At a glance you might think that Jays represents a classic country eating experience that’s getting harder and harder to find: a quaint diner filled with friendly locals, crispy southern friend chicken and delightfully bland, mushy and under seasoned sides served in huge portions for a couple of bucks. At a glance you’d be right, but THOSE delicious American diners had someone’s grandmother in the kitchen and she knew what she was doing. Additionally, down south, while our grannies may have fed us with whatever cheap ingredients they could manage to find, those ingredients were farm fresh and made from scratch to order . This ain’t your grannies diner. Jays uses god awful ingredients to serve food that is simply not good(I think the mashed potatoes may actually be rehydrated potato’s, water and vegetable oil?). If you’re coming for more than an impressive dollar to calorie ratio it’s definitely for the fried chicken. Its decent…moist and at-least a little crispy….but the star of the show is the way the breading is seasoned. If there was a granny back there cooking, Jays artfully seasoned breading could put Jays on the map.If you ever want to find out what it tasted like to grow up in the south in the 1950s if your mama always burnt the roast give Jays a try. If you’re low on cash and training for a marathon come in for a few pieces of chicken and an inoffensive but uninspired biscuit. Otherwise y’all, maybe pick up some chicken when you happen to be in the area and make the rest at home.

Jay's chicken is slapping, smacking, banging (aka amazing), and/ or whatever you want to call this DELICIOUSNESS! ?I live in Brier Creek, Raleigh, and I have passed this place over a dozen times heading back and forth to my father's house in the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA, and I finally had to stop..I was starving, had a craving for chicken, and it was a packed house, so that alone tells me there's gotta be something special there!Wooow!!!! This was the literally the best fried chicken I ever had and that says A LOT ming from someone who worked as a cook and Su-Chef for close to 15 years (I'm even writing my own cookbook right now).I slso used to manage a Bojangles close to 20 years ago, and I thought they had good chicken and biscuits, but now I'm thinking to myself... Bojangles, who?!?! Lol! ?Not only did I get an 8 piece (which was massive), but I also bought mashed potatoes, collards, and green beans! My wife doesn't eat pork due to religious reasons (I still do, lol), and they don't out pork in anything, and guess what?!? It still tastes like they put the ham hocks in there, lol!The food, staff, cooks, and customer service were impeccable! The best part is that they serve some of my other favorite dishes such as livers, gizzards, fried catfish, etc. and please don't hate fpr it but I'm from NY. NY ain't got nuttin on Jay's, my fellow Carolinians! If you haven't been, you're doing yourself and your palate an injustice! Crazily enough, my wife and I looked at each other and said, "As long as Jay's is open, we are driving 45+ min. just for chicken n' fixins!!! Lol ?My tastebuds are still dancing, just thinking about going back to get some more! Please make sure you tip these folks handsomely as they deserve every penny!Thank you, Jay's team!!!

I was working out in Hillsborough and I was looking for a spot with good fried chicken. The food was by far the best friend chicken, greens, and Mac n cheese I've had since I moved to NC. The chicken was seasoned and fried just right. It had the right crunch and season. The biscuit by itself was good and I'm upset I didn't order an extra one. The customer service was welcoming. I was greeted by the cashier and one of the cooks. It was probably Jay but I didn't ask. LOL This isn't your fancy restaurant but the restaurant where you go to get a good home cooked meal. Will take the drive from Raleigh any day. I will back soon
