I am a Gold Elite Marriott traveler and I have never stayed at a worse, more depressing property. It started with check in from a person who was completely overwhelmed by her job. We were the only ones checking in at night. We got locked out of one room with our luggage in the room! They could not fix the key to work...the battery died on the door? They had to call someone to come in...trying to open the door with a wire underneath which is what they ended up doing after several attempts. Our fans wouldn't turn off in the room. Loud. Dingy rooms. Terrible service. The next morning at the Starbucks bar the worker said "I'm the shuttle driver, so can you keep your order simple?" The person who checked us in was so overwhelmed and should not be working in that job. I reached out to the manager and left a message but haven't heard back. I would NEVER EVER recommend anyone stay here. Depressing. Run down. No service.
Comfortable stay while attending a conference. Room was typical average. The front desk staff was helpful. I forgot to pack my cell phone charger and the gentlemen at the front desk let my borrow a charger. Comfortable bed and overall a great stay.
Do not stay at this hotel if you want patio access and coffee early in the morning. My patio door open one time and then it will not open anymore with my belongings left outside. Coffee is not served till 7 AM. This is not a resort hotel. People are here on business. I’m sure they’ll be some type of a cookie cutter”I’m sorry “ response and I’m sure they will “look into the issue”. Yada yada yada.
Coffee was good but lacking in atmosphere and service

A very tired, dingy property. Mold on some of the shower/tub area. Furniture with nicks and cuts. Probably the cheapest in room coffee maker I’ve ever seen. While I don’t break out a “white glove” , there was dark dust built up on the white baseboards in the hallway and stairs. On the plus side the bed was comfortable and you could actually get a latte brewed in the lobby during breakfast hours. The staff was warm and pleasant.
I spent a week at the Courtyard Durham and had a wonderful stay. Everyone was super friendly especially the shuttle driver Vicki. It was meticulously clean and was well furnished and comfortable. Exercise room was well supplied with aerobic machines and free weights. I’ll be in Durham frequently and plan to return to the Courtyard!
I have stayed at two Marriott Courtyards in different cities lately and they were both very dumpy. This location was especially bad. The lobby is fine but the hallways, elevators and rooms are not worthy of Marriott branding. Filthy old carpet and walls, furniture all dented and dinged. No housekeeping service and the front desk has a big, awful looking blue laundry bin and they will hand you extra linens if you ask. This is so down market and low rent. I always used to trust the Courtyard brand as being a consistent quality suitable for what I would call - a not full service but business travel quality hotel. But OMG I will never stay at this location again and am very unlikely to stay at any Courtyard brand again. No offense to the workers who tried their best, but the place is like a cheap motel, not a hotel.
Great last minute stay. Pretty much sums up why we’re Marriott Bonvoy members. Friendly, helpful staff. Great pool. Big enough to throw a ball around and let the kids jump in. Rooms were comfortable and clean although pillows could use an upgrade. Got a few drinks from the bar, bar tender was chatty and friendly. Courtyard was clean with a nice fire pit to sit by. The green areas could use a bit sprucing up which seems to be a theme with our last few Courtyard stats. Overall we loved our stay and this was a solid property all around!
Our stay was nice enough - reception and room was clean, though the hotel is showing its age / looking tired. Staff were friendly. The only real disappointment was the pool - the reality is very far from the picture on their website as the pool did not feel clean - e.g. the floor of the pool felt slimey - we got in and promptly got out and showered.

Stay away from this property. The other negative reviews are true. It’s a franchisee that doesn’t care about the facility or guests. Hotel refuses to respond to my concerns and refuses to even respond to Marriott Guest Relations, for over two months. Original bathrooms with mold, peeling bathtub finishes, sour shower curtain, and clogged drain. Missing covers on guest room keypads. Snack pantry in lobby empty. Breakfast burrito was about the size of a Taco Bell product, and was over $10. Front desk staff had a negative comment when we were locked out of room (keypad had consistent issues reading certain keys). An old Courtyard product combined with no maintenance and bad management adds up to just what you would think - a guest experience to stay away from.
Checked in using up the last of my bonvoy points during what we found out was graduation weekend. We were bringing our oldest child to say goodbye to his mother over at UNC hospital. Room smelled like mildew & cigarettes; ice bucket had melted ice from the last guest; sink & mirror had toothpaste everywhere; no bulk amenities installed in our room. I informed the staff of the smell the next morning and was promptly delivered some air freshener as requested. Thank you for that. Front desk looked terrible. All sorts of things taped to the front desk shields. Fish bowls on every desk—one for key cards & one for business cards. Everything about the desk just looked sloppy. The girls at the desk sat during all interactions, except Trish/Patricia. I believe that was her name. She worked the Saturday night of graduation and was so kind to my family. The market was weak as far as beverages were concerned but my kids still found plenty of snacks to pick up. Only one lady in breakfast on Sunday morning. I had to wait forever for her to stop chatting and wiping tables to get a drink. The drink was quite wonderful after the weekend we had but I found it odd that her uniform consisted of black sweatpants & a t-shirt. Overall. The AC worked. The shower worked. Mobile key worked. There was ample parking. Doubles are doubles and not queens. There was no trash overflowing. The hotel seemed to be having staffing issues and hopefully that is what caused all of our problems. Housekeeping was friendly & apparently made our bed her you know what. She put those sheets on so hard that she ripped them clean down the stitches. Based off our 2 nights, I don’t believe I would choose this hotel again.
This is a cheap motel that milks guests because of the location proximity to a university. The front deak staff is indifferent in every regard. Even when you check in as 3 occupants on mobile & give ample warning, the number of towels is still dor 2 guests. A very simple thing to address, but even that they couldn't keep track of... Overall, if you don't have any alternative, then instead of sleeping in a tent in a parking lot, this could be considered as an alternative.
First of all the staff (what few I saw) are friendly and hard working and I do not blame them at all. Here’s the rub: this is more like a run-down motel. My balcony (who needs it?) overlooks the parking lot. I was startled out of deep sleep by a motorcycle without a muffler firing up beneath my window. I longed for the double pane glass of a Hampton Inn. The mattress was lumpy and thin, with well worn depressions from previous occupants. The “comforter” is really a box stitched bedspread. In the bathroom they PAINTED the bathtub instead of reglazing it. The toiletries look like they came from the dollar store. The cartridges for coffee did not fit the coffee maker. When I brought this to their attention they said ALL the coffee makers are like that and didn’t seem to get it that they ordered the wrong cartridges. The dirty stairwell was not addressed once during my four day stay. I would not recommend this place at all.
Never seems to be open. Stopped in the morning to get a double expresso and breakfast sandwich. Was told they were out of the sandwiches. Stopped next day to get a venti iced mocha was told they were out of chocolate but was offered the white chocolate sweetener as a substitute. But again out of the breakfast sandwich. Stopped this morning for a double expresso and the lady behind the counter said "how about a regular coffee instead" no mention of being out or anything just seemed like she didn't want to make it. Again no breakfast sandwich. If you are going to offer Starbucks amenities you should have them actually available for purchase. The hotel itself is nice. Clean and the staff have been great. Minus the Starbucks situation.
