1587 Restaurant & Lounge

We were there for New Years Eve Dinner . The food was excellent and the service was great as well. I would definitely dine there again. Beautiful atmosphere overlooking the water. Very pleased.

We had a lovely meal here after traveling most of the day. We were tired and simply expecting to eat and go to our room. What we had instead was a delicious dinner with a personable waitstaff and a charming atmosphere. My husband was happy to see that Cider was available (his favorite). I had the Ribeye and was very pleased with the preparation. Rare is often difficult for less experienced chefs to prepare but that was not the case here. The steak was prepared perfectly and was tender and flavorful. Others ordered the Duck and the Shrimp and Grits. Everyone was very pleased with the flavor and presentation of their meals. We finished with the apple cobbler for dessert but we had to share it because no one had room left for more than a bite or two.
I would always make reservations (it is a small restaurant) and plan to take your time enjoying the experience.

For years we've visited the 1587 to enjoy a creative and we'll prepared dinner. The service has always been good and views of the harbor relaxing. The growing popularity of the restaurant has led the noise level to increase, so a quiet dinner cannot always be expected.
Still an enjoyable experience.

I should’ve looked deeper into the restaurant before making our reservation. My wife and I are on the tail end of our honeymoon and I was looking for an elegant seafood restaurant which offered sunset views. This was one of the top choices from the search and it had a 5-star rating. It does not have a sunset view. The number of seafood items on the menu were limited. Our waiter was nice but not very good at his role. He opens up with “Have you dined with us before? We said : No. He said: No? So what are you having?” It went downhill from there. One plate was overcooked. The replacement was rushed, undercooked, and poorly presented. The waiter didn’t even stay to see if the second attempt was properly prepared. Our appetizer was taken without asking if we were done. I’m leaving out a few of the other details of our dining failure. At least my wife and I were able to laugh through all of it. Thank goodness for the member of the kitchen staff who served our appetizer, served our meal (1st time), and asked if we were finished with our appetizer. He needs to be given a raise and promoted. The waiter needs re-training. 1587 may have elegant prices and some friendly staff but an elegant dining experience it is not.

Excellent restaurant, great location in a hotel with waterfront dining. Had fresh snapper, was very good. Caesar salad was excellent. Would recommend this restaurant.

The best food I have ever eaten in my life! The service, food, ambiance, and view 🌊⛴️everything was perfect. We had six different appetizers and five entrées, and every single one was flawless… absolutely D E L I C I O U S. Although I loved them all, my favorite appetizer was the lobster mac & cheese, and for the entrée, I especially enjoyed the catch of the day, which, when we went, was drum.

We had the watermelon salad for appetizer, the catch of the day for dinner which was the grouper, and we had the lobster mac and cheese. WOW. the food was absolutely delicious. We’ve dined at many Michelin and James bears restaurants and I’d say the food itself close up there with some of the best food we’ve had
Drinks: the painkiller brought us back to our time on the BVI. I had the Riesling and it was smooth, full, with a hint of sweet
We’d definitely come back if we’re ever in the area to try the other menu items

My girlfriend surprised me with a Birthday dinner at the 1587 Lounge, and we had a fantastic time! Everything was top-notch! The cocktail list was both unique and extensive, providing classics with a twist (like the Old Fashioned) and creative creations (like the Blueberry-Limoncello Sour). The food was even better than the drinks, and the desserts were the same. Our waitress was amazing, and in addition to the great service, we ordered almost exclusively from her recommendations and weren't led astray!

Hidden gem is an understatement!

The view is great! We loved it. All the sides were also great, but the salads didn’t come out before- they came out with our meal. The food took a while to come out. We all ordered pepper encrusted steaks, but none of them were. Additionally- one of our steaks was supposed to be cooked medium rare, but came out well done. We sent it back and the new one came out totally rare. Ultimately- she didn’t even eat the steak and there weren’t any apologies for the issues. Definitely a little disappointing and not the service we would expect for the price point.

Food was great, and service was very good. The setting is very nice, but the dining room is loud. Linens and some sound dampening would go a long way to making it an all around great fine dining experience. (I revised this up to 5 stars just thinking about how difficult it is to thread so many needles, and the noise wasn't terrible.).
