3 out of 4 of us didn't enjoy the food. Server barely spoke English.
Food was AMAZING! We all got a different meal to share and we were not disappointed with any choice. The crepes were out of this world! They were light but full of flavor without being too sweet. The savoriness of the cinnamon in the batter was the extra spark to top it off.
Service was also very quick (and the restaurant was packed full). The prices were very reasonable for the amount of food you get. Would definitely recommend visiting while you are here on vacation!!!
Food was good but it costed more than what the menu said. Like 50 cents per item. I recommend the popeye burrito
A good breakfast option for a Sunday morning when other local restaurants aren’t open. The food was really good and the service was attentive. Has a few outdoor proms for dog friendly people! I had pancakes with eggs and bacon and an apple juice, price point was about $20 for one person.
Overall 8/10
I got the biscuits and gravy with hashbrowns. It was all very good. Sweet tea was really good too
Very home style vibe and the breakfast was solid. Chilaquiles were so good! Reminded me of Sunday mornings when my mom would whip them up for us. The chorizo omelette was good too. Idk what type of salsa they use on the omelette but drown everything with that and you’ll leave happy. Staff is very sweet and helpful.
We waited almost 20 minutes for our table to be bussed & our order to be taken. That should’ve probably been a sign to go somewhere else, but we figured a few biscuits and hash browns couldn’t possibly take that long. Wrong, we waited over an hour for our food to be delivered (one item at a time & without utensils). No one checked on us during the hour to refill drinks or update us on the wait. Food was fine, but we were so hungry we wouldn’t have complained if they gave us a pack of saltine crackers. While we waited on our food, people were placing to-go orders & receiving their food within 20/30 minutes. Maybe hold off on to-go orders if you can’t handle fulfilling the in-house orders.
The loaded hash browns were EXACTLY what I needed this morning. The service was quick, and the food was amazing. If we were local, we would come back, but we highly recommend trying this place.
I came to BlackBear due to limited food options in the area. Called beforehand, and when asked, someone said they could make items without meat, dairy, or egg. Once I got there we were sat and the server that sat us immediately pulled out pen and paper and stared at us expectantly. I said we needed some more time to look at the menu before we ordered and she said “for drinks?” All in all very rude and impatient for seemingly no reason. I ordered the California burrito with no sour cream or queso. My boyfriend who eats eggs but no dairy ordered a veggie omelette. We both ordered a side of hash browns. The food took 25 minutes to come out, and mine came with sour cream. I sent it back and the server seemed extremely annoyed. My boyfriend thought he saw cheese in his omelette, so he flagged down another server to ask if there was cheese in his dish. She said “yes” and turned around and left before he could say anything else. The burrito finally came, and our original server came out and claimed there was no cheese in the omelette. The burrito was mediocre, as was the omelette, the hash browns were good but I found two pieces of meat (ham?) in mine. I hate leaving bad reviews, especially for small businesses, but for fellow vegans traveling in the highland area don’t come here, it’s not worth it.
Came here for lunch because there weren’t any other options. Called beforehand and the person who answered said there were things that could be made without meat or dairy. When we got there our server was extremely rude from the moment we sat down. Ordered two dishes with modifications and our server seemed very annoyed by us asking for modifications. Food was slow to come out and when we got it one of them still had sour cream on it, and the other appeared to have cheese. The dish with sour cream was remade and I asked a different server if the other dish had cheese and she said yes, then our server came and took it before returning a minute later saying there was actually no cheese. Most of the food was mediocre, the one bright spot was the hashbrowns were great. Would absolutely not recommend anyone go there though, especially not anyone who is vegetarian or vegan.

A great selection of both Mexican and American breakfast items, made fresh and served hot. The staff was friendly. My one negative: the booths are not very comfortable or well made, and you feel every move your neighbors make in the booth behind you. (Like the kid in the seat behind you on the airplane who keeps kicking the seat or banging on the seat tray).

Stopped once to grab a lunch sandwich To Go, and realized we needed to return. Returned the next day for brunch, and was not disappointed. Service was quick, efficient, and personable. I enjoyed the Huevos Rancheros and my husband, the Tacos a la Brisa. Both were quite tasty, and filling. If I lived in town, this would definitely be a “go to” spot.

What an awesome place! Unassuming from the outside, but the service, food, and atmosphere were perfect. Loved the omelettes, the grits had great flavor, and the hash browns were crispy but not dry. We’ll be back!
