We just discovered this spot - it is A+, great food, service and ambiance! Will definitely be going back.
Wish I had a photo of the jin boat to post! A steamed and raw platter that we shared with raw oysters and cockles, steamed mussels and shrimp, salmon tartare and more and every item was a perfect taste bite. I am sad to have discovered this place just before it closes.
The ambiance and decorations were nice. The food was good—the aguachile, grilled oysters, and hush puppies were the favorites of the evening. The tuna tartare was very creamy and needed some citrus, like the aguachile sauce, to brighten it up. The crab dip had good flavor, but the viscosity was thin. Both the tartare and crab dip were mayonnaise heavy. The hush puppies were so light and airy, they were like donuts. Service was efficient and friendly. Overall a good dining experience.
The oysters (raw), mussels and BBQ shrimp were all excellent ?. The drink selection was good and the few we tried were all well made. Our server was friendly, attentive and made great suggestions. The nautical atmosphere was a nice touch. Will definitely go back.
We were greeted by the host who asked if we had reservations early on a Thursday night. We did not. We were seated upstairs in a back corner. We weren't given the option of sitting at the bar which remained mostly empty during our dinner. Initially we didn't feel very welcomed. Our waitress was great and so was the food. This made for a good recovery. We will definitely try it again.
We had been wanting to try Saint James Seafood for so long. Luckily we had a special occasion to make reservations (and do make reservations) for an evening of parents meeting over great conversation and seafood! The restaurant decor is uniquely nautical with a touch of whimsy. The manager and staff were absolutely wonderful. From getting us seated to explaining the menu to getting our food quickly, the service at Saint James Seafood blows others out of the water. And now the food. Words are not enough to describe the perfect portions of each delicious delectable offering. Did I try each dish? Yes. Would I order any or all of them? Of course. My Deviled crab linguine was magnificent. It was perfectly spiced with all the Old Bay goodness. The husband’s shrimp and grits was delicious from first bite to last. My mom who is not a dill cream sauce person raved about how expertly it paired with the Scottish salmon. Last but never least, the crowd favorite - fried seafood platter. My father and mother-in-law both opted for the traditional crowd pleaser of fried catfish and fried shrimp, respectively. Perfect. Golden. Fried. Superb.Thank you Saint James Seafood for an absolutely wonderful experience. Durham is so lucky you rebuilt and are thriving. You’re on the rotation. ??? ??❤️????️?
Was looking for a fresh fish dish. First time here. Did not disappoint to say the least. Best wahoo dish I've ever had. Curry base with fish on top. Highly recommend. We sat at the bar with full menu late night and had great service! For date nights ask for the "Crow's Nest" when booking your reservation. Going back one night this week again for sure!
The staff went above and beyond to fulfill my request. They definitely made me a happy girl with those oysters. I will definitely be back!
I was underwhelmed. The oysters were good; but we had to ask for the sauces they usually come with. We ordered the bbq shrimp as the appetizer, and the creole cioppino as the main plate as recommended by our waiter. Both had ok tastes. The bbq sauce was good, the shrimp were normal. I thought the seafood stew was too small and pricey for being on the larger menu and the taste wasn’t special.
Was in town for a short trip and this place was a great spot to spend a friday night dinner. Great portion sizes, good food, nice beer selection, and these awesome doodles on the placemats. Also have to mention the decor for being the right balance of kitschy and iconic.

The food was amazing, I ordered the Cajun crab fettuccine & hot crab dip. Atmosphere is very cool too ⚓️
Between the local raw bar, very fresh seafood and the best Hush Puppies I have ever eaten, St. James Seafood was a home run. Loved the local NC and VA raw oysters, Cioppino and Brussels sprouts as well. Nicely crafted cocktails and Key lime pie, too. A little pricey and well worth it.
I had my heart set on the King Crabs and they don’t sell them anymore. I settled for crab fettuccine which had shells in it. Left feeling defeated.
Wowww... we were blown away. This is some of the best seafood we have ever had. Awesome raw selections and great drinks! The staff was also very accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend this place -- 5 stars all around!
Great hush puppies. Sadly, that was the highlight of the meal in terms of the food. The shrimp and grits were ok, but really soupy. The smoked fish spread was good but nothing special. On a positive note, the waitstaff was friendly and efficient. I would go back for a cocktail and hush puppies.
