Love this place yes it's expensive but it's worth the bloody expense
The restaurant was not too crowded, the food was amazing, our waitress was very sweet, and the prices were fair for the amount of food. I definitely recommend this restaurant!
I’ve been to this Gyu-Kaku location at least 10 times since it opened, always in groups of 4–6 friends. We even got to know the owner.
But this past Saturday left us deeply disappointed: we found a fly 🪰 in our soup.
The staff’s initial response? A 5% discount. That’s right—5% for serving soup with a fly in it. We were stunned. That doesn’t even cover the minimum tip.
When we asked to speak to the owner, he launched into a long justification about how a bowl of soup isn’t worth much, that it’s a buffet so we should be satisfied with 5%, and said, “I have no problem eating a fly myself.” He even told us not to make a scene because we were hurting his business, and that he “didn’t need our table anyway.”
After pushing back, we got the discount increased to 20%, but the entire exchange was rude and dismissive.
And unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time we’ve had issues here. Service for our table was often noticeably slower than others, and portion sizes looked smaller. On a previous visit, the same owner told me—a young Asian woman—that studying was pointless, and that the only way I could secure immigration status here was by marrying a rich man over 40. Completely inappropriate and demeaning.
We kept quiet in the past, but after this latest incident, it feels important to speak up. The food might be fine, but don’t expect accountability, basic respect, or fair treatment here.
The food at Gyu-Kaku Greensboro was alright at best. Did very much enjoy the short ribs, and pork belly was my absolute favorite. The high amount you pay for the small portions is a bit disappointing. The atmosphere is good and cooking the items yourself with friends was a great experience. Somewhat felt like the waitress was going to put us in timeout for having too much fun 😅
This restaurant was outstanding. Our waiter Grelia was amazing and attentive. She helped me and my wife with the menu. Very knowledgeable, which is always a great thing. Great experience.
The place is super cute and the service is great. Now we feel like we're in a refrigerator: the cold air was too strong and unnecessary (it wasn't even hot outside). We left really quickly to avoid getting sick.
We chose to try the small dishes instead of the Japanese barbecue and we didn't particularly like the food. Except for the spicy tuna volcano and the shrimp with pepper and mayonnaise, the rest really tasted either too spicy or didn't go well together. For example, the Gyu sushi, which is sushi with meat, doesn't make sense. You try to eat it with the meat, but it falls apart, the meat is big and difficult to break up in your mouth (I had to ask for a fork and knife because I couldn't eat it).
Amazing food, amazing staff especially Rhain he was nice and funny. I’m still sitting in the restaurant typing this up. 10/10 would come back ASK FOR RHAIN !!! 🥰
Fantastic! Try the beer tower!
We chose Gyu-Kaku to celebrate my wife’s birthday on March 1st, as it’s her favorite restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. Despite making a reservation and noting the special occasion, service was painfully slow. Our food didn’t come out together, and we waited an unreasonably long time for the raw meat while our side dishes got cold. One side dish was even forgotten until we had to remind the server, and to top it off, we had no utensils or plates for a good portion of the meal.
The biggest letdown was the portion sizes—much smaller than what we’ve received on past visits. For over $90 for two people, we expected a satisfying meal, but we left hungry. This is unacceptable for the price and reputation of Gyu-Kaku.
We’ve had great experiences here before, but this visit was frustrating and far from what we expected. Extremely disappointing for a special occasion.
I wish I could say I had a great experience; however, we NEVER got the chance to sit down. They were so extremely overbooked on Valentine’s Day. We had a reservation for 9:30. We waited for 40 minutes IN LINE (to just check in) with everyone else who had 9:15/9:30 reservations. In line, the manager (obviously worried about bad reviews, as everyone was annoyed) announced that they were very very behind and she’d offer us all a free drink. My boyfriend and I, being 19 and 20, were at the very front and starving (we had one meal the entire day, as he had reserved us the all you can eat 90 minute meals). I call her attention and tell her we are underage. She laughs. at. me. as if I was asking for a drink (why would I do that, I’m literally informing her we’re not 21)- after she laughs, I say “I’m asking if we can have anything else on the house, since we aren’t of drinking age”. She asks me if we want apple juice and laughs again. This was extremely disrespectful. I couldn’t believe the nerve of this lady, who overbooked her own restaurant and made many many couples wait in a line to simply check in for their own reservations (almost an hour behind). Many people canceled right then and there, seeing the line, leaving them stranded on Valentine’s Day. We still wanted to talk to the front desk, to see the wait time. Once we got to the front, forty minutes later mind you after we got there, we ask what the wait will be. It’s around 10:10 at this point, and he says it’ll be an hour. I ask, when does the restaurant close, and he says 12, then says 11. I inform him how we bought the 90 minute ($120 total) meals and ask if we will get the full time, or if we’d have to leave after 30/40 minutes because of closing. He honestly, (I’m thankful he told us), says his manager will likely have us leave when they close, making us not even get half of the time we paid for. I cancel it then and there and we are left trying to find a place to eat on Valentine’s Day. My boyfriend had booked a week and a half in advance, and had been looking forward to this day for a long time. We ended up going to Wendy’s because of this restaurant’s terrible service, organization, and management. I am extremely disappointed and annoyed that this restaurant decided to take profit over literal planning. Will not be coming back.

My wife and I went here for our anniversary a couple years ago on a whim and now we go here for our anniversary every year. They have tons of options is bundles and are always running seasonal specials. Jack the hostess is always warm, welcoming and kind!
This wasn't my 1st time here but it was my 1st time with service as bad as it was. 1. They over booked with reservations for multiple reservations.
2. We were served soup with no spoons and when we asked for spoons we were told they were all out of spoons would we mind metal spoons. So you were aware you didn't give us a spoon but chose to wait til we waited 10 mins for you to come back to acknowledge it. 3. The waiter was by far the most disconnected unfriendly slow person. 4. The question on if we had been there before and yet no one explained the process to us at all or even asked if we had questions. 5. We were served extra rice, which we didn't know it was extra ..... it was sitting there over 20 mins and we had ate from it and the server came and took it back .... like it was our fault.
Fantastic! We have a severe food allergy and the manger and serve answered all our questions and made us feel very comfortable eating there. Server was very attentive, knowledgeable on all menu items. Food was delicious! Will be back.
Came on vday overbooked and busy af however even though service was a little delayed it was good when it came
Everything is brought to the table uncooked and you have to cook it yourself over the grill in the middle of the table. Great tasting food and a unique experience. Prices were a little higher than I like but that's me.
