It’s was just okay. Food tastes like they are using the lowest cost ingredients they can find. The best portions of our meal were fluffy biscuits and waffles. So they do bread well. Service was friendly, if a bit slow. It took us over an hour to have breakfast from drink order to signing the check. Toasted is much better, just farther away.

3/4 of us were pleased with our dinners, but that one was really not good. Fried shrimp dinners were very good, fries were delicious, the cheese burger was also quite good. The house made chips were amazing, especially with ranch dressing. The fried shrimp was hot, fresh and had a fabulous breading that wasn’t too heavy. But, the shrimp and grits was just bad. It was the largest serving of unseasoned grits I’ve ever seen, topped with boiled shrimp, tiny bacon bits, a flavorless sauce, tomatoes, onion and green pepper. There was some cheese, but again, no seasoning at all. Skip the shrimp and grits, for sure. Service was good, but it should have been considering that shortly after we were seated, the other three tables paid their bills and left. When asked whether the coleslaw was good, our server was honest. “I throw a lot of it away,” she said. So, I’d guess that it ranks up there with the shrimp and grits. Give Macie and Ethel’s a try - but get the fried shrimp and skip the coleslaw.

Great food, atmosphere and service. Went here for brunch on a weekday. Nice size menu and daily specials. Great selection of wines too. Highly recommend.

First time here and we decided to try lunch. The Chef was willing to make the roast chicken for lunch, when usually it is served after 2 pm. He loved the meal with real mashed potatoes and string beans.I had the Cobb Salad which was huge so make sure you get the half salad. Salad had lots of different ingredients and the blue cheese dressing was very good.Server was nice and friendly. The bill was a little more then we wanted to spend. $33 for lunch.

The service here was very slow and the food worse. We ordered fried chicken and it was tough. It looked like it had been sitting under lights for hours. I told our waitress and she did take a little off price. We will not go back here again.

We love this restaurant! But today when we went, we met Leeann our waitress. She is wonderful! Such a positive ray of sunshine that adds to the atmosphere. Thank you! Our food was perfect as well.

We had a great breakfast at Macie & Ethel's! The southern hospitality was ? and the food was served quickly while being hot and fresh. Prices were reasonable and the menu had something for everyone. We'll be back!

Had the Roasted Chicken tonight. It was the bestt I have ever eaten. Try it out....moist, tender with crispy skin. The best!!!!!! Ask for Ms. Deb. She is awesome.

Arrived last Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Maybe 6 other tables were occupied. After ordering we received our coffee. 20 minutes later the waitress came to our table to tell us they were short staffed it would just be a few more minutes. 20 minutes later we left without food.

We went there for dinner last nite, and I'm not sure what the problem was, but service wasn't good, food was mediocre and overpriced. The waitress went to serve drinks to another table and set her tray of drinks on a diety table full of dishes. The Cole slaw was warm, I got sick from it. Yuck

Very disappointed in menu…..totally different from several months ago. First of all, the new menu was hard to decipher, and the food options were very different. Always loved their chicken ‘n dumplings and this is no longer on the menu. On the positive side, the hamburger was delicious, and the waitress was very pleasant. Due to the MANY menu changes, I doubt my friend and I will return.

After a long day of enjoying the amazing beach, my family decided to get take out (online ordering was easy to do and I did it while sitting in my beach chair! ?). We all ordered the fried chicken. It did not disappoint!! The chicken was so flavorful and tender. The mashed potatoes were delicious, and my kids, who aren’t fond of “sauces” even loved the gravy on top (if you have kids who are especially picky, ask for no gravy or gravy on the side). We also got side salads, Mac and cheese, green beans and biscuits. Everything was delicious and we have tons of leftovers for lunch tomorrow. The staff was so friendly and polite. We will definitely be back to try all the other menu items (I would like to go for brunch one day!). If you are vacationing in or near Holden Beach, this is a MUST for family dinner.

If you’re looking for a restaurant with some Southern Staples look no further! Best fried pickles around and no one in this area can beat their fried green tomatoes! Staff is super friendly and the place is open and inviting. Their menu had so much more, but this is what we ordered today. Leaving as a satisfied customer!

Shrimp and grits are the best! Definitely recommended. Everything else was good. The price is a little much. Definitely a place to experience southern hospitality. The waitress was really sweet.
