As a girl from Louisiana, I am a food lover. We ordered from Shepherds as an off-season pre-order. The only way you can get it if it's not spring/summer. Ok..no problem. The food was so bland & tasteless. We got brisket, ribs, turkey and baked beans. It tasted like there was little very little seasoning on the meat. The brisket had more fat than meat on it. The beans had a strange taste. They had a bunch of chopped up vegetables in them and a sweet syrup taste. The turkey was ok. It was moist but that's the only thing it had going for it. We spend close to $60 (these were VERY) small portions. 2 ribs, a few slices of brisket and a few slices of turkey. Next time I will just go spend the money and make it myself.
Delicious food, beautiful outdoor seating area, definitely worth the trip!
This weekend was my first time ever eating there and OMG it was “slap your momma” good!!! I have the brisket, collards and street corn. It was ALL amazing. They give me another reason to go to the beach. And the owners are top notch!!!
Great place great food great people 100%
Really good food. Pulled pork, brisket, ribs, boss hwag sandwich, coleslaw and the Mac and cheese is delicious. You won't be sorry. But get there early. Fall hours only open Friday 11- 3 or sold out. The line began at 10:30.

A bbq place executing all menu items, especially their brisket and banana pudding, to the highest caliber! It’s great to see creative options on the menu outside of basic NC bbq like a Korean bbq pork belly taco or shrimp burger. Not everyone wants vinegar and pork every time.

I really had high hopes that the food was going to be great after all the good reviews I'd read about it, but honestly, I was more than dissapointed!! First of all the parking was terrible, it was so hot inside the restaurant we couldn't wait to get back outside after ordering. No ice for the drinks just a semi cold bottle of tea that was made worse by the heat inside. I got the pulled pork and brisket combo plate with beans and coleslaw. The beans were not cooked enough, flavor was ok just needed more time on the fire, the coleslaw was good, but the pulled pork and especially the brisket were way underseasoned. I hardly ever salt my food, but both desperately needed it!! I was just very underwhelmed with most of it, sorry, I know what good food tastes like and all but the coleslaw was far from it!!

Got the 2 meat platter here at Shepards BBQ with their Carolina gold sauce. The Brisket was incredibly flavorful and not dry at all. The bark and tenderness on the brisket was second to none. Pulled pork as per the cashiers recommendation was out of this world! For my two sides I went with the pimento mac and cheese and the baked beans. TEN OUT OF TEN ALL AROUND! Been coming to EI for 26 years and this is without a doubt one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Will definitely return on my next vacation.

The food was really fantastic. The portions were generous. We took our food to go, but one of the owners took some time to swing through the dining and waiting area. She engaged with clients, including my father in law. The menu was full without being long and complicated. We will be back!

Food was fine, but nowhere near the hype. Brisket lacked any smoke, sides lacked seasoning big-time. Poor attention to detail (dirty sauce tops, lack of salt shaker on most tables, etc.). Clearly relying on reputation instead of execution.
I grew up surrounded by Eastern North Carolina BBQ. I've lived in Tennessee for the past 12 years however and can certainly say I have missed well-made barbecue dearly. Shepherd definitely hit all the right points. Their brisket was fantastic and pulled pork juicy with plenty of flavor. Vinegar base sauce complemented the flavor and of course did not overwhelm. Their greens were definitely their best side. It's so easy to mess up but when done properly always compliments Barbecue.
Just be warned if you go on a hot day the building is small and certainly will be very hot. But I would definitely recommend checking this location out as I found their food to be fantastic.

My friends and I each got the smashed burgers with fries. There was no taste except for the pickles and the BBQ sauce we added at the table. That was 2 visits today, first time and last time.
Not to mention almost $60.00 for 3 sandwiches and 3 drinks !

This is the first and last time that I will be here. I saw many of the reviews and was excited to get a chance to try this place. It also said $10-20, which made it think it would definitely not be overpriced. However, the total was $75 for only 3 people, which is excessive. Nicer BBQ restaurants are even cheaper than this. Sure, the food was good, but definitely not worth $25 per person. The service was mid. Go to Bogue House instead.
