Such a fun unique restaurant in Matthews, North Carolina. It’s located in downtown Matthews on one of the side streets. Previouslyonly offered small plates, but they changed the menu recently. They do have a nice selection of different types of foods. If you’re a vegetarian, there’s always options to not include the protein. We went a couple weeks ago with friends. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and food. Great place to go with friends or a date night.

Love what Brandon has done with the place. My martini was excelently chilled, and my bartender was professional and personable. The shishito peppers and brussels were incredible. Cant wait to go back.

We had the best meal at The Portrait Gallery last weekend. The service was prompt and friendly, the drinks were amazing, and the food was awesome. I definitely recommend to anyone who wants to try local or a more intimate setting for date night, brunch, or a small plate at the bar.

Lovely little restaurant/hangout. Good food and one of the best margaritas I’ve had. They use fresh juice, not a margarita mix.
I'm an event planner and recently chose the Portrait Gallery for my birthday party. We had 20 women. Brandon and his team went above and beyond! The food was excellent, the service top notch, and the atmosphere was perfect for a celebration.
Love this place! Great food! Fabulous service! Wonderful atmosphere!
Brandon and his team were awesome last night as we celebrated a good friends birthday. Loved the drink special, the appetizers & my salmon was perfectly prepared. A new favorite destination in Matthews ❤️
For my first visit upon walking in the ambience is very warm and comfortable. The artwork is beautifully displayed as lower ceiling panels above the seating areas. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and accommodating and consistent with their unique drink making. The menu choices are of high-quality and full of flavors. Prices were very reasonable as well. I definitely return!! Thank you Brandon, for providing us with a top-notch experience! 😎
Absolutely amazing food service are so sweet

We had the most beautiful and special girls birthday at The Portrait Gallery. Brandon took care of our large party and made our experience comfortable, delicious and memorable. All the areas they have are so uniquely beautiful, the front bar area and the back bar with the outside is perfect for nice weather. Every appetizer and dish was better than expected. Thank you so much!
We came here for our friend’s birthday dinner. Brandon and his staff were attentive, friendly, personable, and made the experience very memorable. The truffle fries were an excellent appetizer, the salmon was perfect, and the drinks were fabulous. Thank you for a wonderful, personalized experience!
A group of seven of us went to The Portrait Gallery Restaurant in downtown Matthews for our prom night dinner, and it couldn’t have been a better experience! Most of us ordered the sirloin steak, and it was cooked medium rare to perfection—tender, flavorful, and just right. The mashed potatoes had a hint of sweetness, which was a little unexpected, but the texture was great and still super tasty. Our server was so kind and attentive, and really helped make our first prom night feel extra special. The atmosphere was cozy and elegant, making it the perfect spot to celebrate. Highly recommend for a night out or any special occasion!
Brandon was excellent! It was our 5 year anniversary and we were told about this place from my wife’s sister. We decided to stop by for drinks and we had an excellent time. Might be the best old fashioned I’ve ever had. My wife got the whiskey sour and loved it. We enjoyed several appetizers and nice conversation. We will be back
My husband and I were really excited to come here for dinner for a Friday date night, however, we were quickly disappointed. We had a 7:30 reservation for the back dining room, and when we arrived they seated us in the bar area, at what appeared to be a community table. We didn't mind at first, and ordered our drinks and the gallery board appetizer. The galley board was delicious but our server waited until we finished it to ask if we needed anything else. I ordered a burger and my husband ordered the Alfredo; after waiting for 40 minutes, our server came and told us they were out of burger meat and only had black bean patties. Not wanting to wait another 30 minutes for food, I ordered the burrata salad and my husband ordered another drink (his had been empty for 15 minutes). Our food came out a few minutes later, and it was clear my husbands food had been sitting out. It was lukewarm and we had to ask our server to reheat it. Our server comped my husbands alfredo, however, that didn’t make up for the experience. While our server was nice, she was incredibly inattentive and we watched her chat with the bartender numerous times as we sat there with empty drinks. Additionally, they sat another couple at our community table, who borderline made out half of the time. We never saw a manager that we could discuss our experience with. We will stick with dining at Sante.
Edit to add: we looked at our receipt the following morning and noticed we were charged for one of the drinks the couple seated next to us had. My husband left a message with the restaurant but never received a return call.
