We ordered a singular drink and just played Uno majority of the night and was denied alcohol with an hour left of closing and was the only couple asked to leave. We didn’t create a scene, disrupt anyone’s night and kept it to ourselves the whole night. Check the security footage. We did nothing wrong and were told we needed to leave. Never will return ever again. Didn’t want to create a scene or argument so we left without issue.

Horrible staff likes to disrespect veterans and their security physically assaulted someone outside on Saturday night which was posted online on Tiktok. This behavior is so disgusting especially the text messages from their bar back Amanda telling a veteran to kill himself. This establishment should be boycotted immediately.

I was deeply disturbed after seeing a video circulating online that appeared to show staff at Matthew’s Social House treating a local veteran with aggression and disrespect. Veterans deserve to be honored, not mistreated, and the behavior I witnessed was unacceptable. On top of that, the staff’s general attitude toward veterans comes across as dismissive and unprofessional, which leaves a very negative impression of the establishment. I strongly urge management to take accountability, provide proper training, and ensure their team treats all patrons—especially those who have served, with the respect they deserve. Until then, I cannot recommend this venue.

Security is over aggressive and assaults patrons have seen this on multiple occasions. Their barback Amanda also disrespected law enforcement and veterans on multiple occasions please avoid going here as this bar is incredibly problematic. Also have seen the large bartender with a beard drinking while on the clock / overserving patrons which has been reported to NC ABC.

A nice chill spot. My first time visiting. There was live entertainment outdoors. Lots of seating and the fire pits were going. I only had a drink. I'll definitely be back to try the food.

This once brewery has been updated from the previous owner to a more upscale cocktail bar feel with offerings of beer, wine and spirits. Comfortable atmosphere in the heart of Matthews historic district where you can people watch and enjoy the Matthews community vibe. It has its sister pub next door that has a more traditional Irish pub feel. Your open tab will be honored at both spots so you can try both out throughout your visit.
