Highlander Mountain House & The Ruffed Grouse Tavern

Arrived in an ice storm. The staff arranged to feed us for every meal since everything was closed and made us feel extra cozy. What could have been a disastrous weekend was a lovely weekend in our private manor home.

While we (Pat and Lisa) are frequent guests at both the Highlander and the Outpost and always enjoy our stays, I (Lisa)want to send special thanks to two employees who made my stay worry free this past weekend after a snowfall. I enjoyed chatting with Deanna while I enjoyed the complimentary and delicious banana bread and coffee while waiting for the roads to clear before check-out. She offered an extended check- out, if needed. Deanna added extra logs to the fire to keep the sitting area cozy and relaxing. And then there was Dave, the inn’s chef, who saw me maneuvering my exit from the parking lot. He came outside ,on his own, and offered assistance- much appreciated! As I told several first-time guests before a delicious dinner at the Ruffed Grouse, your first visit will not be your last!

We really enjoyed our stay at Highlander Mountain House. You can tell that a lot of thoughtful design and curation went into the property & rooms both internally & externally. We stayed for two nights over New Year's Eve. The property & town were lively and well decorated for the holidays. The staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming. Will definitely come back for a weekend getaway in the future.

The Highlander Mountain House was absolutely beautiful and the stay was amazing. The staff members we met were all incredibly friendly as well. We would definitely go back to stay again the next time we’re up in Highlands.

Alicia, our server was fabulous, the atmosphere so lovely, and the food is amazing! The sweet potato mousse is DiVINE! We come here every time we are in Highlands we come here. It was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday!

Cozy and quaint; one of my favorite spots to stay in Highlands! The staff is so friendly and helpful; booked through Expedia, who messed up the reservation—Sherry at HMH resolved the problem for me so I recommend booking directly through the hotel. Can’t wait to visit again!

We had an amazing time . The Highlander Mountain house was a beautiful place to stay with clean and cozy rooms . The staff is very friendly and the food / dinner and drinks were delicious. The shops are within walking distance so the location is perfect . We can’t wait to come back next year .

Historic Inn right on main street. Rooms are small but cozy. Great fireplace and gathering room. Free coffee and pumpkin bread which was fantastic

We've been staying at the HMH for many years and highly recommend it. It's quaint, charming, and feels like you are staying at the home of a well-traveled friend. The wood-burning fireplace in the lobby is our favorite spot to sit with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The Ruffed Grouse is also wonderful - be sure you make your reservation in advance to get a spot. We prefer the main house to the bunkhouse, but the bunkhouse is probably best if you are looking for a more private get away. The main house is abuzz with people coming and going, which we prefer. We've met people there from all over the world at HMH. The only reason we did not give five stars is primarily because we had a few issues that while they were quickly resolved, were a bit of an inconvenience for the short period of time we were there. Jason and his team do a wonderful job!

Great Mountain Inn, situated right on Main Street of Highlands, many walkable shops and restaurants are close by. Accommodations are fantastic, very warm and cozy atmosphere.
Will def book a return trip!!

We attend a Kendall Marvel show and loved it. The atmosphere was amazing and the staff was friendly. It was like sitting in someone's living room with friends listening to great music. Highly recommend!

The team at the highlander house have provided the best service we could ever ask for. Coming as newlyweds, my wife and I loved the quaint, cozy rooms and intimate common areas. The staff is the most accommodating we have ever seen, helping us with rides and recommendations throughout highlands. Finally, I cannot speak highly enough for their dinner service. The food at the ruffed grouse was phenomenal, and left us excited formour next trip to the mountains. I cannot say enough about the experience we had, and would recommend highlander mountain house to anyone wishing to experience the best service in the highlamds

This was the perfect fall getaway! We stayed in room 5 and it was absolutely gorgeous- love the blend of antiques and modern finishes. The staff was absolutely wonderful, so kind and happy to help us with whatever we needed during our stay.
