Enjoyed my iced white mocha lavender coffee so much I forgot to take a photo but here’s a pic of my pup instead. Service was fantastic and the coffee was delicious! Love the groovy vibe inside!

Happy Hippies Java Hut is definitely a must for a delicious cup of coffee! We tried the Mermaid Magic and it did not disappoint!! We have been back a couple times.

I did take off one star because both times the woman at the counter has been snippy. She's very particular about her shop and it does get quite busy so I'm hoping it's all it was. Remember it is card only and if it looks somewhat busy inside, stand outside. Take it from me. 😉🤣

Not open during posted store hours. This happened several times over two separate trips.

This is such a cute little coffee shop! I appreciated that they had a lot of non-coffee/caffeine options as well. We stopped in mid day to cool off from the beach, my partner got the Riptide and I got the Blueberry Lavender lemonade. Both were so good, the riptide was a nice cold brew option for him as the mermaid was good but he wanted a bit less of the flavorings. My lemonade was divine in the heat, a perfect balance of the lavender and blueberry/lemonade flavors without being overly sweet. The staff were friendly, helpful and kind. The shop itself is quirky, cute and clean!

Absolutely obsessed!! I kept seeing TikToks about this adorable little local coffee shop right on the beach in Kure, so of course I had to check it out—and let me just say, it completely lived up to the hype and more. Hands down, the BEST coffee I’ve ever had. The menu was massive and full of so many unique and delicious options that I honestly struggled to pick just one!

The baristas were so kind, patient, and genuinely passionate about what they do. I had about a million questions, and they answered every single one with a smile and helped me narrow down my choices based on what I liked. They made me feel so welcome, like I was chatting with old friends. I could’ve stayed there all day just soaking in the vibes and good conversation.

As a fellow business owner, I can say without hesitation that Happy Hippies Java Hut is the real deal! For the past seven years, they’ve been serving up the most flavorful, perfectly crafted coffee you’ll find anywhere on the beach—nothing else comes close. But what truly sets them apart is the heart behind the business. It’s not just a local coffee shop—it’s a family owned, warm, welcoming space built on consistency, care, and community. In a town with unpredictable seasonal rushes, staying open year-round takes serious dedication. Meeting every expectation every single day isn’t always possible and of course, no place can please everyone every day, but the team here shows up with real positivity and consistency, even when it’s tough. That kind of commitment deserves recognition.. If you're visiting or lucky enough to live here, skip the chains—Happy Hippies Java Hut is everything a local coffee shop should be.

My wife and I are visiting Kure beach on vacation. Great coffee and great staff. Also accommodating being that I’m on keto, they have a specific drink for those of us who do low carb. Highly recommend.

Wide range of coffee options- I would recommend Beach Bum. However, some coffees seem to lack a powerful flavor (Salty Turtle). The cashier seemed to be more of a moody hippie than a happy one as she asked questions before you had time to answer. I did not appreciate her impatience considering the shop was rather empty when I ordered. You can find better coffee at a better price (Crush and Grind).

The place was good. Was rude to me and the people ahead of me. Wanted the same thing the people had in front of us and said they were “short staffed” and can’t make it. Also like to add they close at noon everyday. They were rude when we didn’t give them a tip they wanted. Coffee was fine but the workers there need a attitude check or they would gotten a better tip.

GO TO KEI CAFE FOR COFFEE!! Happy hippie is a misleading name, Owner is rude and not happy at all!!! Over priced coffee that is not worth it.

Great coffee (not burnt!!!) with a wide selection of flavors. Atmosphere was nice with artists' works being sold as well as various bags of teas and coffees. I also like their 6 people at a time policy, since small coffee places get crowded fast

When we stayed at Kure Beach for a 4 night vacation, we got coffee 3 mornings in a row from this place.
First day, we tried Mermaid Magic (me), Beachcomber (husband) and frozen hot chocolate (daughter) with coconut whipped creams. They were all so extremely delicious. I kept on drinking some from everyone’s drinks 😅
The next day, we tried Beach Bum (cuz I like lavender), Flip Flop (cuz my husband likes Reese’s), frozen hot chocolate (daughter). My husband and I found our drinks mediocre. My daughter loved her frozen hot chocolate more that day. I actually liked her frozen hot chocolate way more the first time, since it had a unique and delicious taste to it. But the one from second day tasted like classic hot chocolate (but frozen) to me.
Third day, we ordered Bomb Diggity (cuz I like coconut and caramel), Magic Mermaid (husband) and Cha Pow Cha Pango (daughter). I knew chocolate in my drink was going to be overpowering, and it was, so I again found my drink mediocre. My husband and daughter enjoyed their drinks.
Overall, my husband liked Beachcomber the most, I liked all first day drinks (Magic Mermaid, Beach Comber and frozen hot chocolate - however they did it the first day). Btw Magic Mermaid has a sample so definitely try that.
What I didn’t like is the inconsistency in pricing. We were charged differently for the frozen hot chocolate that we got in 2 consecutive days. Also the first day’s cashier had presented us the options of whipped cream and coconut cream but the cashier the next day only presented whipped cream. But would highly recommend asking for coconut cream specifically since it has its own amazing taste to it.
We also loved how dog friendly they are. They gave our dog a treat 2wice, and one day they offered water for her.
If we’re in the area again, we’ll definitely be back…
