Service/Vibes: Rustic/homey/festive decor, has bar seating. Service was fine.
Food:
Brisket plate: Brisket was kinda inconsistent. Some of it was tender and moist, some was kinda hard and dry. Some of the potatoes were a touch undercooked, but crispy outside and well seasoned. The cabbage slaw was vinegary and a nice cut against the heaviness of the other food.
Gumbo: Seemed a bit on the salty side, but comes with a piece of very light, airy, and crusty bread

We found this place online after the one we planned to visit was overcrowded. I AM SO GLAD WE DID. They took reservations for 6, no waiting and the food was exceptional. There were only two people working so don't be in a hurry but to us it was all worth it. The Sangria was really nice on a hot day. We will be back.

First time here. We had Brisket, jambalaya and seafood gumbo (Friday is seafood). Everything was great - interestingly the brisket was best (surprised all three of us this was best)- tender, tasty and just great. Great service and relaxed/local atmosphere. Located in residential area - unique and local. Has patio.

My experience was with takeout. The gumbo was absolutely delicious. They aren't kidding around with their roux. Jambalaya was solid. Bourbon Cake was mouth-watering. Can't wait to try more off the menu.

I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately the food was underwhelming and the service was slow. It's a shame

Jay, in particular, is very helpful with his friendly service. If you're in North Carolina, don't leave without stopping by.

The food was delicious. In town for a track meet. We had our food delivered. One meal was brisket, one meal was the fried chicken and the other meal was fried shrimp. The coleslaw was different & very good!

We are long time Durham residents but this was our first time at Succotash, which has been open about 3 years. We were very impressed by the food. Outstanding brisket empanada (so expect the brisket entree to be similarly delicious), very tasty succotash, and terrific rice and beans. Good size servings, fair prices, and we love their support of the local music scene. Nice relaxed vibe overall but don’t let that fool you—they take their food seriously. Will absolutely return.
