Actually wouldn't know if the cakes were good or not because the lady was so rude when I walked in I didn't bother to buy anything from her there's not much clarification as to what size the cakes are when you walk in I asked if they were the medium cakes cuz I've never been there before she snaps at me no those are for pre-order only so I clarified are these the ones that are four dollars and whatever change it is and she's like yes is there something I can help you with so I helped myself by leaving instead of spending my money was a snarky girl in an empty cake shop

Cupcakes are just as stale and nasty as their customer service! I’m glad it’s Girl Scout cookie season because i can get my sweet fix and never step foot in this hell hole again. Imagine being rude at a CUPCAKE BAKERY? Tried to address my concerns with the manager “Theo” and he was unconcerned and uncaring. Terrible cupcakes. Terrible people. Do not recommend. There are other more pleasant bakeries in the area, choose elsewhere!

If I could give this place a zero, I would. Please do not waste time and money going here because the quality of food and service are bad. I was sold moldy food and the manager did a piss-poor job of handling the situation, considering my health was jeopardized. This is the worst experience I ever had and I will never step foot into this place again.

I have yet to have a cupcake that I didn't like from Smallcakes. On this trip we had carrot cake, smores, chocolate cream, and toasted cheesecake cupcakes. Service was quick and she was happy to answer any questions. My favorite this day was the cheesecake cupcake. The frosting was a great texture, cake was moist, and the pieces of cheesecake were a nice addition. The chocolate cream was perfectly sweet. I'd head back for those 2 for sure.

Selected Smallcakes because of the reviews, and honestly, it was expensive with meh cupcakes and not great service. Ratio of frosting to cake is approximately 2:1 in favor of the cake, the flavor options are many but overall, and what the cupcakes lack in flavor, they make up for in sweetness--which is overwhelming. Went to pick up my order at assigned time (between 4:30 and 5:00 PM), it wasn't ready and the unfriendly person at the counter informed me that it was still 20 minutes until 5:00 PM ....?? The cost for regular cupcakes, 6 dozen was over 250.00 and now I regret the $20.00 tip that I added. I would recommend trying other places to anyone looking to place a large order.

I loved the atmosphere and customer service was good. I got the lemon drop and rum raisin cupcakes. I was a little disappointed that the icing on the lemon drop cupcake didn’t have any lemon flavor. Not saying the icing was bad…just expected more lemon flavor. The cupcake itself was really moist. The rum raisin cupcake was really good. I will go back and try more flavors.

I ordered 3 dozen mini cupcakes for a team appreciation party on Friday, Oct 27. When I arrived at the correct time to pick them up the young girl behind the counter could not find my order paperwork, then she found it and said, "Oh, this was accidentally placed in Saturday's orders". Can you come back in 2-3 hours? I explained that no, I could not, I live 15 miles away on the other side of Durham and I have a houseful of people coming soon. I asked if they could deliver them to me and she said no, they do not do deliveries. She went to the back of the store and came out and asked if I could come back in 45 minutes. I stated that I guess I had no choice and went and sat in my car for 45 minutes. I asked if could have some free cupcakes for the inconvenience since none were offered. She went to the back to ask and came back out and said yes. I picked out 3 regular sized cupcakes and asked her to put them with the other order. I came back in 50 minutes to pick up the cupcakes. The manager from the back came out and said, "Oh, did you get a free cupcake and pay for these other 2?" I said no, that she had given me 3 for free. She said nothing. Evidently she was the baker and the one in charge. While the young girl in front was apologetic the one in charge never apologized and never even looked at me. I carefully set the cupcakes in my car. When I got home I opened the boxes and almost all of the cupcake icing had slid off of the cupcakes. Only about 1/3 of them were usable. Overall this was a disappointing experience because many of the cupcakes were unusable and because of the manager not apologizing, asking me if I had paid for the free cupcakes and the fact that most of the cupcakes were unusable. I spent $68 and am really unhappy. I understand mistakes can happen but as the one in charge you sometimes have to lose money and do all you can to make things right for a paying customer. I own a small local business myself and I have always tried to make things right for my clients if a mistake is made. I am going to ask for a partial refund and see what happens. I will update this review with the response I receive.UPDATE: I received an email stating that no compensation would be made. As I read the rest of the 1 star reviews and how they blamed the customers for their bad experiences I am not surprised that they are offering no compensation. It is my own fault for not reading the reviews before spending $68 of hard earned money on unusable cupcakes. Had they responded in an appropriate, professional manner and made compensation in any amount or apologized I would have upgraded this review. They have not addressed why I received no offer of compensation for the order being put in on the wrong day in the first place and my having to sit in my car for 45 minutes.  They had the audacity to say that the cupcakes must have shifted in the car. The cupcakes were perfectly still in the car. The icing had slid off of most of them because they put icing on warm cupcakes. That is the truth and that is exactly what happened. I will not use or recommend this business to anyone. Appalling customer service.Parking: Free shared parking lot with Food Lion and other stores.

After weeks of enduring an ever-growing craving for red velvet, I stumbled upon Smallcakes while casually grabbing coffee nearby. Upon entering the shop you are quick transported to a whimsical dreamland full of sprinkles and tiny pleasures. The lady at the counter was warm and welcoming, patient as I made up my mind. As I ogled the beautiful case full of perfectly iced creations, the choice was clear. Red Velvet. I was given my chosen cake in a cute box, a great touch I believe! The cupcake was moist, appropriately textured, but not too moist, for it would fall completely apart. When you break open the cupcake it remains intact, and doesn't crumble or lose integrity, this is key. Frosting was perfectly sweet and balanced, with the deep notes of the cream cheese.If you seek a perfect cupcake, come here and try a few flavors. You will not be disappointed!!

We ordered a cake for my daughter’s graduation/ 18th birthday party. Smallcakes Durham did a phenomenal job accomplishing every detail we requested. Not only was it the most beautiful cake, it was incredibly delicious! It was super moist, too!

This is based on my experience today. I sometimes come here for a treat. My experience had been ok so far, but today I ordered cake slices and cup cakes. The person who attended to me went inside to pack the cake slices. It took a while before she came back out, actually many people had been waiting. This lady came out to tell me that unfortunately my cake ? slices fell and she would have to give a store credit or I can opt to take different cake slices. I told her I don’t like the other type, but I would rather take my money back. She told me that their store policy does not allow refund, even when it wasn’t my fault. I insisted I want my money back as I don’t want store credit or another cake. Eventually they gave me cash, excluding the tax I paid on the slices. Which means that I gave them about $5 for free(tax and tip). I can’t imagine the idea of store credit over a cake. Not even we are sorry came out of their mouth. I know you may have lots of customers, but you definitely need to work on your customer service.
