The food experience at the Acropolis Restaurant in Greensboro NC was average. The lunch menu offers a variety of Greek dishes, offering solid price and food choices. The atmosphere is average, staff working hard, food is average. The lentil soup was very tasty, feta cheese good, and the gyros was ok. The meat did not meet my gyros expectations. The vegetables were good. My score 4.1.

We stopped in around 7:30 last Friday after seeing a movie and had one whole side to ourselves. Maybe the weather warnings kept people away. It was our first visit. I had my favorite Greek chicken with vegetables and Greek salad. So much food I took home leftovers for Saturday. Our waitress was helpful and friendly. Greek decorations were nice.

Acropolis has been a favorite of mine for decades. My go to is the tiropita dinner with avgholemeno soup and a glass of retsina wine. For dessert, galaktoboureko.

On Saturday I took my Mom, niece, and nephew here for dinner after a performance downtown. Was wanting to show the kids there are different types of food other than cheeseburgers. Our server was very pleasant, patient, and helpful! The food was prepared quite well and in a timely manner. The “side salads” were very well made and a decent portion with more than just lettuce. I will be back!

Best Greek food I’ve had in a long time, highly recommend
As someone who used to live about 15 minutes from Tarpon Springs (FL), I can certainly attest to what authentic family-cooked Greek food really is. Although I’m not Greek myself, I have friends and coworkers who are and everyone would always bicker about which restaurant in Tarpon Springs tasted most like their mom’s or grandma’s. Since moving from FL, it has been seemingly impossible to find the true Greek flavor until today when my search for Greek cuisine landed me at Acropolis. I would have rated this restaurant with 5 stars had it not been for the welcome, or lack of one. We were told from someone at the back of the restaurant, “she will be with you in a minute.” About 30 seconds later, a woman walked up, grabbed two menus and proceeded to walk into the dining room and literally threw the menus on the table. We weren’t even asked to follow her but did just out of habit. She continued walking beyond the table and turned around and pointed and said “you can sit there.” Based on the sign at the entrance that said they do not accept parties greater than 4 people due to staff shortages, I was a bit leery of what was to come. And after the welcome by the woman who also ended up being the waitress, I was super inclined to leave and go elsewhere, even though there were only two other tables seated. We were very happy to have stayed because the food was absolutely delicious and very true to authentic Greek cuisine. The portions were generous and fairly priced. If the service had been much more welcoming and pleasant, I would give this restaurant an A+ rating. I would certainly consider returning especially since I have so many family members who also love truly authentic Greek food however I would not hesitate to walk out if we were greeted in the same fashion as today.
