We had a family gathering in Durham for a birthday party. We looked at Best restaurants on line and this was a top choice. It was an early dinner for 6 adults and 3 kids about 1 to 3. So we set a 8 person table setting. We selected outside as it was a beautiful 75 degree day. As we arrived we saw were going to be seated outside on 2 picnic tables that were anchored to the ground about 4 feet apart. So the whole group could not sit together. We had drinks and some appetizers until...
All was good. My husband ordered the short ribs, which he usually loves, but the meat was dry and tough. Since he has a medical condition making it hard for him to swallow sometimes, he wasn't able to enjoy his dinner as usual. Otherwise we enjoyed everything.
This is the first time we've had dinner at the Refectory, although we frequently eat lunch there. It was a totally different atmosphere than lunch, w the lighting, tables etc. No line to go through to order. The 2 appetizers, Arancini & Cheese platter were excellent as was my salmon. My husband had the Dal & didn't care for it also much. A friend had the salmon salad & liked it. We'd definitely go back for dinner
