Took my wife to Seraphine for our anniversary dinner. Wanted to try a little bit of everything, but the Dragos style oysters stole the show. Incredible service every moment. Not a single complaint
From the greeting when we walked in to the farewell as we left, this restaurant was exceptional! Great atmosphere and tastefully decorated. Water was brought to the table immediately by one of the many pleasant floor staff and are waitress promptly followed. She went over drinks and specials, and the rose and oysters, (briny and perfect), were both delicious! We were going to DPAC for an event so we decided to have several appetizers instead of full meals, and we were not disappointed! The fried artichokes were amazing and the duck fat fingerling potatoes just made us smile. We had the escarole and lions mane next, both also very good. But the the banana pudding-to die for, and with a cup of black coffee, we could not have been happier! Absolutely great experience!
Very enjoyable meal. - Caesar salad with fried oysters was delicious. Gumbo was great and wine and beignets perfect. A tast of new orleans
When I called, they were very nice on the phone. And when we arrived, they were very friendly also. We enjoyed the Catfish, and Fried Oysters, and the peel and eat shrimp tasted fresh (not farm raised)
Our sever wax excellent and the food was great . We let our waiter know we needed to get to a show at DPAC at 730 and he was very obliging .
I am from Louisiana, so understand my review is in reflection of what I know of food from Louisiana (I grew up in the cajun area near Lafayette and Breaux Bridge). We ordered Broiled Oysters with Garlic and Parmesean. I enjoyed them - they are quite rich and the cheese alone could fill you up. My partner found shells in their oyster, I confirmed it was true. We also ordered the Boudin, which my guess is made in house, because it is different than what I have had back home. While ordering, I asked if the boudin was spicy, the server said No. Even though I grew up in La, I don't like tabasco / jalepenio type of spice. Unfortunately , it was spicy. We did manage to eat about half of it. I would have preferred it not be served on top of mustard and smothered with the pickled onions. I have never had boudin served that way my whole life. Had I realized that, I would have asked for it on the side. We ordered the crab dip ($24, but why not!), unfortunately they had just sold the last one. So, we ordered shrimp and grits. I have never seen a pink sauce on top of a shrimp and grits in Louisiana, so I had to ask what it was. Luckily it was just a tomato puree of sorts (bechamel type of sauce, but that is not what they called it). The grits were wonderful, the sauce was good. The shrimp were overcooked (even charred on the edges). The mushrooms seemed like they were formerly dried shiitake and were not rehydrated as well as could have been, but edible. I only mentioned the overcooked shrimp (which were not eaten, as well as a lot of the other shrimp and grits toppings) to the server. I did not expect or ask for compensation, but was surprised with how management handled it. Would I go back and try it again? Yes, but now I know what to ask for on the side. I would 100% order the grits again without the shrimp/bacon/mushroom toppings. The biggest pet peeve (which I can't hold against the restaurant) was that the server didn't know how to say "Boudin" the Louisiana way.
Seraphine is one of Durham's best restaurants and the service is always 110% outstanding. It is an amazing dining experience and I cannot recommend it enough.
Because restaurant prices have increased so much, we look for service and atmosphere when choosing. Seraphine hit it out of the park. Everything we ordered was excellent, and so was the staff. We shared that the experience was our first at the restaurant and, when asked, mentioned that we were treating our son, who had just earned his Ph.D. Within minutes, we were having a lively conversation with two staff members, who had also recently finished graduate degree programs. Then came glasses of champagne and a candle-topped dessert. I felt like we made new friends that night. Keep up the winning business model. BTW, the etouffee and the gumbo are highly recommended.
Great New Orleans food and great service You must have the gumbo!! And order the favorite New Orleans cocktail, a sezerac (sp)
The food was absolutely so thoughtful. Beautiful presentation, proportion and taste. Ya know when a cooking show suggests “layers of flavor”??? It was clear each dish delivered an exciting pleasurable surprise. Even something so basic as gumbo, that i make a home with a treasured recipe, had a flair to it that made it worth the position in the meal line up! Little things like a generous mint spring in a delicious mocktail, all of it was an eye to detail that said we care about your dining experience at every interval. Loved it, obviously. And will be going back when we visit Durham. I have never left a review like this before....

This is one of my very favorite places to eat in Durham. The Dragos Oysters are a must-have. Bartenders are great and eating at the bar is an excellent option. I love the outdoor seating when the weather is nice. Staff is wonderful overall. I love the gumbo, catfish, rabbit cavitelli, spinach salad, bbq shrimp, boudin sausage. The raw oysters are always good, but I keep getting the broiled dragos style oysters time and time again. So good!
