Fatz Cafe - Franklin

The service was great, but the food was terrible. We ate it, because we were on the road and hungry.My chicken fried steak had way too much breading and was way overcooked. Just a huge mass of crust. Mashed potatoes were saturated with garlic. Surprisingly the green beans were very good.My son's steak was supposed to be cooked medium. It was well done and had no seasoning.My wife said the ribs were OK, but the Mac and cheese was terrible and fried okra was the worst she's ever eaten.I hate to leave such a negative review, because the place was clean and the staff was friendly. But the food was awful. As in.....sick to your stomach after eating it awful.

I've always had excellent service here. Chicken and Dumplings are a newer item. Well I love them. Not these. To runny, peas hard. Odd taste. The server apologized. I'm sure it will be better next time. ?

07/06/2023 @ 7 pm - First timers to Fatz Cafe. We are passing through on our way to Gatlinburg from Florida. Our server, Ms. Doreen was great and very personable. You could tell she is passionate about her customers and wants only the best experience for them. She is a busy gal taking care of her customers, but she also makes and takes the time to make sure you are taken care of. The fresh warm pretzel like bread with cinnamon butter was really good and The fried mushrooms appetizer is lightly breaded. We also had Calabash chicken strips (little spicy), the all you can eat short ribs and the Grown-Up Grilled Cheese with tomato soup. I gave the food 4 stars because the Grown-Up Grilled Cheese was good, but the Texas Toast was more on the soggy side in the middle. It could have been because of the amount of cheese that it is loaded with. I wasn't able to eat all of it. ~ Thank you Ms. Doreen! Stay safe and make sure you get back to the island for a visit.☀️?

The restaurant itself stinks. Literally. The server Kimberly kept setting down plates, drinks and HOT Food down in front of a one year old. Instead of walking two foot in the other direction. Reckless behavior.My husband had the Surf and Turf. The steak had no flavor and barely any shrimp. The calabash shrimp I had was cooked on point. The sides were not hot and looked old. The side salad was an upcharge without me being told. I don’t mind , but inform me. That’s your job. The best thing on the table was the bread and the Cajun Firecracker Sticks. It’s like an egg roll with cheese and a little pop of flavor. Those were very tasty. Our table was not prebussed as it should have been, especially as slow as it was. We’ll pass.

Was told 15-20 minute wait, the kitchen was behind and they apologized for that, ok, great no problem. While waiting we were approached by a man who told us they’ll tell you 15-20 minutes, but I waited 50 minutes for a table and then only because I questioned why the long wait did we get seated. When people randomly approach you with information like that believe them and leave. We didn’t take that advice and waited 40 minutes and my husband went in and noticed everyone even parties that had come in behind us had already been seated but our pager #20 had never gone off. The only pagers waiting were 27 and 28. 20 wasn’t even on the list and after being questioned why we hadn’t been called the host eventually feebly tried to use the excuse he had previously paged us. We left and won’t return. Fatz has problems, it starts as soon as you enter the door and if the host at the door is to be believed the problems continue with the kitchen running behind. Save yourself some time and go somewhere else.

I was about to use the ketchup on our table when I realized it was very dirty around the ring of the bottle where it hadn't been wiped off. So I grabbed one from the table next to us. It was the same way. Please make sure you are wiping the bottles down at the end of the shift.

It is hard to get waited on. Good is hit or miss. The other day, the fish and chips (whatever they call it) were very greasy. Had a burger and fries before i left Franklin. That was very tasty.

If you have a big appetite and like VERY tasty food and don't mind excessive salt this is the place for you. Went on Mother's Day at 4 o'clock and the wait for a table was about 15 minutes, not bad for a place as popular as this. I had the Chopped Steak and my better half had the Shrimp and Grits. Both were excellent! Never saw a desert menu; maybe my oversight. Service was very polite and FAST.

We’ve been travelling from out of town for three days and staying at the hotel next door. We stumbled upon this restaurant as it was close. We are so thankful because we ate there three nights in a row. Doreen is amazing and deserves a raise! Home cooked meals served with a smile and professionalism. She is such a sweetie! We never went home hungry. I must have gained 10 pounds in two days.

We came through town later than most places stayed open. Fatz was open and I’m glad we stopped. We started off with dinner rolls and honey butter. They were delicious. Our service was good and all of our dishes were great. We would definitely stop again if we find ourselves in this area.

We were a party of four we were quickly received when we entered and promptly seated. The restaurant was well-lit and were able to speak with our indoor voices. Our waitress was very friendly and courteous to us. Our drinks were brought to us and I order was promptly taken. Our food was brought to us in a timely manner it was well-prepared and all our foods or delivered hot and tasted very good. Highly recommend this restaurant to any new visitors to the area.

Had dinner there on Valentine's Day, it was quite enjoyable. I had the jumbo shrimp, and my friend had salmon and shrimp dinner. It was very good.

They are currently having a staffing issue which does create a wait time HOWEVER at least 95% of the staff they do have are amazing, friendly, and very caring. The food is very good. I love that the walls are filled with old pictures celebrating our town and its heritage. The lights over the small tables can be a little bright so I recommend trying to sit in a bigger booth if possible where the lights are a little less bright.

I went one day last week with my mother and a friend of ours and we ordered our food and the 5 tables that came in after us order after us and they got there food before we did. The the lady that was helping us keep saying it was the two cooks that was doing it. And she did not check on us. We had to ask someone else for rmore drinks. It's good food but they need to pay attention.

Wheelchair accessibility: It needs to have more places for people in wheelchairs.
