I normally avoid eating junk food but then pizza at its core is definitely not junky, imho. I was not able to go out to get food the other evening and I thought I’d better order something in since I had nothing at home. I figured I’d get a pie from the local PJ location and I’d keep it simple and affordable. Ordered a x-large NY style crust pie with regular plain cheese. This was already over $20. Then tax, delivery and tip. Now it’s over $30! I hated doing it but clicked the payment button and waited for the pie to come. No issues ordering, no issues with time frame or delivery. The nightmare came with the first unfortunate bite.

I’ve been eating pizza since I’m 2 and now I’m 55, I’ve had amazing pies (lived in NY for 40 years) and many not so great pies, who hasn’t? What I ate that night does not qualify on any level to be considered pizza. No, nothing was wrong with it per se, not burnt or rotten or raw. It was just terrible on every level, including crust texture/flavor, the sauce flavor and the texture and taste of the “cheese”. Dry, lifeless, tasteless, so bad it was hurting my soul, let alone my mouth, tongue and stomach. I couldn’t get through 1 slice, despite how terribly hungry I was.

I threw the rest in the trash and went online to see if I had any possible chance of getting a refund. I saw right away that’s not part of their policy (smart because I’m sure they’d lose millions a year). A replacement, if deemed worthy, was the only offer I saw but obviously this is the last thing I’d want now. I called the location, spoke to the manager and although he tried to make a refund happen, I was told that since I had had it delivered via their dd affiliation and had tipped the driver, they could not offer a refund. I have to call major bs on this since I know they had at least $30 cash in the location at the time. A classic “sorry my hands are tied” lazy excuse. So I called the corporate number and was assured they’d pass a message along to the location. Does this mean I’ll get a refund?I asked.
No, but rest assured we will send the message. What does that mean? I have no clue.

“Better ingredients, better pizza” may just be the biggest lie told in the last 40 years. I mean honestly, I buy $6 frozen pizzas at Walmart that make this typical example seem like it’s not even a food product. Dominos is worlds better and I can barely choke that down when I’ve had to. I can go on and on about all the terrible things I could eat that would be a thousand times better. Horrible ingredients, absolute worst pizza is the only way I’d define Papa John’s now. Ugghhh, I’m still experiencing the worst heartburn the next day 😖

Oh, and for the manager who apparently didn’t know his store had a number, it’s #5082 🙄

Warning: Avoid this place at all costs, this is NOT food!

VERY disappointed. The last 2 times we’ve went there, the food looked and tasted disgusting. We order the same thing almost every time we go there. I usually only place online orders at the Mills River location because it’s easier and faster. When you call, you’re placed on hold forever - enough to piss you off. We always order an original cheese pizza with garlic breadsticks. Last night, we got home with our pizza (thankfully we’re only like 5 minutes if that from the store). It looked pathetic. It looked like a thin crust pizza with sauce. There was barely a thin crust - it was burnt and hardly anything there. The original style pizzas are supposed to come out and tasting like the breadsticks, where you can actually taste a good thick, soft crust. I called and explained to a younger guy what I ordered vs what I got. He said he could make me another pizza or credit me. I said I’d like to come get another one considering this was supposed to be our dinner. I asked if he wanted me to bring back what we got. He said no, keep it. When arriving to pick up our remake pizza, the younger guy opened it up and asked if this was better. The manager (middle aged man with black hair & a black mustache), said check it out because we made it the same way we made the other one. I showed him my pictures of the first one and explained how unacceptable this was. He said, “that one looks fine too. It’s made exactly the same.” Manager guy said: where’s the first one we made? I said: he (pointed to the younger guy) said to just keep it because I offered to bring it back. He looked at him and said next time, tell them to bring the unsatisfied pizza back. I said, there shouldn’t be a “next time.” I asked if they were doing something different or using different dough because I could’ve saved a lot of money by just going to Little Caesar’s.. cause their pizza looks better than this and it’s a lot cheaper! He just looked at me and said, well you got $14 off because of “dough points”… is this one any better? I said is that why you did a crappy job, because I got a discount from ordering so many of your pizzas???” And, this looks slightly better but looks about the same as the first one but at least there’s somewhat of a crust hanging on. He said they have always made pizza this way -> that’s a lie. Papa John’s used to be our favorite pizza place and now we’re wondering if other Papa John’s pizzas are better than the Mills River location or if they all have started making their pizzas crappy.
Their location says they offer delivery but they don’t. I will NOT be wasting my money there again. They’re very unappreciative. Manager guy was very rude. How he talked to me, was unacceptable. The pizza was disgusting. The younger guy should do himself a favor and go work somewhere else.. because bless his heart, he looked so embarrassed. He could be working somewhere, where they teach you how to talk to people politely and this manager guy is a prime example of how NOT to be.

First...importantly, there is no pricing ANYwhere on the overhead board menu OR on the to go menu. The first time I went, the girl who came to the counter took my order, and my money, (she had a bad attitude so this work thing must be inconvenient for her). When I came back to retrieve it, they mysteriously were now out of stock. She was beyond rude. I thought, 'just a bad teenage employee' and foolishly gave them another try. The second time a middle age man came to the counter and he was equally rude. That with the 'no pricing' anywhere was just too uncomfortable so I simply left. I looked on Papa Johns website trying figure out what the pricing would have been and guess what? These clowns are not listed on the Papa Johns locations menu. Hmmm?

Called for delivery and I accept that the local place doesn't answer the phones, I'm routed to a call service. Understood. I ordered their 2 large pizza special for $18 plus an order of breadsticks. The total was $42? When I asked how much the breadsticks were she replied " I already submitted the order so I can't tell you that". When I pushed, she said, the breadsticks are $11.99.Really? $12 for an order of regular breadsticks? The online menu shows $5.99. I politely thanked her for her time and told her that I won't be completing the order. Sorry Pappa Johns, but you get 1 star.

Ethan made for us some incredibly delicious food, and he was extraordinarily friendly. I was truly impressed. Thanks, Ethan.

Vegetarian options: I just customize my orders to be vegetarian which offers a wide variety of fresh veggies.

Service is Terrible. My pizza was horrible. Most of my pizza had so much cheese it was unbearable. Then like 2-3 pieces had no chesse or pepperoni. I called up there and I was very nice and explained what had happened and he said that he made it and there was nothing wrong with it. He said that we should just eat this really messed up pizza when I paid 20-30 dollars for something good. He was very rude and very disrespectful. The manager is the one that made the pizza and “checked” the pizza. The manager is really young and should not be talking to an elder like that. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed.
