came here on my last day in NC with my brother, who frequents the place, and truly enjoyed myself. the service and server was great, we sat at the bar. I don't drink alcohol but the bartender made me a virgin cocktail, despite the bar not having a designated menu for it. the food was good, I got the crab balls and mussels. the crab balls were delicious and full of flavor, while the mussels def could have use a little more... something. garlic butter would have been better than just butter. either way great way to end my siblings weekend.

In my opinion, this is the best place to get fish and chips in Jacksonville. Service was great food was fresh. We got takeout this time, but are looking forward to eating in next time!

My husband and I Stopped in for the first time. We Regret not doing it sooner! The fiod came fast. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer. It was so good. It was Tender, served hot, literally melted in your mouth. The Thai chili sauce that came with it, delicious! Great paired together! I ordered fish and chips. He ordered fish and oysters. Everything was great. The waitress was awesome. She was Fast and always checked on us. Will become a regular. We are going for the crab legs next maybe the shrimp boil ... calamari definitely!

Shunkin’ Shack & Oyster Bar: Great Vibe, Needs a Little More Love in the Kitchen

What a rollercoaster! Shunkin’ Shack is a cozy little spot — small, but just right for this area. We rolled in early for bingo music night (big win for the vibe).

My wife kicked things off with the hush puppies, and I went big with a pound and a half of crab legs. Our waitress? Absolutely nailed it — friendly, quick, and handled business like a pro.

But the kitchen slipped a bit: the hush puppies came out undercooked — probably rushed in oil that was way too hot. The good news? Our waitress didn’t miss a beat and got them replaced fast.

And those crab legs? Total redemption. Sweet, juicy, exactly what you come here for. Once the fresh hush puppies hit the table, we were back on track and left full and happy.

Would we come back? Yep — but fingers crossed the fryer gets it together next time.

The Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar is a nice place to go when you are craving seafood. While there is a wide variety of seafood options, I like the fried flounder and shrimp. Also, this casual dining spot has a friendly atmosphere which includes several big screen TVs. Additionally, I would like to recognize several staff workers who helped make my dining experience enjoyable: Tanya - She's the bartender who gave me food recommendations and often checked to see if I needed anything else. Katelyn - She is a server who always has a smile on her face. She was always visible and helping customers. Even the manager (Chris) assisted his staff when a large group entered the building. He helped deliver various dishes to customers. I really like it when everyone pitches in to make a dining experience enjoyable.

I’ve been to shuckin shack several times and I’ve enjoyed every single time I’ve went there but the last time I went I had a very unpleasant time. I went an got the you shuck oysters on Thursday an they were not good at all they were tiny and had dirt an the miniature crabs in them. Some of them were even empty. Turns out it wasn’t the normal oysters they serve so when you go be sure to CALL AHEAD an ask are they serving their normal oysters or the other ones. The normals ones are amazing an worth your money but the other ones aren’t. The server we had was very accommodating an understanding an I ended up just ordering a different meal which was great. BUT please ask if they are serving the regular oysters before going there an spending your money!
