Poor Richards Sandwich Shop

Poor Richard’s never disappoints—great food, chill atmosphere, and the best people. Their daily specials always hit the spot, and you can’t go wrong with a sandwich and a bowl of soup. Plus, the bartender is awesome—super friendly and always makes you feel right at home. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by. You’ll be glad you did!

Stopped in for a few drinks (only, no food this visit) on a festive Saturday night. Poor Richard's turns into more of a local bar than a "sandwich shop" every evening. Fine with me. And for the holidays, they rebranded the name as "Poor Rudolph's". Cute!

Service was prompt and friendly, the live band was excellent, and the crowd (that seemed to be mostly locals), plus the terrific holiday decor, gave a warm feeling to the spot overall. Even Santa stopped in!

Im not a huge sandwhich person but oh my goodness. Vibes are chill and fun. Food was sooooo good. Staff is very friendly. Pimento grilled cheese was what i ordered...yup will be getting that again next time im in town.

Good food! Very busy so it did take some time to be served and seating was not so widely available. But it’s right by the shore and definitely hit the spot. Just wish they had more vegetarian options.

The food here is incredibly elementary. Hardly heated sandwiches. You WILL wait in line. One person taking orders. Menu says you get mayo, mustard and peppers with every sandwich. Didn’t get any of those things with my ham and cheese.

Fries were a 5/10.

Pretty awful menu. Interior is pretty nasty. Can tell it’s an old tourist trap. Many better places to go around town. If you want a quick sandwich simply go to jersey mikes.

God bless the workers here. Hopefully they are compensated well.

Stopped in to grab some sandwiches to take back to the boat. Service was okay, but he seemed over people for the day, a bit terse.
I ordered GF bread but pretty sure I didn't get it. I realized it when I got back to the boat. It's a preference, not an allergy, so thankfully I didn't need to go back. If that did happen to be GF, it was the best GF bread I've ever had 🤣🤷
Sandwich was really good. Potato salad was alright.
Partner said his sandwich was good but he didn't realize it was buffalo chicken deli meat. He thought it was tenders. He said his fries were really good.

We'll be back when we return to Manteo, though. It was pretty good.

SEE POOR RESPONSE FROM THE OWNER BELOW. I'M ESPECIALLY WARY OF THIS PLACE NOW. ABSOLUTELY LOOK AT YOUR CHECK (ONLY GOOD ADVICE PROVIDED), THAT'S HOW I CAUGHT THE "MISTAKE." WENT BACK AT 5PM WHEN THE RESTAURANT REOPENED TO GET MY MONEY BACK. MANAGEMENT SHOULD DEFINITELY REMEMBER THAT.

"Not a happy camper... 20% TIP was added to the credit card without notice. Not asked if we wanted to add one. Standard order at the counter joint, so a tip is already borderline. Another person in my party paid with cash, so they didn't add a tip to his bill. So, they slyly tried to add it to card users hoping we wouldn't notice. Place is run of the mill. I didn't like the lack of soups options either."

The sandwiches were good. What we did not like was the 20% tip added in without notice. No option on the credit/debit card machine. When this issue was brought up with management, they kindly resolved this issue.
