This place does not look like a great restaurant but dont let the look fool.you the food was absolutely delicious we tried the fried chicken fried pork chop and neckbones smothered in gravy had sides of collards pinto beans Mac n cheese and potato salad everything was great I had never had smothered neck bones and it was good customer service was great too I was in Lexington for the weekend but trust I will drive from Greensboro to eat here again

Extremely disappointed with my experience today. I first came here a few months ago and the food was decent. Wanted to come again and try other things on the menu.

Wish I never came back, it was a hot mess. First of all, to dine in you must pay first. We waited in line for over 20 minutes placed our order. No neck bones, angel eggs, Grits, or Turkey legs were available. After ordering our food we sat ourselves. There were flies flying and crawling around everywhere. We tried to move our seats to an area with less flies and it provided temporary relief.

It took over an hour for our food to arrive. Its completely unacceptable to have customers wait that long. Absolutely nothing we ordered should have taken that long. Mind you, we ordered an appetizer which came out with the entree. After waiting for such a long time we took our food to go. The collard greens left little to be desired, the fried chicken was gummy and could of benefited from being fried longer, and the ribs were just OK. The price and the wait time doesn't align with the food. We traveled from out of town and was completely let down by this experience. It's unfortunate that I cannot recommend this place and it's not worth the distance.

Response back to owner: you're basically saying if the food doesn't suit my palate it doesn't mean it's salty since no one else complained....I find my palate to be quite diverse. I went back to read more reviews to see if I was the only one having issues regarding salty food. Seems like there are plenty of complaints about salty food. I'm sure the food does taste good if the salt was toned down. This is not to bash to small businesses as we try to support small local businesses first before big chain restaurants.

Original: Tried to call and place a pick up order, but was told to go in person. So my husband went in person. After reading so many positive google reviews, we decided to finally give it a try. We were disappointed with the rude customer service over the phone and in person..and most of all, the food! The food was so salty we couldn't enjoy a $30 plate of oxtail, and collard greens....

the mac and cheese, hushpuppies, a little bit of the green beans (still salty but not as bad as the collars greens and oxtail) and potatoe salad was the only thing we could eat (we got a veggie plate and an oxtail plate). We finished the mac and cheese and hushpuppies, but had to order dinner elsewhere. I wonder if they taste their own food before serving. It's so salty I don't know how anyone can finish these dishes. It literally tastes like a 1 tsp of salt with every spoon of food. I would not recommend this place to my friends and family.

Words in the review can’t explain how good this food was to me & my husband.
Okay first let’s start with the fact that I walked in at 7:40 all the grease was off for the night so my family wasn’t to eat else where but I was still determined to try something. I bought a cake (strawberry crunch cheesecake) & a side of Mac.
As I’m waiting for my order to come up, The owner came out from the back & said “I heard you saying how you wanted to try my food so here is a plate enough for 2 so you can try & have reason to come back”
My jaw dropped. I opened the plate, this angel gave me Oxtail, rice, yams, cabbage/greens mix. I was in aweeee. I thanked her & went in my way.
All I can say is I definitely have more than enough reason to go back. That food was so darn good! I can’t even put it into words, A MUST TRY!!!! It’s far from my house & I’ll still make that drive to get it bc it was excellent.
I’m extra grateful she gave us double mac cause me & my husband would of been in there fighting 😂

This is not a negative review to bash this business but to get clarity. My mom and I drove 30 minutes to try this establishment. We seen that it was $30 for the buffet but was willing to pay the cost. When entering, we seen the menu for the buffet. I don’t eat any of the meats that were listed. I asked for a vegetable plate and was told that it had to be weighed and it has to be for takeout. ??? I didn’t understand why I would have to take it to go. We drove 30 minutes to patronize this business. I’m not sure if we’ll come back anytime soon but I wish you all the best! I know new business have trial and error starting off. Hopefully as you grow, you’ll consider this.

I pulled up to JJ’s Mama’s Soulfood right as they were about to close—and instead of turning me away, they opened the door like I was family. 🙏🏾

And the food didnt disappoint. 🔥 Seasoned right. Sizeable portions. Tasted homemade and full of love.

But beyond the plate, you feel the kindness, the excellence, the purpose behind what they’re doing.

These are the kinds of businesses I love to support—good food, good people.

Was charged a gratuity for only 3 people, things were found floating in our drink, the oxtails had something crunchy in it, oxtails are not supposed to be crunchy, fried chicken was salty. Food was over hyped

Oxtail was pricey, then charged me extra for my sides (that were included, so I thought), oxtail was so over cooked, and kept getting pieces of burnt parts, there was something in my drink, they got me another one, same thing, I think something is in the ice machine.corn on the cob was over cooked and the seasoning they put on was very salty, the fried chicken was over cooked also, collard greens was salty, and it wasn’t until the next day when I looked at receipt that they put a gratuity automatically on and charged extra for 3 of my sides, didn’t see anything on menu about upcharges. Drove an hour and a half, and the only thing we liked was the Mac and cheese
