Had a very enjoyable stay at the Highlander Mountain House. It is very well decorated and quite cozy. The bed was very comfortable with fresh linens. A place I will definitely return to in the future.

Our table of 11 was served quickly and our food was amazing! The bar did an amazing job, and the food was probably the best I had on my vacation. The service was bar none! Would 100% recommend!

My wife and I recently stayed at the Highlander for a wedding weekend. The location to Main Street, restaurants, shops and Old Edwards Inn and properties was very convenient and close by within walking distance. We were pleased with the close location to all wedding activities for the weekend. However, upon arrival to the Highlander, we checked into our room only to discover that we were placed in the basement room in the bunkhouse. It was very tight quarters with not even enough room to open a suitcase on the floor. The room was too small for a couple to maneuver comfortably around in. We also experienced extreme humidity with no dehumidifier in the room. The room, while cool, was so humid that the sheets and bed comforters felt wet and were not comfortable to sleep in. My husband and I did not sleep well the first night and ended up leaving the window open the rest of the weekend to let out the humid air from the basement room. We ended up sleeping on top of the bed duvet cover with a blanket due to the sheets feeling too damp to sleep under. Additionally, the WiFi did not reach our room for the majority of the stay. If an option, I would look at other hotels around the area.

We recently had a rehearsal dinner and then welcome party for 120 people. The Ruffed Grouse was perfect. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. I highly recommend!

We absolutely loved our weekend stay here!! Everything was clean, nice, and a great atmosphere. We had lunch and listened to live music that was wonderful as well. Staff was extremely friendly, location is walkable to everything. We were here for a wedding but would love to come visit again and stay here! Can’t recommend enough!

Very nice place to stay in Highlands

We’ve been multiple times and it’s time for all of the furniture to be upgraded in the common areas, especially the atrocious couch and chairs in front of the fire.

Also, friendliness and hospitality of the staff is lacking. Not a customer service-minded crew…

These items need to be addressed before we consider a return.

We came in a day early on Christmas eve. We saw that there were rooms available online at $190 per night. We went in, which was our fault that we did this but booked a room at the desk instead of online. They charged us $500! Being tired from driving 12 hrs, we didn't say anything. We go up the creeky wooden stairs to our second room floor which was difficult having large bags and a large dog..,room was nice with a comfy bed but we were surprised to see several bugs in the room. After the 3rd one we took to the front desk and was told it's to be expected, it's an old building and was offered a 10% discount which we never got because I feel it should have been more. I feel that because we were walk ins, we were taken advantage of and they jacked the price up 100 percent. Lesson learned.

We love the ambiance of the Highlander Mountain House. However, for the price-point, there are a few things lacking. The main lobby is cozy with a lovely fire, however the sofa has been missing its original cushions for at least the three years that we have been going there. It leaves the sofa very deep, uncomfortable and hard to get up and out of. We've heard lots of complaints from other guests sitting there. The other two chairs in that lobby have also seen better days with peeling leather and worn bottom cushions. This is not the equivalent of rustic charm as we were told when we mentioned it to the receptionist. For the comfort of the guests, the sofa and chairs should be replaced. Also, our bunk room had no dresser. There was ample room for one on two walls. We were two women staying for three nights with barely a place to store our clothing. It would cost very little to add a dresser and would make a tremendous difference. Again, when mentioning it, we were told about the age of the building and "rustic-charm". That has nothing to do with the functionality of the room. Storage is a basic need of customers and it would be so easy to add a dresser. The rooms are small, so unpacking efficiently is important. We ended up leaving most of our belongings in the car. We love the HMH and plan on returning. We do wish they would address these issues. It would make for a much more comfortable stay. You can't beat the location though.

Although my husband and I only took a peek at one of the queen rooms on the first floor of the main house, which was adorable, I can’t rate the rooms. I can say, I’ve put the Highland Mountain House on my list of inns for a return visit.

The tavern however, I can highly recommend. The attention to detail is evident from the moment you enter. The entire space is cozy and welcoming. The ambient lighting, fireplace, and Thursday’s live blues music all added to the charm.

My husband and I chose to sit at the bar where we listened to music, sipped a beverage, and shared a lovely Angus beef filet entrée w/ puréed potatoes, charred broccolini, mushrooms and Demi while chatting with Adriana, our bartender, who was attentive, personable, and made an excellent bourbon sour 🤗.

The Ruffed Grouse Tavern had a relaxed vibe that welcomed locals and visitors alike. Definitely a place to return, for a cocktail, a fireside chat, a bit of live music, or a delicious meal.

Came for dinner and had a delicious meal! The dates were a great appetizer and the cocktails were amazing. The scallops and salmon special were both great. Service was overall good. We had an early reservation and there was only one other group there. We were at tables right next to each other. We asked if we could swap to another 2 person table but were told we couldn’t. Not the end of the world but just was a little odd. Overall great experience and can’t wait to come back.

We didn’t stay at this location just visited for dinner - reservations are a must esp if you are visiting during a busy weekend. We were
There for wine and food and had a party of 6 and could feel the pressure of the restaurant to seat everyone.
Diverse menu and cute cocktails 🍹
