The food was delicious and the drinks were good. We had clam chowder that had a lot of flavor and clams, coyote oysters, the fresh catch tuna as an appetizer and the tuna appetizer on menu. These were great. The crab mac and cheese was not good, it had very little seasoning but it had a good amount of crab.

The food was pretty good!
The service was lacking. They added gratuity to any table with 6 people and over. I feel like the waiter didn’t really try. Our drinks did not get filled.
The atmosphere was very bar feeling. They had babies at the bar with people drinking. There was live music, but it was way too loud. You couldn’t even have a conversation at our table.

Ate here tonight. Pretty place, server seemed on top of things, knew all the specials well. Service was slow - took a long time to get drinks. Food was a little better - apps came quicker but entrees took quite a bit longer. Seemed understaffed. A woman brought our entrees (a GM?) and apologized for the wait. I ordered the filet - sides on the menu were roasted potatoes and asparagus. I got a nicely cooked MR filet - barely warm, some mashed potatoes - mostly cool to cold, and green beans/carrots - also cold. It took a while for anyone to ask how our meal was - by the time the server got there I had eaten about half the filet and a few bites of the sides. He was apologetic and said he could bring new sides. I took him up on the green beans but also mentioned the discrepancy between the menu and the plate. He had no explanation - just apologies. Our meal was not cheap and my food was not what I ordered and was mostly cold. No explanation, no communication from management. On our way out we overheard a fairly angry man (In the parking lot) complaining that he hadn't been believed that his food was cold!

I gave two stars because my husband, who had one of the specials, said his food was very good. But we will not return.

We accidentally found this place and boy are we glad we did! The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. I wanted a pasta dish but it sounded too spicy with andouille sausage and creole sauce. After assurances that it would not be too spicy I ordered scallop ravioli in a cheese creole sauce. YUMMY!!!! Ask for a spoon. You’ll want sauce with every bite. Oh I didn’t mention the She Crab Soup which is in the top 3 of what we have ever had. Delicious! We took a bowl home. Then dessert (I posted a picture). A donut crusted with honey served with raspberry ice cream and glazed peaches. We shared but should have gotten two - who knew? One of the best meals and meal experiences we’ve had thanks to Drew our server. Will definitely go again.

Atmosphere is great, nice views on the deck. Food was so so, shrimp overdone, fries cold upon arrival, gummy mashed potatoes, veg medley was a bit over/under depending on which veg it was. server who was also the bartender obviously didn’t want to be there, had to ask if there were specials, what came with those mains. Etc. I dunno, we really liked it a few years ago, hopefully this was just an off night.

We had a party of 6 and there was a 35 minute wait. The waitress was very kind, the food was okay. I got the Cajun Scallop Tortellini and it was pretty good. Someone else at our table also got the Cajun Scallop Tortellini but hers was very salty. My husband got the 16 oz Steak Frites and a quarter of the steak was just fat. He asked for it to be cooked medium and it was cooked rare. He said it tasted good but not even close to the best steak he's ever had. 2 people at the table ordered the Clams Linguine and they both said that it sucked and the noodles were the worst they've eaten in a while. They said it was just watery noodles with white wine poured at the bottom of the plate. The clams and linguine lacked flavor and overall the 2 people who ordered it were very disappointed. It was $103 for my food and my husband's and we got 1 mixed drink and 1 soda. Definitely not worth the $103. Also there's a mandatory gratuity for a party of 6 or more and the waitress was very busy the whole time. I recommend Ketch 55 in Avon, NC it was miles better in flavor and good quality food and price.

Been going to Breakwater for 25 years and by far the worst meal I have had during that time.

After enjoying sunset drinks on the deck overlooking the breakwater on the gorgeous Pamlico Sound, we enjoyed a tasty dinner of crab cakes and soft shell crabs. Our server, Laya, was outstanding in her attentiveness and friendliness. The key lime tart for dessert was the perfect ending to a delightful dining experience at The Breakwater at Hatteras.

Atmosphere was beautiful on the deck. Food left MUCH to be desired. We got the crab cakes that were more filler than anything and clam pasta which was plain. Vegetable sides tasted like the frozen warmed in the microwave. Crab dip was more cream cheese than anything that didn’t come with enough bread crisps. Service was good and we were seated quickly at 5:30pm.

We were excited to eat here again after enjoying it ALOT last year. Left disappointed.

I had the Yellowfin Catch of the Day and my wife had the Filet and Crab, both were cooked perfectly and delicious! Our server Laya was prompt, kind and made an excellent recommendation to get the tuna Medium Rare! We will definitely be back on future trips to the OBX!
