please. She went and found the manager/owner and he came back yelling at me stating, â This is good, nothing wrong!â He had ate two bites from the cake. I told him, no sir itâs bad and old. Iâm a pastry chef and while I can appreciate a good boxed cake, this cake was far from good! He literally sat there and yelled at me and finally very rudely supposedly refunded my card.
I highly recommend taking your money and time elsewhere where they take pride in their food and donât serve old/stale food. As well as have rude and mannerless mangers/owner!
I only gave this 1 star simply because of the nice hostess. Everything else is a zero!

I first placed an order which was half frozen which they tried to replace with another order which was very soggy and mostly filled with cheese instead of actual stuffing. This looked like Mexican bar food which I wouldnât recommend to eat.

Some friends and I stopped by, first time for all of us. The pupusas are *lips smacking* good. The seasoning of their wings wasn't bad, but definitely felt like there could be a bit more salt or maybe. Server staff were really nice. There was a large table that had come in before us so the kitchen and staff were trying to take care of those orders first and it naturally delayed our orders. Would come back again to give the staff another shot. Good atmosphere, liked there was the patio option and we could hear live music playing nearby.
