We were headed to Morehead for dinner, but an unexpected road closure sent us back toward Harkers Island. We decided to stop at The Fish Hook Grill, and honestly, it felt like divine intervention.
From the warm, welcoming atmosphere to the genuine Down East local charm, everything about this place was spot-on. The service was top-notch—Heather and her team are hardworking, kind, and truly wonderful people.
Now for the star of the show: the food. I ordered the blackened mahi and shrimp, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked—dare I say even better than what we cook at home!
We loved it so much, we’ve already told our entire family. This place is a gem, and we highly, highly recommend it to anyone near Harkers Island.

I took my son, nephew, and my father there last Saturday evening. We each ordered an entrée. The server was new they say. I ordered a mixed drink and a tequila. Dad ordered a beer. When it was almost empty, he ordered a replacement. The server came back and insisted he must finish his first before he would replace it. That doesn't mean much to me but it pissed him off. He was gonna hand off the empty when he delivered it anyway. They blamed it on the law. Which I understand. One drink on the table at a time. No biggie. But, I had two drinks at the same time. It was just getting started. Most items on the menu had no price. But, I was still a bit surprised when they brought the bill for $170, and proceeded to rush us out the door. The food was good but the prices they are charging don't line up with the service and overall experience. I may go back but it will be a while. It is a small place so it seems to me they are trying to make the most they can per person and turn the tables quickly. If it were my restaurant, I'd do the same. But the experience would at least be worth it!

Over priced. Portions and quality do not match the price. Save your money for a better experience. We came here about two years ago and it was a better experience. We got this to go and what a disappointment. Another place in the area that took a dive.

The fish here to cooked to perfection! I had a flounder sandwich and it was extremely fresh and well breaded. My only criticism is that the fries were nothing special, but the excellent seafood was more than enough to ignore it.

What an awesome little place to catch lunch while you are in the area. Local, fresh, and friendly. We got togo food before we went on Cape Lookout for three days and then went and sat down for lunch when we got back to the main land! Both experiences were fantastic! The cook who prepared my blackened scallops should get a raise! He cooked them to perfection. Our server was fantastic and the bartender was very sweet with our young girls. Love to support local business and this one is a gem! Don’t miss it!

This was by far the best meal we've had in the area since we bought a place down here in February. We've eaten at multiple places in beaufort and morehead city but the food just hasn't been good. We got the blackened Shrimp and the Buffalo shrimp wrap and they were both amazing. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The service was quick and the people were extremely friendly. Our only regret is not eating here sooner.
