I started traveling to India in 1988. Subsequent trips took me to Nepal as early as 1990. We lived in a university town in Virginia that had a number of foreign students and we worked with a non-profit that had many overseas visitors coming through. Needless to say, we are lovers of Asian cuisine. And my wife and I have had the privilege of having GREAT Indian food prepared for us in our home.
So, whenever we travel, we search out local Asian restaurants. We generally choose Indian restaurants. Even though we were at the beach again this past May, we didn’t eat seafood every day. And we were both elated to walk into the Himalaya Indian Cuisine at Kitty Hawk. The first smell had my wife and I looking at each other.
Let me just say, this guy can cook! He prepares his own bread, uses fresh herbs daily, and makes absolutely the best Pakora my wife and I have ever had. We called a friend two days later and went again! Yes, we made it to fresh fish and shrimp places, after all, it was the beach. But without a doubt the highlight for us was Himalaya Indian Cuisine. If you like Indian or Nepali food, and don’t stop at this restaurant, you’ve missed a treat. It will be our first stop when we return to the beach. Amazing, incredible, outstanding, authentic, memorable, and more!

This restaurant is struggling and it was pretty clear as soon as we came in. The service was great and the employees there were clearly trying but the quality of the food was low and overall, the place seemed poorly managed. The food was potentially authentic in terms of spicing but very mediocre and there are definitely concerns from me about sanitary practices at the restaurant. The service was the highlight but clearly they need and deserve a lot more help than they’re getting.

This is a truly delightful restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious — full of authentic Indian flavors and beautifully prepared. The staff was incredibly friendly. If you're looking to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine in a comfortable setting, this is the perfect place. Highly recommended!

Loved the food. We had Shahi Paneer, Papdi Chat, Dal and Naan. Everything was phenomenal, Prakash the chef, personally came and check on us. The server Kafia, was absolutely best. I would highly recommend this place.

The chai tea was amazing after a delicious meal!
So delicious. We got the chicken tikka masala, shahi paneer and garlic naan. Staff was very attentive and kind. Will definitely be back anytime we crave Indian!

This restaurant service so bad and fourth price so expensive. Give me food so little but take prices inviting for food like a one and half hour but restaurant this time no busy.

My family wanted to do Indian for dinner tonight and there's usually not much around this area. We came in and it was immediately very welcoming. I forget her name, but the lovely women at the front was so nice and so passionate about the food here. She let us know about all the options and substitutes they do, and she knows her stuff. The food was excellent! we had the garlic naan, the chicken tikka masala, samosa chaat, lamb rogan josh, and the rasmalai. All of it was wonderful. They even had French fries for my toddler. They even put it in the fridge to cool it down for her (it had just come out). Im pregnant and can't have too many spicy foods, so their mild spice was perfect. Not spicy at all, and even my husbands medium spice was tolerable. All around a great time and will definitely be going back. Check this place out if you can, it's now in the top 3 of my OBX favorites!

Called ahead to make reservations. Said they don't take reservations. Yet when we got there a table had a reserved sign and a large party came in after us. Served on paper plates. Food was Great . Mango lassi top notch

I went on holiday to outer bank and visited Himalaya Restaurant. I was really missing authentic Indian food. My friends and I tried the Chana Masala and Daal tadka . I have to say, the Daal Tadka was so good it reminded me of my home country. They added roasted mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and methi leaves to the Daal Tadka, which brought back memories of my grandmom's daal. I highly recommend this restaurant to all Indian families visiting outer banks(kitty hawk) . You must give it a try! I even took some Daal Tadka to go when I was returning home.

Pathetic food, very less quantity. Not worth, instead of eating here I will prefer bread and butter. Pathetic service.
