We had dinner there tonight and it was AMAZING. Our server Emma knew so much about the menu and she was just overall so sweet and funny! We also felt good with having our kids there. Some restaurants give off bad vibes whenever kids are there but not this one. Plus they do utilize local meats and ingredients.

I will always support the local folks who support the locals, I mean, it literally says it in the name of their restaurant! Food from McDowell Local feels like a hug, and the fact everyone in there is a part of the community (and they source local foods and local brews means a lot. Every since I started temporarily working in downtown Marion, McDowell Local has been my place for lunch or quick food, or quick anything. The FOH staff are always super sweet to me, and nobody makes it feel like you're a chore to be serving. I feel like that's rare these days. I've been dealing with my long-term illness this week and just stopped in for a quick drink to take with my medicines and the service was prompt, fast, and kind. I think I feel better just from that dose of kindness.

This place has a lot of potential! But our lunch here was so average. First, they were out of almost everything but waited until we ordered to tell us what they didn’t have — from beers to sandwiches the offerings were minimal and the staff did nothing to help us understand what they actually had making the process frustrating. Food was fine, no complaints. Ambiance could be improved, it’s a nice space but it has a dark and dingy vibe.

Burger was great. Love that they had a gf bun. Love that they use a lot of local source food. French fries tasted like cooked in old oil maybe. Otherwise I would have given them 5 stars. Server was really good!

We loved the food! I had a Tesla salad and it was fantastic! It has crispy fried onions that were gluten free, I never can eat those!

We so appreciated the vegan options (beyond meat burgers & tempeh). The hand cut French fries were the best!
Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options-salads, house made veggie patty, beyond meat & tempeh.
Dietary restrictions: Vegan & gluten free options. Can easily modify salads to make vegan.

Great local restaurant. Hence the name, the food is sourced from local farms. Good vibe inside the restaurant. We all ordered sandwiches and everything was delicious. Our server, Laney, was very helpful and told us a lot about the area. Would definitely come again if we are nearby.

Great casual eatery. We ended up getting a Swamp Fox and a Local. The pork was tender and the vinegar slaw paired great. The salsa on the burger added a great acidic punch that you wouldn't normally expect on a burger. We also tried the poutine fries and it was a hearty type of comfort food. The gravy is flavorful and the crunch on the fries helps them hold up to the sloppy aspect of the dish. Also be warned that the Swamp Fox is quite messy, albeit worth the sticky hands. But I reccomend asking for extra napkins with it. We will definitely be back soon (but we missed the pickled blueberries we saw on their Google photos, I hope next time we are here they are featured again)

Wandered downtown a little with a friend. Had never been to this place so dropped in for a beer and a snack.
Cozy, clean decor that felt spacious. The hanging white light lanterns were charming but strange (in Asian culture they're hung for funerals).
Only 2 beers on tap but a great selection of bottles/cans. Went for something different... Tucher Heffe Weizen!
Didn't want another burger so went with something novel... the Gochujang Pork Belly sandwich. Gochujang is like a Korean food condiment, a combination fermented soybean and red chili pepper. Has some umami with a zing to it. Sadly, you could barely taste the gochujang, which really ended up being some chopped pork belly in a bun. The tater tots were great though, golden and crispy.
Service was friendly. Will probably come back to try something different next time.
