We stopped by here to grab a quick ice cream snack. There was only one person working and the group before us ordered a lot of milkshakes, it ended up taking so long the group behind us gave up and left. No one else was wearing masks either, including the staff person, so the prolonged service time was more of a concern than it typically would be. The staff member that fulfilled our order was helpful and friendly and didn't seem frustrated despite it being fairly late and busy. Maybe low staffing due to COVID, not sure. The ice cream was just okay, not bad but nothing I would seek out again especially with other concerns. One of my biggest concerns is a lack of seating, there are hardly any tables at all, and poor lighting. We ended up at a small table just off the main walkway in a flowerbed. It was quite dark so I couldn't see much and I ended up being bitten by what I think were fire ants because it was only on my feet and no one else was bothered (all other were in closed toed shoes, I was in sandals). Multiple bites on both feet, with intense burning then itching for days! I would not advise sitting there unless you have on shoes or at least shine a light under the table to look around first.

So happy we went to Distinct Delights! Thank you for your deliciously cute chocolates. They added the beach like theme to my sister and brother-in-laws Anniversary cake since we are celebrating here. It was a hit! Yummy too! :D What’s not shown are the starfish and the cutest crab along the side of the cake and the adorable dolphins - to be eaten later, I assure you. Everyone loved it! THANK YOU for adding to our celebration!

Big Bucks in Duck/Corolla was closed so we trekked back to Kitty Hawk to try another Big Bucks determined to try their "homemade ice cream". Their signs are everywhere on OBX so we thought they must be the greatest? We went in, no one including the worker were wearing masks however there was a piece of plexiglass up? We asked to try a flavor and were told we could not due to the Covid...what...what does that have to do with a taste of ice cream? You hand us a spoon, we try it and toss the spoon in the trash. We pointed out that no one including the worker were wearing masks so clearly Covid had nothing to do with it. We asked her to explain this and she couldn't; basically she said "it's the rules". Clearly it was for cost savings by not giving out tastes. How do you know what flavor you want without trying it? We left and knew we would never go to a Big Bucks ever again. We went down the road to Scoops (710 S Croatan Hwy KDH) for the best ice cream on the island, friendly staff and delicious ice cream which we were allowed to taste by happy staff. KUDOS to Scoops!!!!

We have been going to Big Bucks for five years now. They have a great selection of flavors, there are a number of cones from which to choose and the serving size is generous. They also offer a variety of fudge and other chocolate (or chocolate covered) dessert items.

I was heading with my sons and nephew to play miniature golf. We decided to start with ice cream. This place happened to be near the golf. We went in to find a vast array of flavors plus lots of other baked good behind the counter. We met lots of vacationers but importantly locals too. The ice cream was delicious. We were all in agreement.
We visited Big Buck's Ice Cream twice during our recent stay in the OBX. We were thrilled that it was a smaller establishment with very little wait compared to The Spot, Surfin Spoon, and other options. However, if you are driving down 158, this ice cream place is located in a strip mall which is very, very difficult to see at night. Be prepared because you could slide right past it. Very good homemade Ice Cream options, and they had a ton of other sweets available. I had a Vanilla Latte and a White Chocolate Mocha latte from there on the nights we visited. Neither of which were very good, the Vanilla had too much cream in it and the White Chocolate Mocha had way too much espresso and not enough cream. Definitely stick to other places like Waveriders if you are looking for coffee drinks.

Homemade ice cream is a must try! Coffee toffee chocolate chip was absolutely wonderful - great flavor!!! My husband ordered a brownie sundae but they were out of brownies. Sundae still tasted great though!
